Good Schtuff!!! :bigtu: I totally love how this band sounds! :D

I have only heard the DIALOGUE SYMPHONIE single, and can't wait for the full album in march. Has anyone heard anything else from Mana's new band yet? besides the one single? ^^v

No, I haven't, but I have a feeling that I'm really going to like what the band puts out.

Mana is a brilliant artist.

I like MDM's stuff a lot because it's a lot like Malice Mizer's Bara no Seido album. ^^ I can't wait to hear more from them ~

It's gorgeous! Mana really is the most brilliant musician.

I can't WAIT for the album.

Just random tidbit: "Moi dix mois" means "I say to myself" as far as I know. I *think* it does, anyway. Maybe not.

No it does not. XD

"Moi dix mois" falls riiiight in my pet peeve about Jrockers spouting senseless French. It means, "Me ten months". (You Jane? LOL)

What you mentioned would be spelt "Moi, dis moi". And still gramatically incorrect. o_O It would mean something along the line of "Me say to me".

I say to myself = "Je me dis..." and is only a sentense fragment, it's missing a complement d'object direct.

[Edit: I should mention, to those who might not know, I'm French and living in the US due to work. So I am a credible source. ^__^]

Me like J.Rock. Ugh.

Mara

hah! That's interesting, Rosiel, I didn't know that. Yeah, it is rather annoying when you see things in J Rock or elsewhere written in English, French, or anything else, and spelled incorrectly, or just making no sense.

I have yet to hear anything by Moi dix Mois... though a few people have said that it sounds a lot like Bara no Seido, so I have a feeling I will like it VERY much

*EEP!* My mom told me wrong. She hasn't spoken French in years, so....yes. I am a moron, when it comes to French. Forgive me.

AND I post this again:
Hey...does anyone know where to get the Dialogue Symphonie lyrics? I have looked EVERYWHERE. They're probably not out there yet. :P

If anyone has seen them, (romanji OR original Japanese) let me know, k?

Mana and French don't mix, I've noticed. The name of his store is another one that is a bit off. But, if I'm right about the meaning, not AS off as "Moi dix mois" is. To avoid further embarassment due to my ignorance of the French language, I will keep my non-knowledge to myself regarding the name of Mana's store. XD

I remember a friend making me listen to part of a song then asking "what did they say?" And I said that I couldn't believe my Japanese had become /so/ bad I couldn't understand pop music... and she informed me it was French. X__X

Although nothing is as hilarious as Macross Plus lyrics. Took me months of listening before I realized it was badly pronounced bastardized French. LOL.

I always wonder, though, with their millions of dollars in the bank, could they not pay a native speaker of French/English to read over their songs and check that the grammar/meaning is correct? ^__^

(My morbid curiosity got the best of me and I found a few songs with French fragments, and they go from wrong to awkward. Most of them simply sound off, like they were translated from English, keeping the English sentense pattern.)

> The name of his store is another one that is a bit off.

What's the name of Mana's store? I can help. ^__^

actually, MM has always been fairly low budget. they went BANKRUPT after producing Bara no Seido.

and Mana is (says everyone I know who's worked with him) EXTREMELY egotistical and thinks he's right about everything and won't ever listen to corrections. oO;;

:3 Yes, he's a cheap, prissy, crossdressing visual J-Rocker.

I thought that was why we all loved him so? :3

Hehee, actually I'm really glad to hear he's got a new band. I've missed the stylings of his music. Nice to hear his tastes still run the same. (aaah, sometimes it's saddening when an artist breaks away from the group to go solo, and sounds so different, or is all over the spectrum. Sometimes it can be a good thing to have a change in style, but like with Billy Corrigan, I love his stuff :3 As it seems also to be with Mana, it's always got that flavour to it, mmmmmm.)

Ah, French can be annoying anyway. He's just fixing it up a bit, like the Japanese love to edit words that are not theirs. ^_-* He's just trying to appeal to a Japanese person's preceived notion of something French, a romantic kinda twisted myth, and not to be true to an actual French person. It doesn't have to be. Look at all the screwed up english the Japanese love to mutilate. It's practically a sport. Other languages must feel left out.

But good thing he doesn't listen to other people, otherwise he couldn't survive being so unique. (You gotta fight constantly when you're facing such gender and cultural preferences.)

Um, Rosiel can translate for real, being a bit overly qualified, but I think the store name means "My half" - which I always felt made some sense in context of Mana-ness overall (especially since the store's half GL and half EGL.)

