Hi Guys!!!

I was wondering if anyone has done any Air Gear cosplays or is planning some. If so, would you mind giving a few tips? ^^

I'm thinking of doing Agito/Akito (http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/airgear/character/chara09.html) first, but I do have others in mind such as Minami Itsuki/Ikki (http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e317/vahn_yukishiro/1139949041330.jpg), his four sisters: Mikan, Ringo, Ume, and Rika, Simca (http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/airgear/character/chara06.html), and Mikura Kazuma (http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/airgear/character/chara07.html) so far...

Any suggestion on any other the following characters would be greatly appreciated.

OH! And one more thing, I know some of the chracters have embelms, so if anyone knows how I can get them, tat'd be great too...^^

So far for AX my group is doing all the characters you've pretty much named off in your possible list.

And currently, I'm working on both Agito and Akito's jackets.

as for the emblem, I would suggest either making them yourself or finding a place that does custom stickers so they do stick to stuff.

i'm cosplaying as akito/agito in a few months at mtac. my costume was tailor made though. my dad is constructing a pair of at's. a friend of mine online has some sleeping forest embelms she used for her cosplay, i'll find out how she made them or if she has some she doesn't need.

good luck with your cosplay.

It warms my cold blackhole of a heart to hear that more people are getting into Air Gear.
I went to Ohayocon last month and I was one of 7 or 8 air Gear cosplayers. Mind you, all of them were Akito/Agito and one was Ringo (sadly her costume didn't stick out enough). I did A Skull Sader (http://images.cosplay.com/showphoto.php?photo=963470) and many air gear fans (costume or not) were happy to see me

Now, I love Agito/Akito as a character, but he's a really really over done for cosplay. Like I said, I was outnumbered by Agito/Akitos 7 to 1 at Ohayocon. All good costumes, but none of them did the Kogarasumaru uniform.
I'd like to see someone even do Agito in the wedding dress from the Kansai arc if you're looking to do something original.
But, I'll shut up about that now before you all hate me.

I plan on building a few more Skull Sader helmets and even some Prop ATs if I can (should probably ask for any help you can offer Kill me kiss me)

I cosplayed Simca for Otakon 2k6. For emblems you might want to check the manga. In each volume they have a picture of a team emblem on the "table on contents" page. ^_^

mtac is allowing me to wear my at's throughout the convention, (cautious to watch out for toes or fingers of course.) i'd be honored to help you out every step of the way, while mine will be mobile, if you just want them for show, i can even tell you how to bound the wheels.

my at's are still in process, and i've even taken several progress pictures which i'll have developed at the end of this week.

just send me a pm and we can talk it over.

I've been throwing around the idea of cosplaying this (http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/3765/11903ne2.jpg) version of Simca. There aren't any official colored pics of this outfit that I'm aware of, so I was wondering if anyone had any color suggestions. I was thinking of making it black and pink, but I'm not sure...

You mean.. Like these? (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v638/chrowx/Projects/Patterns/Air%20Gear%20Emblems/Untraced%20Emblems/)

I gathered all the pictures I could find becuase I'm tracing (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v638/chrowx/Projects/Patterns/Air%20Gear%20Emblems/) each of them for making stickers and patches.

Kimmy: If you need I can get you some more reference for that outfit. Simca only wears it once and the chapter she wears it in is full of spoilers if you don't keep up with the scanlations.

kill me kiss me:
Any tips, do's, don'ts, and all that would be nice. Since most of the work is making a boot cover, the other issue is attaching a pair of casters (wheel holders) onto a shoe so they can still be worn comfortably

@ChrowX - Mmhmm. ^_^ That's how I got all of the emblems I have. Simca, Sleeping Forest, Kogarasumaru, Genesis and Agito. n.n And also, Agito's emblem is black at the top and fade into a dark blue towards the bottom. ^o^

I want to finish up with Simca's Gensis version... -_-;; Still have to buy a new wig and make her shoes and tie. Then i'm all done. >o<;; Just haven't gotten around to it yet...

Yay! Air gear fans!

I've actually been thinking about cosplaying Simca (http://www.toei-anim.co.jp/tv/airgear/character/chara06.html) as well. Possibly for A-kon 18 or San Japan, depending on when it gets finished and which con I get to go to.

I suggest you cosplay Mikura Kazuma. I reaaaly think you look similar.

