Here are the official details. (http://www.animemetro.com/metroconventions/control.cfm?ID=641)

If you have any questions, feel free to email me (my email is on my profile and on that page) or ask here. =^_^=v I will try to answer as fully and clearly as possible.

Here are a few of the main changes for this year in here as a quick reference. You will still need to visit the page for full details about the contest and how to enter.

~New awards! Best Small Group for groups with 2-5 members, Best Large Group for groups with 6-15 members, Best Character Likeness for the entry that looks the most like the character, and the Host Award is now an official award after Lauren Goodnight gave one last year!

~There is a group limit of 15 members

~No more waiting in the hallway for hours to be judged! Callback times will be given this year and we have our OWN PRIVATE ROOM that is directly connected to the main events room!

~Can't walk? Bring a friend to be your handler with you to be approved at judging. **Note: this is for the cosplayers that are entering solo and can't move well at all-for those of you that can walk on your own but may need help going up and down stairs there will be handlers provided at those points**

~Want to make a costume to enter but don't feel comfortable wearing it? Bring a friend to model!

~You need in-progress photos for any props being entered.

More information and Costume Contest FAQs available at the page linked above.

Can't wait to see everyone there!

I appreciate your organization for the contest, Julie. It makes it that much easier for the cosplayers entering and I anticipate things running smoothly with judging this year. ^^ I can't wait to see all the costumes!

We figured since this contest is judging your creation of the costume and not you wearing it. This way those people who are self conscious or something can still enter their costumes without having to wear them. Full details on the site. =^.^=

uh what about kimono's?

Kimono's are traditional Japanese fashion, so that counts, too. =^.^= There is always the option of going in this direction (http://www.cosmates.jp/shop/product_info/cp-43_78_84/pid-2370.html) or going in the direction of the theme (Cute vs Scary) as well.

Like Hime no Toki said, yes, it's Sunday. You come to sign up for pre-judging from 1pm-2:30pm (pre-judging will continue until 3, but we will not be accepting any more sign ups after 2:30). Line up is at 3 in the same room and the stage presentation is at 3:30.

In case anyone is concerned about the Chess Match encore show on Sunday: the sign ups, pre-judging, and stage presentation DO NOT conflict with each other. Most of the contest staff is in the match, of which include all three judges, so there will not be any conflicts whatsoever.

Also, the contest staff will all be marked so you are aware who are "in charge." If one of them tell you to be quiet or that your costume isn't appropriate, listen to them. =^.^=v

Kay two questions (based on knowledge of past years/contests/etc).

What happens if the chess match runs over? Is there a gap time to allow for the event to switch from one to the other?

If one isn't seeing the chess match, but intended to enter the costume, would they be able to get into a line so the second sign up starts they can be first to grab a spot?

1. Roy and I have discussed this. Thankfully, this is the encore performance so any problems we hit on Saturday can, in theory, be fixed on Sunday. Like I said, we have taken other precautions (you know about some, can't talk about them here in detail, though) to make sure there aren't any huge time issues.

2. Yes, we will have a line up set up ahead of time outside the pre-judging room. Everything will be marked off clearly and there will be signs up at "hot spots" (ie outside registration and the dealer room) giving details and times for the contest.

Yes, we have different catagories. It's all on the page, but I will quote them here:

-Anime/Manga**********************
-JRock/JPop
-EGL/EGA*(Elegant Gothic Lolita/Elegant Gothic Aristocrat)
-Video Game
-Kowai (Scary)*********************
-Kawaii (Cute)

The last two are the themes for this year. Sweet Lolita will be classified under EGL/EGA.

Remember that you must make at LEAST 50% of your costume by hand. We will be looking at seams and other technical details. Plus when it comes to EGL my sister (who is the one that enters you into the computer to compete in the contest) is familiar with the mainstream brands (BtSSB, Body Line, Metamorphose, etc) so she might just notice a store-bought dress.
