Hi...Im new at this and I was wondering what the biggest Canadian con was? I want to pick a really good one in the Toronto area to attend as my first con sometime next year and I was wondering which was most popular?

Anime North for strictly anime runs about 10,000 people: www.animenorth.com ... Usually runs last weekend in May. For 2006, it's May 26 - 28.
Otherwise, locally, there's CNExpo (apparently now called FanExpo) which is Anime, Sci Fi, Horror, Gaming, and whatnot. It's about 30,000 people but anime tends to get majorly shunned I find. It runs at the end of August/Beginning of September. For 2006, it's September 1st - 3rd. http://www.hobbystar.com/hobbystar/Conventions.html The website isn't really helpful.
Definately take Anime North over CNExpo without question. Hope you can make it!

Just a note: Hobbystar and other pro events measure their attendance by a different method than fan cons like AN. Their 30,000 is a combination of days X #of people X types of tickets etc. with most of their sales being for SFX (the guest lineup, obviously and the special tickets for guest speeches)
AN had almost 10,000 individuals buy tickets, if we counted attendance like a pro con, we'd be in the 25-30,000 range too.

Iczer, at the 2002 wrapup, I did the quick math once the final numbers were given to us. If we had counted that way for that year, then we would have been 9 shy of 10K.
But here's another telling guidepost. For the past few years I've been keeping an eye on AN's attendance year over year in relation to Anime Expo's year over year attendance. If you were to compare the first nine years of AN to the first nine years of AX, AN had higher numbers in years 6, 7 and 8. (I think we were just about a couple hundred shy in year 9 - I can't find the page with the numbers at the moment. :bigcry: )
Trust me, if I were the competition, I'd be more then a little scared. :)
