Both at the same time... haven't been to either... which is better you think? I know people who are going to be at ACen, but I love Canada. Bah, the inner torment!

I am sad that the two cons conflict. I've been to AN before (2001), and it is very small. I know LOTS of people going to ACen, so I'm pretty certain I will be there. ^_^ I would love to hear from anyone who's attended both, though!

Yeah, its a pity that AN always ends up conflicitng with another con. Its usually Anime North vs Animazement, but the hotel was already booked for the May 23-25 weekend, so AN was moved to the Victoria Day weekend for 2003.
(Victoria Day is a Canadian holiday. Its like Memorial Day, but its a week before, and Victoria Day is our fireworks day) :p
It seems that 80% of the people on this board planning to go a con on that weekend are going to ACen. So if you wanna meet people from these boards, I'd recommend ACen.
Another factor to consider are the guests and events. If you like the guests going to ACen, go there, if you like the guests going to AN, go there. Checking their websites will give you all the latest info.

As for me, I'm going to AN. Its my local con, I got many many friends attending it, and there's gonna be a DDR machine there. I just hope I'm able to convince more people to come. :bigtu:

Celine, AN was MUCH bigger last year than 2001, since the con moved to a bigger hotel across the street. AN is no longer considered a "small" convention. :p

all I have to say is, the conflict is keeping me from seeing my Limeyaku-chan... waah, Rikkuuuu....*whimper*

heh AN is alot of fun ^^;; i'll be there regardless XD go canada!

Or you can come to Anime North... held in Toronto, voted greatest city in the world! (by Maxim and other numerous sources :p) And stay an extra day for the fireworks! :bigtu:

I wanna go to both! I wish I could. I wanted to go to Anime North last year, but didn't have enough money..... So far I am pretty dure Anime North is my ticket.

Anime Central: http://www.usagichan.com/ACen2002/

Anime North: http://www.usagichan.com/AnimeNorth2002/

You decide based on the reports from 2002. Personally, I like Anime Central because it really rocks the house in terms of cosplay excitement, guests, awesome panels, game shows, dances, and a whole lotta other things. I've also been close friends with all the ACen staff there for years so I know they always deliver on the excitement part.

I have nothing but awesome things to say about Anime North as well... but being in Canada and Chicago at the same time? Uugg... ;_; I can only choose one... ;_;

ACen staff, from my experiences, have repeatedly gone above and beyond the call of duty :3 Not to mention the fact that they're washed, polite, aren't 15 year olds on power trips, aaand... *thinks* They appreciate cosplayers, as opposed to -some other cons-, who despite what they may say, seem to have some bizarre aversion to them.

02-22-2003, 02:27 PM
i only got one thing to say about why you should come to acen...we have Kazuyoshi Katayama as a guest and it's his FIRST american anime convention :D

02-22-2003, 05:20 PM
Well, I really don't want to tear people away from Toronto...because it -is- an awesome locale....but, I will anyway!

ACen is the least stressful con I've ever been to. It just simply has a completely non-con feel to it....it's just like one big hotel party with people who happen to love anime attending.

Um, & I shall offer to extend a special service to ACen goers with cosplay transportation issues. If you can't get your large bulky props on the plane, mail them to me and I'll bring you your gear at the con.

You drive???
what part of chicago are you in??? could i maybe bum a ride? I'm in Dolton

02-22-2003, 06:38 PM
Midorikawa Hikaru will be at AN. I was going to go anyways to visit my canadian friends, but this makes it even better...=O

02-22-2003, 07:02 PM
A stress-free con!? Wow... that sounds great! :D

02-22-2003, 07:15 PM
I'm actually out in Geneva...but we're already packing the van(s) full of massive con party supplies, so toting out a few extra wings, swords or whathaveyou would be no problem.

(There's a lot of people in the area who should be getting into the hotel Thursday night. Maybe we should start some kind of 'friendly locals' thread to help people get rides.)

02-22-2003, 07:17 PM
Midorikawa-sama? Wow, he's one the very few guests that would make a difference to me. (Luckily, I already saw him at Otakon ^_-) But yeah, now there's a good incentive. You clever Canadians.

Geneva...i think that's closer to Rosemont than dolton...I know when I communte up there for the planning meetings (I'm on staff) it takes me up to two hours to get there and that's if the Pace 353 is running on time...
but from the sounds of things, you gotta little caravan goin huh...Well see ya up there

02-22-2003, 10:14 PM
yeah, I kinda wanted to go to Anime North because basicly the entire US voice acting cast will be there i think. I wish my friend could go cause she loves Duo! but she'll be at some big metal fest that weekend... oh welly.

02-27-2003, 11:41 PM
Canada sucks, I hope I will never find that I have set one foot in such an accursed place. :p

Besides i live in Chicago, why would I want to spend money on a plane ticktet and hotel accomodations?

02-27-2003, 11:42 PM
uh...ok :)

Well, obviously, for anybody in the area, we are going to go to ACen absolutely no question. And those with friends in Canada (which isn't as "accursed" as our evil country, now ^_-) will be going there. I believe the point of this thread was to point out the differences between the two cons in order that someone (that would have to travel to get to either of them and didn't yet have a bias towards either) could make an informed decision on choosing their destination.

Anyway, people want defined incentives. Just saying one rocks and the other sucks doesn't help anyone out much.

YUI>>> yup yup... thanks ;)

Well it looks like I'm heading to ACen now instead of ANorth. See you guys there. :)