As far as his store merchandise goes, it's kinda sad that there isn't any outrageous stuff at all to be found. Pretty, tasteful, still weird enough, but pretty much all either one kind of Lolita or the other. I mean, I love black, but I need a little bit of funky color thrown in for my perky goth quota. For me, I find Na+H and Black Peace Now more appetizing from what I've seen to compare so far. (How many GLB's is that?...ack....)

But I'd still wanna go. A lot. Just the interior architecture alone would be worth it. Hmm. Maybe I could lay off cons for a year and visit Japan instead....

Lilli
02-01-2003, 04:01 AM
._.\/ I would so totally go with you. Hehee! Think I could pick up enough conversational Japanese between now and whenever to get by for a visit? :3

"Lo siento, pero donde es el baño?"
...'gomen nasai?'
Ay dios mio... I listened to the wrong tapes...

Rosiel

> Um, Rosiel can translate for real, being a bit overly qualified, but I think the store name means "My half"

Not exactly. That would be "Ma moitié".
"Moi-même moitié" means "Myself half".

Probably a mistranslation of "my half" actually. ^__^

> He's just fixing it up a bit, like the Japanese love to edit words that are not theirs.

See I think that shows a lack of respect for the language. If he really was fluent and really did love the language, I think he'd make an effort to get it more or less right. X__X

I love German, and when I decided to use German for a livejournal layout a number of months ago, I went to the trouble of asking a German friend of mine to translate everything so it would be correct. ^__^

As a side note, *laughs* that's why I like being catty and pronouncing "Malice Mizer" the English way... I mean the name of the band is closer to the English spelling than the French!

]=)~

Now that the name "Malice Mizer" has been brought up, I must digress! lol I have never, ever met someone who pronounces the words Malice Mizer the same way I do. I pronounce "Mizer" just like you would in the word "Miserable" and I'm convinced that's how they want it pronounced in English. Everyone else I've met says it "Maizer", as in old people who horde money, lol! If you look at the katakana, they spell it MARISU MIZERU. And they say that the band name means Malicious Misery. So why do people pronounce it, in English, the other way? If they wanted it said like "Maizer", the katakana would be MARISU MAIZARU.

I'm not trying to sound mean with this, I just want SOMEONE to tell me I'm right, because every American fan I've met calls them Malice Maizer, and that drives me nuts! :P

Rosiel
02-01-2003, 11:48 AM
> MARISU MIZERU

"mizeru" is not "misery", that would be "mizeri-". ^__^
As for "marisu" it's not "malicious"... which would be something more like... "marishusu".
It sounds more like the French "misère" to me (which would actually me "mize-ru" with a long 'e'), which is a good possibility due to what I see as Mana being unable to use a dictionary.

But then I never saw it in katakana, only written in roman letters... speaking of which...

The way they spell it, though, "mizer" is closer to the English "miser" (maizer) then the French "misère" ("miz air" air pronounced as in, the air you breathe.)... hence I pronounce it like the word it looks like the most.

> So why do people pronounce it, in English, the other way?

In my case because I am being pigheaded. Oink.

soshi
02-01-2003, 01:52 PM
"Malice Mizer" is meant to be a play off of "Humanity is full of malice, and humans are miserable" (because Mana is angsty, or something). I think it was probably originally "Malice Miser", but having the z in there looks cooler, or something. oO; they pronounce it "Malice Meezah" in their most coherent stages, and "Marisu Meezaru" in their least.

I know, I'm always intimidated to pronounce anything before the other person does when we are having a j-rock conversation. (There's so few people to have such conversations with, you don't want to put them off. ^_-*) Basically, I'll just go with however they say it, so I'm flexible. Sometimes I ask before we even start up talking.

Yea, Lilli. Come to Japan with me and you can be the tour guide. Who else could we sign up? Hehe. And then we can go street cosplay and be in Fruits. >^_^<

Whoa, I totally missed that little comment before, sorry...wow, I find that incredibly amusing. Heh...stuck in Africa with your limited Spanish and mutilated French and engrish-y Japanese. I wonder how far we'd get.

::gets eaten by lions within ten minutes of arrival::

It would be actually quite an adventure to go around the world and j-rock cosplay. It'd be like a crusade....without the killing or torture or trying to convert people. Or finding some silly cup. Yea, but otherwise, what a great mission. Confuse as many cultures as possible.
