WHY is there a friggin' anime con (I'm assuming) in CORAOPOLIS, PN but none in Phoenix?! What the hell is a Coraopolis anyway?! >_<

(Don't mind me, I'm just frustrated... :P)

I might because I hear the rates for hotel and admissions is extremely cheap (75 a night and 25 for two day admissions). However, it is a ghetto con so there isn't much to expect (I'm not too thrilled w/ the DDR schedule of it being based on partially on Konamix.. but whatever). It also comes down to transportation of getting up there.

CORRECTION: Tekkoshocon is in Pittsburgh, not Coraopolis. That's what the official site (tekkoshocon.com) has said.

Coraopolis is prolly a tiny little town outside Pittsburgh. Kinda like how Animazement is in 'Durham' but is actually closer to downtown Raleigh than to downtown Durham XD .. except durham isn't a tiny little town, it's a city ^_^;; .. but that's just me guessing o_o NEVER TRUST MY GUESSING. ^-^v

The convention is in Coraopolis PA. It is like 5 minutes out of Pittsburgh. It's located at the Robinson Town Center. It is a huge shopping district. It has a mall, and tons of stores all over. It's also about 15 minutes from Pittsburgh Airport. So, while you are there, look up.......Jet's are landing right above your head!

Oh and yes we'll be there. We are wearing Tohru and Kyo from Fruits Basket, Fuuko and Hibiki from Strawberry Eggs, and Yayoi and Sera from G-On Riders.

And there is nothing wrong with a "Ghetto" con. Just because its the con's first year, doesn't mean its going to be bad. It just means that it isn't going to be crowded........

I'm really looking forward to this con. For the first time we don't have to get a hotel room. It's only an hour away from our house.

Yes, Furuba! Must..get...pics... ^^ And Amen, Rogue-san! Ohayocon's first year was great in my opinion. I think Tekkoshocon might be able to pull it off. Have faith in the fans!

In my opinion, being about 15 minutes from this con, it's going to stink. First of all, the mascot is... eh... not cute.. and secondly, they could've picked a better place in Pittsburgh than Robinson Mall. Anyway, not many people will be there, I know that for sure and there isn't much happening. The guests are alright but I've seen bigger and secondly, it's rather expensive for such a small con. But oh well... I'll be there seeing as it's my duty considering I drive six hours to some cons and this one is practically a stone throw away. I must, being from Pittsburgh, support this con so I will. I don't know if I'll be in cosutme... maybe Lum if it's not too horribly bitter cold like it has been here. Ah well, anyone who's going, see ya there and enjoy our fabulous ice weather!

I'll be there as well, as I believe I've mentioned in several other threads about it on here ^^;; As for the location, I think they picked it because it's close to the Pittsburgh International Airport *shrugs*.

Oh yeah, that's a valid reason to say a con will suck. Geez, give it a chance first. Small cons can rule.
What's wrong with Robinson mall? Its better than downtown Pittsburgh. It's close to the airport, plenty of places to eat, and plenty of places to shop.
There might not be a lot of people there, but so what. That doesn't mean that it won't be fun. It can be more relaxing.

Anyway, its about time that Pittsburgh got an anime convention. I used to like the Pittsburgh Comic-Con, but it never changes. And all they try to do is bring in professional wrestlers to raise attendence and make things more CROWDED.

Being on staff for Tekkoshocon, I feel the insane need to put my 2 yen in here.

I too live near the con -- 10 minutes or so (depending on how I go and how FAST I go) away. The Wyndham is a fairly nice hotel, I've heard of several Christmas parties there, and they were very nice. I have not had the chance to scope things out yet (darn other cons) but I've seen LOTS of photos of the inside of the place. Nice hotel, and yes very acessable to the airport.

You don't want to go to downtown Pittsburgh believe me. I live here and never go downtown if I can help it. It's irritating.

Robinson is a very nice place, Rouge24 is right about the eats -- TONS of places to go, from Mickey D's to an Outback Steakhouse, Panera Bread, Quaker Steak and Lube (GREAT wings!) and a huge Joann's, Ikea and the bigass mall that I've been to like once :)

I've never been to a really small con so I'm looking forward to it. I really don't think it is going to suck.

Ohayocon was next to a mall this year too. That might be a good thing :)

It's first year con, and we need the support -- we want to make Tekkoshocon 2 a reality! I can't wait to see you all there, I am not sure what I am going to be wearing yet, I'm not making anything new for it (no time -- I have too much other stuff to do for it.) Probably Presea or Ichigo on Saturday, and I don't know what on Sunday.

