I am in serious planning of a gundam costume unlike most others, and now, I am curious as to how to mold it. I want to make it out of Resin. Yes it will be heavy, but It will be much more proportionate than using other materials I think. Does anyone know any techniques that could help in creation of this costume?

If that's what you mean, the only way that I know would be to use Varaform... (it's like vacuform only no need for a machine) but it's kind of expensive, and you'd have to be able to scuplt...

Yea, It would be one of the Mobile Suits, Either God Gundam or Wing Zero Custom. What is this Varaform? and how do i get a hold of it?

well.. a little bit of the softer side.. you can always try foam with hot glue in between plastic sheets.. but it think innovation is ur kind of thing..

Yea, I don't want to do it like ever other gundam i've seen cosplayed, everything I do must fit to my form. So that it looks like a proportionate Mobile suit and not an SD replica, Not saying that the others done before me are bad, just I want to try a different method

If by resin you mean to use polyester/epoxy resins with fiberglass, I could probably give you some advice on building that style of mobile suit, although resin/fiberglass are a lot of work and don't really mean that the costume will look more proportionate than one made with other materials.
The most important part of building a proportionate mobile suit is having a good design which keeps the mecha's proportions as closely as possible while still allowing you to move your joints properly. Gundams have long legs, small heads, and wide-set shoulders, so when cosplayed they often tend to look SD because of our comparatively short human legs, narrow torsos and big heads.
The best start would be to draw an accurate front-view blueprint of the mecha to be cosplayed, and superimpose on it an accurate diagram of your own body - scale it so that your arms are just outside the torso of the gundam. Torso width will always be your limiting factor for scale, because although you can walk on platforms, and you can have your head partially inside the torso, you can never get your shoulders to be any farther apart.
How far along are you in your planning stage?

Honestly, I've been studying my God Gundam sketches from my model kit. I think despite the different shapes that the mobile suits have, the Mobile Fighters are the closest to human proportions. If Resin is not preferred, is there any other material that would give the same texture? or should I use paint to simulate those textures?

What do you mean by texture? I'm not familiar with the God Gundam, so you might have to post a link.
Resin is a good medium, I didn't mean to sound discouraging from that aspect. Since you would be painting the costume anyway though, any material that had enough rigidity to maintain the desired shape would probably suit your needs. Some other people make vacuform parts from plastic, or cover polyethylene foam with vinyl, and both of these methods can be done to great success. I just like fiberglass because it's durable and is infinately workable. It does require a commitment of money (100s of $$), time (100s of hours), tools (sanders, dremil tools) and space though, and is not something to be done in the house (due to toxic vapors when casting and harmful dust when sanded).

That is sooo true. You can use every optical illusion in the book, but there's only so much you can do. And when you try to scale the costume up to accomodate your torso/shoulder ratio, it gets out of hand real quick.
simulate those textures?
I don't watch much (any) Gundam, but it was my impression that they all had zero texture, i.e. smooth finished metal. Operating under that assumption, I would've recommended polystyrene or pvc for the Gundam since they both produce very smooth surfaces, whereas both fiberglass and wonderflex require extensive sanding and finishing.
Also, you mention that you're not worried about weight, but what's your practical limit? One of my suits topped out at 50 lbs; I could imagine wearing an 80-90 lb suit if it was well-balanced, but weight of your materials is something you have to keep in mind. Especially with Gundams, they've always got crazy big wings or shields or shoulder-mounted rocket launchers . . . crazy stuff.
Also, I'm kind of curious as to what's driving you to use atypical materials. Most people use certain kinds of materials and certain methods because they work and are inexpensive. I'm just wondering if you've got money to throw at the costume or a platoon of assistants at your beck and call.

This is my dream costume, this is the one costume I'm willing to spend hundreds on, and yes, by texture i did mean that smooth metal texture. The costume itself I don't want to weigh more than typical military armor & equip (50-70 lbs)but Resin's lighter than I would imagine, so I hope that it wouldn't weigh that much. I really want this to be something I can wear at a con, and maybe use the helmet for more than just that

Only difference is that its going to be like those cutsey gundam pics where instead of bulky armor on the forearms and thighs, i'll wear white spandex or something... which keeps mobility up

Good luck on that Gundam suit!! Anything from Gundam roxorz! Can't wait to see it when it's finished!