Hey guys! I'm working on a Simca costume for myself and an Ikki (Kogarasumaru version) for my husband. So far I've just made emblems. A friend of mine scanned in the back of her Agito pinky box, and I've scoured the net. I flipped the pictures in photoshop, enlarged them, printed them out, traced them onto shrinky dinks, and voila:

They still need pin backs, but I'm thrilled with the result. It doesn't hurt that shrinky dinks are just flippin' cool. I was thinking of sculpting and resin casting so the emblems would have more dimension, but this is way more fun.

@Kimmy - There's a figure of that Simca: http://www.cartoon.co.th/news/read_news.asp?id=1486&cid=6
You're not too far off with pink and black.

I've got a question for all of you. Simca's backpack appears to magically stay on despite the straps being loose around her arms. I was thinking of making the green straps fake and having real white straps up around my shoulders. Has anyone else tackled this? What methods did you use?

Yuki Souma
03-01-2007, 11:00 PM
I remember you Naykomii :D I was the Akito with green hair cause I was a nub and didn't bleach it enough first XD

As for Akito's costume, my only advice is be careful with all the dangly bits, make sure they're attached well, I lost the back 2 straps a couple times cause they got snagged on crap(This is for the straight jacket one) If you're doing the Team costume, it'd be alot easier, only have to worry about the leg straps then XD

(I asked this in another thread but thought I would here if anyone looks at this thread instead of the other.)

To all those that have done or are doing Akito/Agito's straight jacket, where did you find those metal square rings, I've looked through hardware stores and the fabric store I went to and found nothing (except for semicircle rings, but I'm a picky person for detail).

Where did you buy yours and is there anyone thinking of going as Akito/Agito or any Air Gear character at Anime Evolution (in Vancouver, Canada) this summer?

AT Guide (http://myspace.com/airtrek)

Huh.

that's actually not bad. The front and rear wheel need to be far larger, but that's by and large the best AirTrek that I've ever seen.

It can't be that hard...it just needs a stable axle and the proper large wheel.

The Evil One
03-30-2007, 12:01 AM
tsudaski: I know I have seen square rings a Joann's, but like most things in that store they weren't where you would think they should be. They were on the end of an Isle of buttons. I scowered that store looking for hardware for Gabishi that almost doesn't even exist....

I'll be up at AE this summer, there should actually be a rather large turn out for Air Gear next year. Roller blades/ATs are allowed. =3

Mesoian: So far I have found two approaches to AT wheels, shopping cart wheels done by a Japanese guy and 100mm scooter wheels. I think the former look nice because you can find them in the right size but their flatness mixed with the fact they are so hard would make riding them rather hard. 100mm scooter wheels are polyurethane and work very well at grabbing the road but they lack the thickness of an AT wheel. I searched before and the only other option I could find was custom made polyurethane wheels, which i didn't have the cash for. Thats my half a cent worth of experience. I'm open to ideas if anyone has any.

tsudaski
03-31-2007, 09:59 PM
Is there a Joann's in Vancouver? I thought they were all in the US so that's why i haven't seen one around here...

Maybe I should check the store I went to again...and look ALL around for them.

Yuki Souma

Here's my attempt at ATs so far, bought some cheap roller blades, and I've been painting/trying to figure out a way to sculpt them abit, but I think I like your idea better lol.. On the upside these ones have the larger Wheels, which makes them look abit better :\ the wheels are just too far apart ><

The only thing I'll say about my way, is they're probably gonna be alot sturdier, but then again, I know nothing about metalworking X3

I'm thinking about taking off the extra plastic so they look more like ATs, but I'm not sure how well they'll support my ankle without the strap.. Unfortunately I can't really test that out until I remove, in which case it might be too late ~_~;

Oh and any ideas for a good overcoat once I'm done painting/sharpie-ing them so they don't chip?