I appricate that you will be attending Tekkoshocon. It is "my baby" after all, but I feel you are judging us too early.

Being a brand new con, we don't have much money to work with. We have to rent facilities, pay for transportation, hotel and food for each guest and many other expenses to worry about.

I'd love to have a Japanese guest or two, particularly voice actors. I'm a fan myself But to get japanese guests you have to have excellent contacts in Japan and a few thousand dollars. Neither of which we have.

As for our registration price I feel we are very competitive. Shoujocon got it's start as a two day convention in 2001 and they charged $40 at the door for the two days. Tekkoshocon is charging $35. We'd lose our shirts if it was any less.

The location was selected because of the facilities, room price and proximity to the airport. I will do everything in my power to keep Tekkoshocon out of downtown Pittsburgh. The hotels there are way too expensive, there is no parking and what parking you have to pay for is expensive. The suburbs are much better locations for conventions. Closer to other things, cheaper and free parking.

We are doing our best to get a convention started. That's a feat in of itself. We won't be perfect but we'll try our best.

Well, don't get me wrong, I am supporting this con. We deffinately need one in this area seeing as obviously there are quite a few fans here. But I just think it needs something. There isn't any catch in it, y'know? I mean sure, it'll most likely be fun and a very nice drive, for me at least, but what draws me and most of my friends to con's is something that no other con has. Yes, I understand it's hard with low finances but that's why I thought maybe it should be "under construction" a bit longer to get the contact and money needed for big guests and such. But mind you, there is a reason I don't run cons and you do Rebecca. I'm just stating my opinion but I will support it more than any other con seeing as it's desperately needed.

I'm going... as I have friends in the area and it'll be a great time to kick back. I love small cons... you can get to know everyone and throw some mad fun parties... is there a pool?

anyone for a game of blitzball? :)

OK, I live downtown Pgh by the Civic Arena.... I am soooooo glad we have a con comming! I mean... yeah, I would rock if it was held in the Oakland Wydam or something(very convieniant for me and alot of college kids).... but, come on now.... where the heck would anyone park?! I mean seriously. If anyone here is actually from Pittsburgh (or has ever been there) they would know it would suck to have it downtown or anywhere super urban.

Driving sucks in Pittsburgh, parking is insane... and , unless you want to get pee-ed on, or mugged, or dumped in the river..... could you see a bunch of kids wandering downtown, South Side, Northside, or Oakland all up in thier costumes after hours? Or taking the bus around? Dude, I live at the bottom of the Hill, and I dunno about you, but I think the Robinson area is a fine choice. There are alot of resteraunts, stores, etc in the area. and it is a safe place and 10/15 min from downtown.

And, for the love of Pete.... it is the first con! Give it a chance! Have you ever thrown a con? I haven't.... I think the fact that they are trying to bring something cool to the 'burgh earns merrit in itself! You go girls/guys! I'll be there! I hope alot of people dress.

I quick question... anyone know the fake weapons policy? Anything like Katsu? Can I have a toy gun maybe?

rogue
03-10-2003, 07:04 PM
Oakland!?! Ha, ha, ha. All the cosplayers will have to walk over top of the bumbs. That's the main reason I didn't go to Pitt. But, hey don't get me wrong, I love Pittsburgh, its a lot safer than Baltimore, and they have really good concerts in the strip district.

I'm also curious about the weapons policy. We're bringing a big "blade pole thing" and a giant sword. Both are obviously fake and made of foam core and PVC pipe.

boyfriend!! Pittsburgh! LMAO I think I juts got lucky.
Where are all the good men dead? In the heart or in the head?

Anyways, back to the Tekkoshocon thing. I think they really need to revise thier marketing/PR campaign. They didn't really brand an identity. Thje steel city concept is a good start, but I don't hink they have really made an impact with it yet. I am a graphic design student, and I work for a major marketing communications firm in Pgh. I offered my services as a donation... but they didn't seem interested. Maybe next year.

::giggles:: Yea, a good catch in Pittsburgh... Grosse Pointe Blank rpd-girl? Nice...

