View Full Version : So, who else is getting .hack for the PS2?

I pre-ordered the .hack game for the PS2 due out around Febuary 14 here in the states.... who else is getting it?
For those who don't know the 1st PS2 game takes place after the 1st TV series. I loved the TV series and can't wait to play the game to re-visit, "The World".
The series is not for everyone. It's pretty much a love it or hate it series with little middle ground.
The game tries really hard to simulate the Online RPG experaince where you can trade with people roaming around, it has e-mail and I'm pretty sure a BBS where there are posts relevent to the story.
The one drawback is that the battle are real time (which is good) however the spell menu pauses the battles as there are no shortcut spell commands.
You can have preset battle commands that I think you program which is handy.
Oh, and get this... the game dialog can be played in either Japanese or English!
However, the game is only about 20 hours long.
I'm pumped about this game.
EDIT: Anyone know what chharacter class Kite is?

I don't think I'm going to buy it, but I'm interested in taking a look at it. The whole game-within-a-game concept is... well, really weird, but intriguing. As I'm not a fan of online RPGs, I'm not sure if it will really be the game for me. I've also never seen the show, so I don't know how friendly they are going to make it for newbies (yeah, I know about the pack-in anime CD, but still! I'm more interested in how the game itself turns out).

I preordered it last year... not because I think I'm going to like it (MMORGs aren't my thing and I don't know if a fake one will be any better than the real thing) but because I am desperate for a RPG.
It's that twitchy "I need a RPG not today but /yesterday/!" feeling that got me to buy -and play to the end- one of the worst RPGs ever... and the first one on the PS1... Beyond the Beyond.

Nooooo, Rosiel.... not Beyond the Beyond!! If you are that desperate for an RPG, I can suggest some. But, eek, BtB is really bad. I can't imagine you having a good time with it. ^^

It was terrible. I still have nightmares about the sand castle with the million of hidden sandpits. But I did finish it, and I did turn the black knight back to good. His cursed armor was the greatest thing since sliced bread.
But, yes, the game was horrible. It WAS the only RPG out on the PS1 at the time, though, so I trudged on valliantly. O_O
I'm currently considering replaying Chrono Cross to keep me entertained. It was easy, and since my memory card got wiped clean, I need to go get my two Einlanzers back. ^^

^_^ I didn't know .hack was going to be on the PS2 at all, so thanks for reporting it. :D I probably will end up buying it sometime, because I've heard lots of people like it, and I'd like to try it out for myself. ^_^

What is the included anime disc? I really want to play the game, but I want to see the anime series first. Finding the time to do all this is going to be a pain with working, Katsucon, LARPing, and getting in my nightly DDR session. I need a good stay at home two week vacation bad.

I just saw a bunch of things on that game that says, play me.
It looks cool.
Part 1 of 4, and so you know its gonna finish no matter what.
Included JAPANESE DIALOGUE AND ENGLISH SUB option.(haven't this been what the fans wanted all along)
and and and the starting story line is intriguing.

Wait, .hack comes out in February not March? -_-; Either way I planned to buy it and put it away in a closet since GGXX comes out beginning of Feb, Katsu is middle, Xenosaga is end, ZoE 2nd Runner is Mid-March, and I still need to finish Skies of Arcadia and play Suikoden II (I'm bad).
Are there any promo deals for it? If not I may just buy it at a later date...

Can anyone predict if .hack volume 1 will be discontinued within three months of release? If not, I'll prolly take my time buying it. :p

Yes, you can get a $5 rebate for pre-ordering it. Also, you get a mini-guide (though, I think the mini-guide is less than impressive). You have to pre-order it by February 11th.
I guess I'd be more interested if this game was longer... I don't want to pay $50 for something I can beat in the short amount of time this game is rumored to take.
Oh god do I want it... unfortunately, all my game buying is on hold ._.

Hee hee.. reserved it today and played the demo disc n___n
It's great! It's really great!
And for whomever asked, the included DVD is the OAV 'Liminality', which shows what happens in the Real World during the events of the game.
And the game is actually around 30 hours if you don't try to rush through it. The fun of most things is running around in the different root towns, talking to people, and exploring as much as you can.
It's really a lot of fun! O_O;; I'd play more, but there's no save option on the demo disc and I need to get to work on my schoolwork, so I had to stop n.n;
(I'm letting someone else use the TV, he's playin SoA:L n____n)
So, yeah, I'm getting it for PS2, apparently.. I don't even have a PS2.. nor can I afford the game, I just did the little $5 thing and now I have to buy it x____________X;; whoops n.n; I was gonna play the english version anyway, but... I wasn't gonna buy it for myself ^o^;
