I've noticed in regards to crossplay that girls like dressing guys up like girls. Theres almost a gulity pleasure associated with it. Ive always wonderd why that is. Can anyone shed some light on that.:)

An ex of mine used to basically get off on dressing me up... not just dressing me but putting lip gloss on me and glitter and eye shadow...

a little embarassing yes, but the nail painting stuck with me for a while... all I know, was she liked doing it so I was all for it, long as she kissed the lip gloss right off me :)

Girls are weird. End of story.

lol. Uh, I've never dressed up a guy like a girl . . . oO Or my pets or anything, unless you count that one Halloween I made my dog a gypsy (she looked so cute in that babushka!). But, I think that if another girl asked for the same treatment, many girls would be just as happy to oblige. Even people who didn't like me back in elementary school used to bug me to let them braid my hair (it used to be really long) . . . hmm.

Okay, I'm really not sure what the deal is. Let's just pretend I've made a long speech about grooming behaviors as the core of primate social interactions and leave my opinion at that, lol.

I know a guy that at every party this group of people has, he gets stuffed (usually with much protesting) into something girly. I, personally, don't see what the appeal is. guys are guys, girls are girls. if a guy wants to dress as a girl, go for it. it not.. then.. don't. ^^;

these girls i know (friends of mine) are always eager to get a guy in a dress and, put make up on em too. they foudn a guy at ohayocon to do it to *Shrugs* the were commentin on how he had to roll his boxxers up to make sure they didnt show (was a short skit). i may have to ask them why it is so appealing...

I admit I have tried to get a couple of guys into female costumes - succeeded once and got a pic to giggle over to prove it(wouldn't wear the gogo boots, though). Course, I try to get them into male costume too. Some of them have no interest in female costume, others more interested in female then male - be it the challenge to try looking female or they want to see what reaction they get. I just like sharing my costuming hobby with friends and hopefully get them to try it out, and I've got more female costumes then male.

My boyfriend is so up for crossplaying and I'm so excited to make his costumes! I don't know why, but it's just fun! He wouldn't let me put makeup on him or do his nails otherwise. =P It's fun making him purty. ^^; I really can't explain why I love the idea... I donno. Now, if he were to wear women's clothes all the time, it'd just be odd. O_o;;

I know (for me) that it's cute when a guy dresses up as a girl because...it's like they're exposing a silly, feminine part of themselves. I mean, my guy friends have this macho thing going on most of the time, so when I can get them (lol yeah right, more like ONE of them) to crossplay & act all goofy, it's cute.
Ahh...I guess that doesn't make sense. o_0;

No no, it makes sense! There's just something.. appealing about a guy who can show off his feminine side without blanching at the concept. ^^ And the same goes for girls who aren't afraid to show a little masculinity now and then. XP
I dunno, when a guy's all like, "ew, makeup and nail polish? That's for GIRLS!" .... I'm a little insulted, cuz, y'know.. I am one. *l* There's nothing wrong with liking pretty sparkly stuff. ;_; And any guy who does is simply fabulous, in my opinion. ;)

My boyfriend offered to crossplay anthy.. O.o;; I told him I really wanted to do Utena and then he's like "well, maybe I could do Touga and match for a day." I expressed that I felt Utena and Anthy were suppose to be together and he's like, "K, I'll do Anthy..." Heh... He's, like, 5 inches taller than me and definatly not suited to be Anthy. lol
Well, that's just the situation with my guy crossplaying.

That can be tough for some guys to do. There is so much pressure on guys to be all masculine and macho that dressing up like a girl might be seen as a weakness.

There's just something.. appealing about a guy who can show off his feminine side without blanching at the concept. ^^ And the same goes for girls who aren't afraid to show a little masculinity now and then. Yeah, pretty sparkly stuff is cool. I have my room plastered with cute happy bright shiny posters of smiling anime characters. I can only stand so much macho guy stuff on my walls, even though I am a guy.

