yup. I'm trying to make a cape for my character. All I have right now is a long black sheet of cloth. Basically, all I need to know is how to cut it on top to make it less wide than the bottom. My friend suggested something like this:
(you might have to copy and paste the URL directly into your address bar because of the damn direct linking rules or whatnot...)
Does that look like it would work?
and also, would you suggest doing a lining?

O.o er... I suppose that's one way to do it... It's very crude though, and depending on how wide the fabric is-- that determines how voluminous it will be. (45 inches won't wrap around *me* properly!)
Any cloak or cape is normally done in a circular shape, either in one piece (if you have wide enough fabric), or large segments of a circle sewn together.
The only "rectangular" cloak that works is the Celtic style, which is basically a huge rectangle of fabric draped around the shoulders, with one corner thrown over the opposite shoulder and pinned... but I don't think that's what you're llooking for... ^.^
As for a lining, it's not dire, but a good idea, because cloaks tend to "fly away", and a lining will add some weight. It would also probably look better too-- more polished.
You might wanna try these sites:
Or do a Google search for "making cloak", and you'll find more...
