Ever notice that all of the best songs these days are remakes? Name your favorite remakes (preferably english, but anything goes)

Let's see:

Smooth Criminal (Alien Ant Farm)
Tainted Love (Marilyn Manson)
Paint it Black (Vanessa Carlton... not the best, but still good)
Metro (System of a Down)

I like Coal Chamber's rendition of "Cars." I forgot who did it originally ^^;;. And I also love Alien Ant Farm's version of "Smooth Criminal."

Here's mine:

Any song the Ramones covered was very good too, 'cause they put a really different spin on it and they had lots of energy. ^^
Sweet Dreams - Marilyn Manson
Less Than Jake - I Think I Love You
Less Than Jake - Greased (CD of Grease songs covered from the movie)
Punk Goes Pop (CD full of pop covers)
Punk Goes Metal (CD full of metal covers)

That's all I can think of.

Do you mean that the covers are better than the original? Because I would beg to differ on that one. There are very few covers that I think are better or anywhere near as good as the original. Probably because I'm a Beatles fan and most of their stuff is covered and not nearly as good.

Or do you mean that the music put out today is such crap that the only good songs are covers? I do really like Vanessa Carlton's version of Paint it Black.

Scrapps desu

I mean that the remakes are better than what else is out there, not that they are better than the first. THe original's are always better. I'm not saying that today's music is crap, just that the remakes are what I listen too mostly.. I guess I have a retro sense of taste in music.. ^^;;

hmm was informed by my friend that Type O Negative did a cover of Briney Spears' "Hit Me Baby One More Time". It truly is a frightening thing, I love it =P

Other remakes:

Kelly Osbourne : Papa don't preach (Madonna)
Natalie Imbruglia : Torn (Unni Willhelmsen)
Britney Spears : I love rock'n'roll (?)
Britney Spears : I can't get no satisfaction (the rolling stones)
and H.O.T. did some really wierd live stuff like only you and livin lavida loca

Not really good songs, so this is more when the original was best
(well papa and torn were kinda cool)

Ahmet and Dweezil Zappa - ...Baby One More Time

They made it so much better, but I'm also biased because I first heard it in a great Utena video at Otakon '01. ;P

I don't really know bands that much, but I do like the remake of the Monkee's "I'm a Beliver" from Shrek. I think the reason that a lot of the good music that's around today are remakes of older songs is because those songs were good in the first place.