Pendrell
02-15-2003, 01:21 AM
... it seems that guys get a good bit of flak for appreciating sparkly stuff (YEAH MIROKU! XD). Apparently anything that falls into the realm of femininity is like poison to a guy's machismo. XP Nrgh. We're all entitled to a little indulgence when it comes to sparkly stuff.
I mean, it's relatively uncommon to find a guy who appreciates the art of appearance enhancement to the fullest, and that's quite unfortunate... I often find that guys who take the time to do a little experimentin' with mascara and eyeliner and other subtle appearance enhancers end up looking just that much better for their efforts.
When I see a member of the male populace wearing jewelry and a tinge of makeup, that's rare indeed, so that will definitely earn a lingering gaze from me. Boy + nail polish + eyeliner = pretty. And SEXY. So there.^^;

My boyfriend hasn't really crossplayed yet (well I stuck him in a skirt for AWA but it wasn't a specific costume..) but he's worn dresses to raves and such. His reason for doing it is..
Attention. And so he can make fun of his guy friends after they hit on him ;)

I think it's some kind of fetish.

And I HAVE IT!!! XD

That's one of my slightly weird ones. *refrains from posting weirder ones*

I don't know WHY I like it, but I do. I think everybody should crossdress at least once in their life! I'm still trying to convince my fiance to do it....he probably won't make a pretty girl, but you never know until you try, do you?

Haha. Guys who aren't afriad of a little bit of that are the ones who are truly secure with their masculinity. If I wasn't secure in my masculinity, there's no way I could handle having a Hello Kitty shower curtain.

Or at least that's what I tell people. XD

lol.. I'm reminded of the time before I moved, when I was snowed out of my house because of bad country roads and lots of snow and ice, and I ended up at a friend of mine's house. Funny thing is, the youngest daughter, with whom I was also good friends with, was having a sleep over ^^; We played games and such.. sleep overs are really fun =3 But at one point, someone had the bright idea of giving me a make over ^^; Heck, I didn't care.. I thought it was pretty fun and funny. So I sat there for a while as they put make up on me. My eyes fluttered like crazy when they tried to put mascara and eye liner on me, they were giggling and squealing as more and more makeup went on. I had no idea what I looked like.. I was kinda dreading what they had done ^^;;

After the make up, they changed the original plan of just a make over to also dressing me up. My friend was trying to put me in her old prom dresses.. I'd seen those dresses, eew =P I ended up in a dress from the youngest daughter. When I came out of the bathroom everyone, including myself, thought it was really amazing that I fit into a dress from a tiny 14 year old girl ^^;; The comments were that I looked a lot like a girl... I just needed a wig ^^;;

Now I see why girls have so many sleep overs ^^ They're fun =3

I think it has something to do with this desier to make them "one of the girls" That and in some cases it doesn't happen often.

-=Thinks a moment=- Then there are guys like my one friend who will begrudgingly get into women's cloathing but you can tell he's eating up the attention. (Then again he also does nasty things with inanimate objects. . . like trash cans)

I guess it all comes down to weather they are comfortable in their own skin. And with girls I think it's a sort of revenge for not really being able to wear those comfy pants that have nice cotton material. ^^

My brothers Youth Group once talked him into cross-dressing, along with five other guys. The point of that was to get the most serious men they had there, dress them up, and have a beauty pagent... he lost ^^;

Every once in awhile I see a guy who looks good in drag, and it's just amusing. It's like when my friends and I are making movies- at least one of us has to cross-dress, as we have one guy who's willing to help us, and he lives halfway across the country. But it's fun watching me and my female friends dressing up and acting like guys, especially when we do a good job of it. Like the infamous 'Alcafone' sketch...

I always think its kewl to watch anybody dress up. Be they girls or guys, and express their creative side. As for me, I gave up on myself a long time ago.

I am alergic to metals, detergents, hot water, make-up, eye shadow makes my eyes water, etc.

I think its personally insane why anyone would actually WANT to wear high-heels. The insane torture devices that they are.

I dispise short skirts. Why would I want to cross my legs all the time?

Bra's are evil.

