Hey I remember there was a thread about this ages ago... but unfortunately I put off making an Axel costume for well over a year so I need help now. So I'm having two major issues that anyone whose made a nice Organization coat may be able to help me with:

1, Does anyone know of a fabric store online that sells the right sort of fake leather type material the coats are made of? I keep finding upholstery fabrics or just fabric with that nasty PVC shine when I search. The fabric is tricky since it seems to be somewhat heavy but also easy to bend elbows in. I can't find anything good locally so this is my only option it seems.

2, Just what would one need to do to make a zipper split halfway up like their zippers do? I've found one or two places online with huge parka-like zippers that run four feet but if I should be getting some special zipper that'd split properly I need to know.

Any assistance is appreciated. Hopefully there'll be more Organization XIII members cosplayed in the future than I've seen thus far. ^_^

http://spandexhouse.com/products.asp?id=47&pname=Stretch%20Pleather

or if you can personally contact them...

They carry a great faux leather that I've used for my Ion boots and it's very soft feeling but has a reasonable amount of stretch. Knit back but not as grainy in appearance as spandex house's stuff. It's a steal for 12.99 a yd.

Im not making one of the KH2 coats, but I am making something similar. I found this interesting type of fabric at a Hancock Fabric store recently. It was in their upholstery/tapestry section on the 60" rolls. Its similar to a vinyl but its much thinner; taking a closer look at it, I noticed the backing was some sort of nylon. The sticker on it said "PVC" but it doesnt have that shine. It flows nicely too. And it was only 5$/yard. I think it would be a great fabric for the Organization coats. I dont know if they have this fabric listed on their site, but you could check any stores near you. For the zipper, I was directed to http://www.joanns.com/catalog.jhtml;$sessionid$KLAQ1QYAAANYIP4SY5NBHOR50 LD3OEPO?CATID=82285&PRODID=100238&source=search#select by someone who has made several of the coats.

Good Luck

The type of zipper your looking for is called a "Two-way Separating Zipper"

Here (http://www.seattlefabrics.com/zippers.html) is a site I found that has many different types to choose from. I plan to get the sleeping bag zipper (size #10, molded tooth) and shorten it for my coat.

I just got back from the fashion district at downtown LA and I am happy to say I found several fabric stores there selling really really cheap fabric and I picked up abunch of fabric and along the way bought some for an Organization Coat cosplay. The fabric I got isnt necessarily pleather or PVC. It feels really soft, almost like cotton but it closely resembles the impresison of Pleather from afar and even upclose. It looks almost like Spandex but I'm not entirely sure of the name of it. I will go back there tomorrow and I will ask what the name of it is called :D

Ooooh those are nice zippers. But the question is will it seperate from the bottom as well? I mean if I get a 48" zipper how will it split at the bottom stop? Ah, the weird things KH zippers have to do. Part of me just wants to get a 3 foot zipper and let it just end at the knee. >P

megumibish: ah I'm tempted by that first link. Only thing deterring me is that it isn't smooth... but it seems perfect otherwise.

If it says, "separating" in the description, then it will separate at the bottom like a regular jacket zipper. Both zipper pulls have to be pulled to the bottom to separate completely.

I second spandexhouse for pleather. When I went to the store myself in New York, their pleather was absolutely the best I've found!

www.mjtrends.com also has nice pleather
as well as www.denverfabrics.com
but spandexhouse has the thickest of fashion pleather. It was a really nice weight with some stretch. Used it for Kadaj/Yazoo coats and worked wonderfully.

Looked at your photos, that fabric does look PERFECT for the coats. Because, ya know, those thumbnails for black pleather on the sites rarely give you an idea of just what it looks like in real life... so I did request a swatch from them and a few other sites but I have a feeling Spandexhouse may be my choice given how it looks in your photos. ^_^

The split zipper is actually a two-way zipper, but the render of the generic Order coat doesn't show it. I ended up buying a quilt zipper for my Riku one, and I'm going to fake a double-ender with Sculpey.

My mom doesn't let me order things online outside of amazon and eBay, so that was all I could go with. :\