Yuki Souma
04-02-2007, 11:23 PM
Well I took the masking off them, and tbh, they look more like a style of skate Ikki would wear now o.0 lol, sorry, all I have is a webcam, so crappy quality at the moment :\

Other than the wheels being too far apart, I think they look decent so far, I think I'm gonna try to buy scooter wheels to put on them instead (They actually have alot of room for larger wheels for some reason) or I'm gonna get my hands dirty like The Evil One, since I like working with stuff :3, I was looking at an upturned shopping car earlier while I was packing gorceries, and I can definately see how those wheels would work, other than they'd be alittle skiddy... I might have to go "Liberate" a cart from the ditch outside wallmart some day.. there's alot of carts in there the cart guys are too lazy to get XD

The Evil One
04-04-2007, 08:30 AM
Those look pretty good Yuki Souma, better than mine at the present xD. Yesterday I had the exact same thought about an abandoned wal-mart cart, one could even call it community service to do a little 'cleaning.' Check to see if your track will accommodate a wider wheel before you turn to grand-theft-cart-wheelage. ^_^

tsudaski: I found even more at the local micheals. Really they aren't that complex, it may be possible to just buy some wire and bend it to shape.

Yuki Souma
04-04-2007, 11:25 AM
I figured they'd fit a Scooter wheel easily enough, I just need to grind about 3-4mm off of the metal bit inside so they roll freely, I know they wouldn't fit shopping cart wheels though :\ I'd have to work something else out, and I still need to work on Kite's daggers, so I think I'll just go with scooterwheels. Plus they're stronger I think, they can take some hard hits, the wheels that came with these blades break really easy, I've already busted 3 of them, just out skating around T_T

what size dollfie?

i'm making them too for my msd and my tiny and one of my apple dolls. :)

i found a nive pair of roller skates that if you pull of the trecks you could use for a base for an sd, they are a bit big for msd but i'm making them work. :) i think scupley should work as a base. like to do the hard body and the wheels and such and the axels, but i'd use something else for the soft parts if you were thinking of making the whole thing out of sculpey.

I'd probably just do the base where the wheels attach, since I wouldn't want to risk damaging the feet. And I don't actually have one yet, I've been looking for one, preferably that looks close to Agito, or Ikki, but I can't find a decent place that has alot of selection

Hello fellow Air Gear fans and cosplayers,I recently finished the series and it was awesome. There seems to be a horde of Agito/Akito cosplayers but hardly any Ikki cosplayers. Is that any way to treat the main character, lol.Anyway,I'll be joining the ranks of Air Gear cosplayers fairly soon as Ikki ,but the AT's I'm having a problem with, naturally.I saw these skates by 2Xtreme,they were bluish*I'll just paint some of the plastic parts yellow.* I was thinking of taking off the wheels and sanding the the tressels to fit the wheels.Would that work or is that wishful thinking?

Yuki Souma
04-15-2007, 12:25 AM
Be careful with doing alot of re-shaping to the wheel supports, even if it doesn't look like something on them is important, or that a piece off here or there, won't weaken them.. Lol It can sometimes, I broke a pair of rollerblades trying to make my first ATs, because they wouldn't support the weight. >.< But yeah, it's the easiest way to go, if you don't have the tools to scratchbuild metal bits. my AT's for Akito are coming along alright, they're gonna look different, but they should be close.

Question on Ikki's red windbreaker. Are his sleeves a darker red than the main part of his jacket? I was looking at a poster of him,and thought about it.To me its like maroon, but a little lighter than that, and what fabric would you all suggest for making his "windbreaker".And what is the white ruffly stuff called that are used for collars you see on jackets like that?

Alright, I have a dilema; my sister picked out Ume leaving me as Mikan. We are going to do the Sleeping Forest group's Air Trek/Battle attire. I would like to know if anyone knows of sites or has found pictures that include the details of what exactly all those little silver spots are on Mikan's blue coverall. I know some are patchs, but the rest I'm lost on. Can you help?

Second question; what's Ringo's official hair-color? It looks Magenta-ish in the anime, yet the manga cover has a picture of her with brown. Huh?

Silver spots? Hmm... (attached to the sleeves and on her outfit right?), I believe they're emblems (if not, then just little pins). If you read the manga version, Vol.1, Chap.3, Page 140, and Vol.2, of Chap.7, should have a pretty clear picture of what she has on her outfit. I don't remember what this would look like in the anime, but I'm sticking with the original manga.

-Same with Ringo's hair colour. I personally prefer the brown because it's the original, but I've seen it done so many ways. I don't know the official colour of it.

Which leads to, and of course, relates to my question...
**What's Kururu's original hair colour? XD;; *laughs* I've seen it coloured pink on the manga cover, but others who have cosplayed Kururu made her a blond. If anyone can answer this, it'd be muchly appreciated. : D Thanks~!

