View Full Version : Opinions on armor techniques

Ive been trying to read up on a bunch of different techniques for doing armor and the like recently but before I start to experiment was wondering what everyones personall opinions on each were.
So if anyone thats tried vacuuform or fiberglassing or whatever would mind just leaving a little thing on what you thought of it etc etc.
On a side not Ill be attempting parns armor and if anyone thinks one method would work better for my situation than others let me know, I wanna get as many ideas in my head before I start experimenting.

What exactly are you trying to make?

a suit of fake plate mail, such as might be worn by fake medieval knights....

I'm trying to make a Pazer Corps Suit, but I don't know what to make the armor out of any ideas?

Well, I do battle reenactment, and we make all our own armour. Being 16 means I can't exactly make mine myself though, dammit.
If you're interested in making real functional armour, the SCA might be a good place to start - www.sca.com
But I guess only me wants to dress up as a character and then go and kick ass as them, hehehe. >_>

Well I didnt bother mentioning what Im thinkin of making just because I mainly wanted other opinions on what theyve done so far, and as long as it was some kind of armor I was thinking the info people might post could help me either way.
Ill be doing parns armor and possibly young guts from berserk. So if anyone wants to make suggestions based on what theyve used before for similar projects feel free.

I have a suggestion, Don't use aluminum plating from Home Depot, the stuff is hard to work with, I was gonna do a parn costume and soo far it looks like crap. I decided to change costume material to something more flexible and durable. Good luck though.

Heh thx, but I was thinking of keeping away from metals anyway, I was more planning on airbrushing some vacuuformed stuff most likely.
