Ok, I've decided to cosplay Yoruichi from Bleach and I'm having a hard time figuring out what kinda fabric I should use to make her jacket? I want something that conforms easily as I want the jacket to be sorta form fitting. Does anyone have any ideas on what they think I should use? Here's a picture if it helps of Yoruichi, sorry it's the best I could find!!! Any help would be much appreciated!

I think twill would work nicely; it's extremely versatile, durable, and not too pricey. It's also dyeable if you can't find the right color.

That's my suggestion.

I appreciate your suggestion! I actually saw some twills at JoAnn's that looked close in color to what I wanted, but since this is my first costume I wanted to get other ideas as well.. But I do have a twill fabric I like, if that would be a good material to use?

Also, I was thinking about modifying a karate gi pattern to give me some direction. Do you think that's the best pattern to go with??? Lol, sorry, so lost.

For my Yoruichi cosplay, I used a Jedi shirt pattern (I think it was from McCall's?)... when I checked it out, it was actually just the top from a karate gi. It did require a few alterations... shorten the sleeves, and add a band to hold the sleeves at your elbow. Shorten the entire length so that it will fit nicely under the belt. Also, make sure you tailor it so you get that close fitting. Overall, the modifications were very easy to do, and the pattern is super-simple (as a matter of fact, I also altered it to work for Uruhara's shirt, and later for his jacket).

As for the fabric, I used an orange twill from JoAnn's. It really gives it that sturdiness that a jacket needs.
