Alright, now that Otakon is done and it'll be over 300 days until Otakon 2003, lets take the countdown show on the road. This time we're going to Anime Expo New York being held Labor Day weekend.

So who will be going this Convention?

I may be there, NY isn't that far away from my school. All depends on my money situation and if I can get someone with a car to drive me.

"Poo" 21 and I still don't have a car :(

Yeah, I think I'll try to make it. Probably just gonna do Saturday, like I did for Otakon. Specially since my first day of college is Sept 3...

I'm SO there. Yoko Kanno and Shinichiro Watanabe (I've met Kawamoto-san already ^^)? You better believe I'm making the trip. Besides I'm now in the karaoke contest, lol. I'll be there all three days and I think I'm going to have two new costumes for it even. If anybody wants to do the masquerade . . . ^^

I'll be there! First time in new York, and the weekend of my birthday. Woo. Hopefully I'll have fun and not get mugged! Bwhaha! ^_^ Did anyone go to the BAAF last year? What was it like? I wonde what this one will be like. Hmmm.

I was at BAAF last year (the first year). Um . . . they had good guests and good screenings, and it was better than nothing, but it was kinda lame. BAAF is actually a sponsor of AXNY, there's all kinds of complicated stuff about that I got from talking to a staff member . . . but anyway, since a lot of the AXNY staff is AX staff or AX vets, I think it will go well. The only thing is, last I heard they were pretty badly understaffed . . . well, we'll see, huh? And I'm sure people will have fun. ^^

I was there last year myself, and I thought it was pretty fun for what it was, however the thing was not very well organized and too spread out for a city the size of New York City. The one thing that needs to happen is that it needs to be centralized, and so far it looks like its going to be, and that's a good thing. (Virgin isn't that far from the Hotel so its all good)

Cons on your birthday! Luckyyyy! ^_-

I don't know why we did this, but our hotel is like a mile away.. @_@ I think we are retards.

thats going to be a fun walk

Ayaka
07-31-2002, 05:33 PM
Eh, NY is all about walking. Or taking the subway. Don't complain, I'm going to be staying with my bro on the upper west side . . . oO;;;;;; I'm gonna have to carry my costumes with me and change when I get to the con! =_= But I couldn't rationalize paying for a room at the Marquis . . .

And, if you're trying to do BAAF events, it's STILL not centralized; I believe they're still doing the academic thing, and it will still be at the Japan Society. :P I have to check their site again . . .

I've never been to it and it sounds like fun, however I'm not looking forward to drive. Labor Day weekend... that's a killer.....(coming from MD)

I'll be there deffinately! ^^; With Jenova from Otakon.... I spent way too much money on that costume to wear it only once --;. It'll be revamped though and I'll only be with a Hojo cosplayer this time. :o I look forward to seeing all the cosplayers attending this event. ^^ I'm sure it'll be very fun to have a con in NYC again this year (or rather 2 cons). Still, I think I'm going to drive rather than shell out so much money for their hotel rooms!

Know what's gonna be funny? This is in Times Square... so like... MTV is right there... they're gonna be like, looking down at all of us 'freaks' thinking, "What the hell?!"... Just a thought... heh...

Ayaka
08-01-2002, 11:15 PM
Only the MTV people are gonna think we're freaks? XD I wish I was bringing a costume with a huge-a sword, I'd put the "no-goers" in their place once and for all . . . *Naga laugh*

Word to the wise, though - for crying out loud, DON'T go to the Sbarro's! I'm quite sure I got food poisoning there last year. XP

If anybody from North Carolina is going... :p

I need two things to be able to go. I really want to, but it hinges on me gaining about 150 dollars between now and then, and getting a hotel room with someone once I get there. I've talked to someone and they might be going *hopes*.. and I can room with them.

Now, if someone else from NC (raleigh area) is going and I could catch a ride with them... that would knock off 35 dollars from the cost ^^;

Ahhh well.

Yes, quite right, the Academic and Cultural Events are at the Japanese Society. As for me I live in NYC, I could care less if one event was in the Bronx, seriously. If I really wanted to go, I'm not going to be stopped by the distance at all. That's not what NYC is all about, however you do have many out of towners who reallyy are overwhelmed by the size of the city, and that's where the problems start.

In the end, who cares, right? Its all about you wanna do.

1. BAAF 2k1 was horrid.
2. I will be at AXNY full representing!
3. Miriam Sirouis will be there! She is the VA for Akane Tendo! And I will sacrifice YOUR firstborn for her autograph!
4. AXNY will own Otakon and BAAF! :crylaugh:

Okay, now I can admit it. They lost my freaking registration, for crying out loud. Took over an hour to figure it out. And the stupid head of CPM was dissing Rintaro and Masao Maruyama. I owe him a kick in the knees for that. After that I'll be nice to him though, he doesn't seem like a bad guy overall . . .

Sorry, Ranma, I haven't got any firstborn.

This is going to be the event of the year. But I cannot go. I already am going to AFO3 later this month PLUS AWA8 on the weekend before my birthday. Plus I cannot afford to go- hotel and flights and admission are WAY too expensive. And I really do not wish to go through hellish flights again- next year I will drive to Shoujocon and any other con I go to. I also have a severe crowd phobia. And besides I need to do the lesson plans for my students and MAJORLY work on behavior management.

So this is one that I will miss. But I hope everyone who goes has fun.

Speaking of Big Apple Anime Fest. Its not just an industry con, its a convention made by an Industry player. In this case CPM. And there s the rumor that AXNY will be a one shot deal or not an annual event.

If this is the case, a real NYC Convention is still needed.

"AXNY will own Otakon..." ?
Well now I'm definately going.
Heck, I already took off work for it...

And the fact that THREE people who worked on Cowboy Bebop will be there! @_@ CB 0wnz j00... I must get them to sign my tshirt... yes...

Ayaka
08-04-2002, 11:04 PM
One shot? I hadn't heard that. That's lame. :P Well, maybe it's just a rumor.

I wonder if they'd sign my costume . . . lol ^^

Someone at Shoujocon DID tell me this would be a one-shot event because they are trying to see if they can go international. Rather than a definite one-time only it was kinda like a test, so it is possible that there may be another AXNY next year.

Dang, a huge event in a self-contained hotel. VERY tempting.

I'll be going, but just for Saturday. I haven't decided whether or not to cosplay, it depends on the weather. I really want to wear Mirielle Bouqet again, but I don't want to be mistaken for a hooker.

Aaah, Ranma! Miriam is so sweet! I was lucky enough to work with her during I-Con last year. The group using the voice actor's panel room was running late, so I ended up talking to her there for a little while too. And she gives great hugs ^_^

I really want autographs from Eric Stuart and Rachel Lillis too.

Ayaka
08-06-2002, 10:32 PM
I'm going to be wearing Faye Valentine, speaking of being mistaken for a hooker! Besides Mireille isn't hooker-y to begin with (I think it looks stylish New-Yorker-y personally) . . .

So I'm talking about joining the anime club in my new college to my mom...
"That reminds me... August 31st, there's this anime convention in New York..."
"No, I don't want you in New York.."
"But it's right in Times Square! Perfectly safe."
"No, it's too close to September 11th"

*sweatdrop*

...Looks like I'm gonna either A) Have to persuade her, or B) Sneak out XD

I'm absolutely going. Even if my mom doesn't want me to. Why?
Well, shit, Aug. 30's my 18th birthday, which means freedom from her restrictions, basically.
At least that's how I see it.
And that will be my argument.
