View Full Version : Videos of Cosplay Idol

Hey everyone,

This weekend at DTac, my friends and I were approached and talked with a woman from OMNI television.

Apparently the station is doing a documentary on Cosplay and conventions as well as the masquerade.

They are also going to be taping this year's Cosplay Idol at March TAC. The woman who spoke to us emailed us as well. She and the station are looking for videos of previous Cosplay Idols so that they can get an idea of what to expect.

I know I taped the first one for a friend, but I've lost their contact info.

If anyone has a video of the Cosplay Idols and would be willing to share it with OMNI could you PM me your contact info so I could send it to Kyoko (the OMNI contact I have).

Thanks guys

Did you try looking on cosplaymemories.com (it's a long shot but AN's masq. is on it)

I believe I have the last 2 years worth taped. But I don't think the quality is very good. (Heads in the way for most).

well i'm sure it will be better than nothing for her, at least it will give her an idea of what to expect. If i can give her your contact info you could tell her what you've got and she could decide. (want your permission to before i do...)

i don't mean to be a party pooper or anything, but i was in cosplay idol and i reaaly don't want my face to be posted on public TV.

well i can almost positively assure you that the last 2 cosplay idols will not be shown on tv as they were taped by other people.

it's this year that will be taped by a camera crew from the station.

she just wants the videos to get an idea of what to expect, i'm hoping to convince her that the masq of anime north, toronto trek or even cn anime would be better than cosplay idol.

when she replies back i'll make sure to mention that these other videos have people that would rather not be on tv.

Well, if anyone can post a link to a video of it, I'd SO LOVE to see it!
I'm still trying to decide if I want to participate in it or not in 2006.

I feel a little dissapointed knowing this documentary will include Cosplay Idol. Of all the cosplay competitons throughout the year to choose to film, they chose the worst one. I know people will hate me for saying it, but if they want to see a real competiton they should come to Anime North or CN. Those are real competitons.

I totally agree, but from the sounds of it, she was at D-Tac and talked to the people running it and they really promoted Cosplay Idol.

I'm really hoping to get her to realize that actual Masquerades are infinitely better

Do you have any contact info for the people in charge? Not to start a publicity war or anything, but we should really pass this on to people on the Anime North Exec, or even Dawn, since they could actually show them videos of what a REAL masq looks like, and then compare them to Cosplay Idol and let them take their pick. :: shakes head :: Yeah, Hobbystar would want more publicity for their tiny events, wouldn't they. But I'm surprised that they hyped their pretend-masq over their real one in September. Probably has something to do with time frames ...

I believe she is going to AN, and possibly Ad Astra as it was mentioned to her. I think she's just doing her research right now, and will be filming at more than one convention (mostly because I don't think you can make an entire documentary or whatever out of a little cosplay idol contest.) ^^;

So, from the sounds of it (as in, the impression that I got from her), she's not limiting her filming to MTAC. I think we made it fairly clear while talking to her that the TAC "cosplay idol" contests weren't the same as a full masquerade at one of the larger cons. We mentioned the ICG and how that works as well, so I'm assuming she's not just going to ignore a bigger, well planned masquerade just to go film some english VA commentary in a small room.

...and I probably worded that all wrong. Basically, we talked with her for quite a while about costuming, ICG, masquerades, and various conventions. I'm most definitely not the most knowledgeable person to be talking to TV-people, but I did try. ^^

EDIT: Because someone mentioned concerns earlier: I think she's just looking for MTAC's cosplay idol video for research purposes, to know what sort of setup to expect for next March? She would have to get permission from the person who filmed it to use it, and I think it's probably easier to make a documentary using footage from conventions you've actually attended, right? (for those that were concerned with showing up on TV).

EDIT2: I also mentioned (in my email to her) that she should contact AN's masquerade staff as they know far more than I do, and are probably more capable of giving her accurate information (as I live under a rock most of the time). I gave her a few links to Ad Astra, Anime North and Toronto Trek's websites.