So if any guy actually WANTS to wear those things, more power to him.

Merle-kun
02-28-2003, 12:52 PM
I dread high heels myself. The ones I have now are far too pointy for my feet so my toes get squished down into it as I walk through out the day. I've just taken the pain in the past, but the last con I needed to wear them again as Mizuho, thankfully since I was running cosplay I got to sit down most of the day and take applications. But when I was up and about, I only wore them across the cold tile ^^;;

Hmm.. I think girls' clothes are more comfortable than guys'. But that may be my dislike of jeans talking. Whoever had the idea of strapping stiff material to their legs... was a baka. ^^;; Not very comfortable.. but, guys don't have many options in their clothes in general. If I go to my closet I only have to pick a shirt and pants.. every day.. very boring ^^;

Hmm.. I dunno if it is a fetist or a admiration.. But if a guy is very secure in his masculanity to dress up then go for it.. Some guys that crossplay do a damn good job..

I personally just cosplay to whatever character I like rather it be a guy or girl.

Oh Merle-kun.. My sis and I met you at Katsu.. I love your costumes.. (we were the steel angel gals).

Merle-kun is one of the best crossplayers out there. X_X

I think all the guys who dress as girls (not just to conventions, but anywhere) are great. Not all of them make convincing girls, true.

But you know...in this society, it's not as accepted as I wish it was. And y'all rock.

Waai! Thank you very much Tsuki!

Speaking of, I just seen a commercial for a fun show on A&E this Sunday at 9pm EST. It's called Role Reversal. And in order to understand women, guys are getting dressed up AS women. It had some interesting looking previews.. some guy was getting a waxing and screaming like crazy ^^;; Makes me fear wax more.. I'll never be brave enough to try it at this rate...

TsukiGuujin
02-28-2003, 11:51 PM
Oh, Merle-kun! Waxing isn't THAT horrific. It's not fun and giggles, either.

I think you should try it. XD

T_T waxing is painful... so painful... omg it's satanic. (the last time I waxed, it left a bruise. That shall forever REMAIN as the LAST TIME I wax. ^^;; Ever. )

Hehee, Soshi :3 If the boy you speak of is who I think it is, his being stuffed into girl costumes at every event is because... they can. Hehee, after all, "I'll try anything once." '...but what if..' "I said. I'll try ANYTHING once." ^^;; Hehee!! He's just so good natured :3 Mreh, he's such a guy though, he's secure enough to let us get away with it. And tolerate all the comments about kitty litter :3 Also he's pretty! Add it all up, and watch the ruffles and sparkles fly :3 I think with him the lure is morbid curiosity, and "...why is he letting us do this?"

^^; I have a friend who wants me to put him into drag at ACen. It's going to happen wether I help or not, so I'll help to make sure he looks good :3 (I think we may have to shave his legs though.) He enjoys it as a hobby, but I'm not any kind of psychologist, so I won't even try to think why ^^; But yes!! It's fun finding a guy who can appreciate ruffles, fluffles, sparklies and bows! Pretty pretty bows and lace and poofy skirts, fuzzy pink things, yay! XD XD

Then again, it brings the world back into a normal perspective when your boyfriend takes a glance at what you're cooing over, makes a face and a comment about your weird hobbies, and goes off to play a video game. ^^;

Personally, I have a thing against Crossplay/Cross-dressing. There's some sort of sick thing that goes on in girls' minds. I'm not sure what it is....I would kinda like to know myself...Girls I know have tried to dress me up in stuff like that and THAT is something to run from....They've also tried to get me into guys clothing that isnt my style either(WAAAAY too tight) anyways...they DO get some sort of guilty glee...What is with that?????

Karisu-sama

"Sick"? The concept of crossplay may be amusing perhaps, but "sick"? Perhaps the girls you mention just think you would look appealing to them in tight clothes etc. If someone tries to make you do something which you have made clear you do not like, that's being disrespectful and mean, not "sick".