The thing about having a con in Pittsburgh though is there has to be a bigger theme. I mean, Tekko is cute and all but there needs to be a little more to her. And the actual theme of steel is alright, but it needs to be more elaborate. And as for downtown, it really isn't that bad. I lived down there, currently go to school there and do all my basic "hanging out" down there. And of all the people I know I only know of one incident. Oh, and also, this con deffinately needs to be advertised heavily in the local schools. I know so many people in my classes who when they find out I'm into anime and go to cons for it they totally flip because they never even knew there was cons for anime. There are so many untapped anime fans in the local colleges around Pittsburgh, especially Pitt and CCAC.

Anyway, I'm done giving my opinions. I know I'll be there for sure both Saturday and Sunday but I'm not quite sure on costumes. I hope it's not too cold. I'll probably wear my Lum and maybe Tira Misu.

See you all there!!

Also, cosplay.com photo shoot? I was thinking 1:15 ish (right after the cosplay panel, which I'm running) and place, by the piano in the lobby? I'll be there, probably dressed as Presea or Ichigo.

Did everyone get the COSP message about weapons at Tekkoshocon?

If you didn't here's the deal:
You can't have any weapons of any kind in the halls. No metal, no wood, no foam, nothing.

You can however have weapons in the cosplay contest.

I for one am not very happy about this. Flexei and I went out of our way to make pretty kick-ass weapons for our G-On Riders costumes if I do say so myself. Luckily were are wearing them for the cosplay, but........I really wanted to parade around the hall with them for a little while.

Sadly the decsion came down not from con staff but the hotel itself. We have no control over this one, we tried really hard to get them to relent but this whole war thing ... <watches bombs fall on Baghdad, yay CNN>

Mebbe next year. Pray for peace. (Not just for us though. Like Steve Bennet has said on numerous occasions "War Sucks")

War just sucks. Before Sept. 11 most americans believed that we were always safe here on our continent. Be now we feel vulnerable. I think were acting a little too paranoid, but the con hotel just wants everyone to be safe, so I understand their concern.

If anyone cares, now that the schedule is up, we figured out a cosplay schedule.

Saturday:
10:00 am - 1:00 pm: Tohru & Kyo from Fruits Basket
1:00 pm - 4:00 pm: Fuuko & Hibiki from Strawberry Eggs
5:00 pm - 10:00 pm (cosplay contest): Sera & Yayoi from G-On Riders
10:00 pm - 12:00 am: Tohru & Ayame from Fruits Basket

Seeing that the convention is only going till 2:00 on Sunday, I don't think we'll be going. I have to go to church, and I won't be home until 11:00 and it takes us over an hour to get to Pittsburgh. It's just not worth the drive. I thought since its only a two day convention that it would go on later in the day on Sunday. Oh well.

Emiko: Reiko, you've been here for 2 hours?
Reiko: *mumbles* 4...hours...gonna pass out...

Well, Emy and I will be there around 9 am, if not earlier. We'll be in our One-Piece costumes til late evening, then we'll switch to our normal, messed up selves.

Sleep deprivation is fun! o.O()

Wow...I am so friggin worn out! But it's a good worn out. I should have my pics developed in a few weeks, and I'll scan the best ones when I get the chance. I think the con went over VERY well for a first year.

Oh, and for Ameria-chan and her group, congrats! and here's the link to that site: http://legato_bluesummers.tripod.com/onepiece/rumbugger.htm

See everyone at whatever con Emiko and I go to next!

We were REALLY surprised at the turn out (in the dealers room at least) and didn't think we'd do as well as we thought we did. Thanks everyone!!! :)

We had such a great time at the con! Thanks to everyone, especially those who signed up for the B.P.F. or helped to support it. ^_^ We were very shocked to get any kind of award for our first group skit. We're so honored! Thanks to everyone who complimented us on it, we really appreciate it. Kodama Power!

Hmm, 1:15? I think we missed it. Emy was passed out in the room, and I was either drawing anime kitties for money or doin something. Oh well, we couldn't use our weapons for the shoot, anyway!

Gomen! I was supposed to be there to organize stuff but I got stuck doing staff stuff in Ops, we were tunning shout on staff! I'm soo sorry I wanted to be there, sine I suggested it, but I remembered at like 1:45 and by then it was waaay too late.

Con staff should not organize photo shoots. Nuff said.

Woo hoo! Thanks for the closeup of our infamous Kodama sign. XD And oh my God, I didn't realize how hard it was to hear our skit soundtrack..we were so off with the movements and lipsynching. Ah well, the video sure helps for next time! ^^