Amarant, if you don't like crossplay, don't do it. My husband doesn't want to crossplay, so he doesn't do it - big deal. (And I respect him, I don't try to talk him into it!) Some of us (especially those with a theatrical / acting nature) find crossplay at cons fun, and most crossplayers that I know of do not crossdress IRL. Some crossplayers out there may also crossdress IRL - again, big deal. No one here is making YOU do it, and they are not a threat to YOU.

I agree with Karisu-sama... if you don't like it don't do it. I happen to think it would be fun but my family would kill me because they are simi-strict catholics (my mom was a franciscan(sp?) nun).

Besides... back in shakspeare;'s time women were not allowed to act in plays... so men played the women's parts. puts a new twist in Romeo and Juliette, right? Coss-play/cross-play is no differant than getting ready to go on stage.

From,
Joe

You know, maybe we think YOU'RE sick because of your opinion. This is really mean, and I'll thank you to let us do our thing without being a dickhead in the future.

Karisu-sama, you make a good point. I wonder why Amarant even bothered posting on this thread, other than to irritate us. If that's why, I *AM* a little irritated. >.>

Joe, that actually tickles me. I think it's messed up that women couldn't play men's parts, but...GAHAHAH! Men had to kiss other men. I just...get a big kick out of that.

Maybe I really am sick.

nice one karisu-sama...

to my opinion

crossplaying is not as shallow as one thinks. people dont do it to look stupid. I bet there is a positive reason why we do it, but not all who do it are gay. certainly not for attention either. What matters is that we carry the character and carry it with respect

Crossplaying has never crossed my mind as being ANYTHING of an issue. Whether it be a male or female character, it's dressing up. If you're male, dressing up and acting like a female character doesn't make you a girl, just like females cosplaying a male character DOESN'T make them a guy either. I used to think it was odd that guys crossplayed but then I realized that I was putting a double standard on crossplaying since I've crossplayed before. Now, I have absolutely no problem with it. Like a lot of you guys have said, if a guy is really comfortable with his masculinity, then crossplaying shouldn't be an issue with them because they're not worried that it would make them any less 'manly'. Regardless, crossplaying is not everyone's cup of tea, and that's okay, too. Just don't harp on the people who enjoy it.

Well, I have yet to crossplay, but once my girlfriend decided that after she does her nails she'd do mine... I said ok. Later we went to the mall and I had forgot about my toe nails... One set bright lime metalic green and the other set a deep blue metal flake... Normally I wear shoes, but since it was hot; I wore flip-flops. hehe This one big guy for some reason got offended when I was chillin in the eatery while my girlfriend was in the ladies room and he's like,"Hey toe-polish pansy! Why dontcha trot your ass right outta here before something happens!" After I realized he was talking to me I stood up (to his chest) and said while grinning,"You mean like; how this "toe-polish wearing pansy" is about to show everyone here what a black-belt in Tae Kwon Do is?" His smile ran right off of his face! Nothing happened... He just turned around and mumbled something as he went around the corner! Oh well, maybe next time everyone will get a show of some blue haired anime chick opening a 32oz can of whoopazz on some unruly dude! hehe

Wellsies- alcohol can make people do funny things, but at other times... guys/girls just like crossplaying. Two of my friends insist on dressing up like guys. And then one time at a new years party my friends and I held this guy down(well... I did) and we put make-up on him and a hat.. and stuff. It's just funny, is all. And if guys have really pretty, femanine feature and are up to be wearing clothes and wigs, it's really fun to help them make the outfits, and help them dress-up like their favorite girl charas. .. I really don't know, actually. Girls just find it to be cute when boys allow them to play with them, and such.. like people who are into plushies... they just do. ^_^

"Don't ask, just accept."

It seems like one of the reasons that girls like dressing up guys could be that they want to see them in a more feminine way. By that I dont mean that they want to see them dressed up as a girl, as much as they want to see them in a more sensitive and caring way. And it might be that the only way they can get that is by putting a dress on them. Does that sound right? Or am I way off here?

*shrug* while reading the thread, I thought about all the things I might say... and the pretty much all got said. I'll admit, guys in women's clothes somehow gets to me. It's pretty hot =/ I dunno if it's the role reversal or just the weirdness, but I think it's pretty cool. I do alot of stage makeup and slightly odder stuff for photography and stuff... and it's a blast. It's like seeing how gorgeous you can make someone look... just like drawing and art. A whole different sort of canvas, if you want to go that far :D

I think it's great fun, but I'm not into the whole gayness thing, so I'll just enjoy my straight men in skirts thank you. :)

I am a girl crossplaying as Vash this year. I don't get pleasure from it or anything. It's sorta just a way to be something that you cannot usually be. There's nothing wrong with it...I don't think. I do admire any guy who will show theirselves in a dress in public. The girls do not get as much harassment over crossplaying as the guys do. That's not fair.

hm I just skimmed the first two pages and jumped on the thread...

Crossplay...or rather, when a man takes on a role (dressing up as or acting like) a female...well, for me I guess it's something of a fetish. Even being dominant, if he takes a female role, I get to play the male's part. I get to be even more dominant. There's something hot about that. Heh. -.-;; But this isn't a fetish thread so I'll stop it RIGHT here...

I have also noticed that some girls liked crossdressing guys or guys in make-up and stuff like that. Looks like there are far more girls thinking likewise than I even thought.

Okay then, I won't stay in the shadows and I will say it clearly: I also happen to be a beginner crossdresser... I do it to see how well I can play this "role" as "someone else". I tried to keep it away from my family for 12 years and they still don't even know I crossdress. However, since I still live by my parents, my options are very limited. Moreover, in order to be as convincing as possible, I have become obsessed with my hair... I don't like razor blades so I do my chin with a pair of tweezers... I even try to speak with a less deeper voice than usual. Don't worry, I don't intend to undergo costly and irreversible operations, I'm happy as I am... now if anyone could help in removing that hair out of my limbs?

Another fact: some people in this forum even told me that, as a "French bishie" (sic!) I would look great with eyeliner... without even knowing that I was also into crossdressing! Should I take it as a compliment?

I don't even know if I should do a crossplay... Maybe... if I move away from my family...

(Merle-kun, your piccies are amazing!)

This is an interesting thread!
Personally, I just like dressing *anyone* up, in anything. I think it's great fun.
I don't see the particular appeal of dressing a guy as a girl... I had a friend who loved to put make-up on her male friends and when I asked her why, she said it's just fun. *shrugs* I think make-up is of the devil.... scary stuff....
Merle-kun, do Karen! I've seen most of your costumes (thanx to nekobox), I think that'd look great. I plan on doing the Nataku from the companion blue poster. You ought to check out this site:

But so true.. girls are weird ^_^

Thanks DHB! I'm glad you like my pictures ^-^ I try hard to be convincing =3 I was lucky enough to have an understanding family. My mom helped me start out and was nice enough to buy me some of the stuff I was too embarassed to get back then ^^;;

Hitori: I'm thinking about it... when I first seen that picture, she was the one I liked. I'm a sucker for curly hair ^^; I haven't seen X though, so it makes me wonder if I should spend the money on a costume, from a series, that I've never seen. And thanks for the link btw!

Heh... Merle-kun, you do remind me of Dustin Hoffmann in "Tootsie"! I thought people like you and me were hard to find, I was def'tly wrong... You're lucky to have such an helpful mother.

Anyway, I even have a couple of pics of myself dressed in a... different way. Thanks to my DG cam and to a long period of time spent without my family. Anyone wants to see? I can't post the links right now, I have forgotten where I put them...

Besides, I have to admit girlie clothing tends to be more comfortable sometimes. Why can't I get the chance to meet someone like me in my country, I wonder... surely because of fear. The fear of being judged by people... I still remember that feeling of being thought of as a fool on the times I got to buy lipstick, as I was trying to hide it under several other items until I reach the check-out... If only I had someone to go shopping with me...

But anyway, no one has ever wanted to dress me into anything before, I just had this idea by myself... but if any of you girls want to experiment with me... :D