Hmm, I know it's early, but I'm about to start working on Simca for Otakon next year. Time enough to make real A/T's!

But...will they let me wear them at Otakon?

We really need to get a list going of cons that Do/Do Not allow A/T's and rollerblades, so as not to disappoint the ones amongst us working our bums off on 'em. I would not like to have to carry 'em around after all that effort, nuh-uh.

To start off: Animazement (a smaller con in Durham, NC) is currently a 'No', as the hotel refused to permit a staff member to use her rollerblades this year, as she had in previous years. I'll mention it if this changes.

I was looking at a poster of him,and thought about it.To me its like maroon, but a little lighter than that, and what fabric would you all suggest for making his "windbreaker".And what is the white ruffly stuff called that are used for collars you see on jackets like that?

I know this question is a bit old, but I've been researching it... as my husband will be cosplaying Ikki and I"ll be doing Ringo... and I'm detail obsessive. I'll be glad to email anyone the reference images if they want them, the result of intense google work.

Its either a windbreaker in the plastic outside sense, or, its more of a track jacket of a softer material like a sweatshirt - I prefer the track jacket, because it will be easier to work with, and also the styling makes sense to me.

I've seen 3 variations on his jacket, one in the manga, one in the anime, and one in some of the art.

The manga version is definitly red, with both sleeves and body of the jacket the same color. The cuffs are also solid red, as is the collar and the waistband. 2 white lines run down the sleeves with a smaller red stripe between them. And of course the "rocks' logo on the back.

In the anime, the sleeves have cuffs that are white with a dark blue/black stripe band in the center, as well as the collar being white with two of the blue/black stripes. In addition, there is no logo on the back. Only one thick white stripe runs down the sleeves.

The art varient is from one of the stills of the anime - a 'pre commerical' cut image. and is identical to the regular anime version, but the stripe down the sleeves is an odd shade of yellow.

Also,
-Same with Ringo's hair colour. I personally prefer the brown because it's the original, but I've seen it done so many ways. I don't know the official colour of it.

There are two main colors for her hair: in the manga, she's brown (as evidenced by the cover art) and in the show its a magenta/maroon/purple/pink... but if you look at some of the figures (the jeans, backless shirt one comes to mind) then her hair is more red. I'd say that you go with whatever hair color you want based on which costume version you're doing...

So, my turn to ask questions:
Besides shrinkydinks... what is everyone doing for emblems?

I've found a place that does custom patches, but they have a minimum order of 50 patches per design. I know that the official emblems are metal pins, but that seems rather expensive. I was wondering if anyone had come up with solutions (or had venders to recomend), and if I were to do a set of, say, 5 patches: dogs, sleeping forest, skull saders, and 2 more, would anyone be willing to buy them so I don't end up with 48 extra patches? (theoretical purchase: theoretical price) I'd be selling them on ebay, and maybe in the artist alley at cons...

I've decided that for my ATs I'm going with skate skates, instead of roller blades. THey've got big wheels, and from the side I've only got 2 wheels... I found out last night this means pretty much relearning how to skate (rollerblades seem easier lol) but my roller derby skates are so much more comfortable than blades! I bought spandex today to make skate covers so they'll look more like Ringo's ATs... joy, boot covers and spandax ><

I'm planning on making an Akito/Agito costume myself (orange straightjacket FTW.)
Only, I have to save up about $700 first, because I'm going to buy some motorized skates and customise them myself, thus creating my own working Air Trecks.
I have the pants; I left dents in my refrigerator while spinning around because the hooks kept hitting it.
Be careful with the straps and hooks, if you do that costume.

Exactly where did you plan on buying these motorized skates? There is no motorized skate on the market that even somewhat resembles an air treck. The closest imitation is a gas scooter motor attached to the back of your leg.

Yeah I know. That why I plan on working on making my ATs now.(my dad said he'd help me with them). I'm trying to work on an other costume thats just as hard so so I have a year at lease.(I think there's a forum for ATs for one of the prop discussions.

I'm working on my Sleeping Forest Ringo costume, and ran into some problems with the goggles. I was wondering what other people have done (checked the costume search, found that people had just used 'anything goggle-like) or what people were planning to do.

The problem I've run into is twofold: the goggles look like they're snowboard-type, but all goggles in this category tend to not be two separate eye pieces - they're one big uni-eye. And when I find goggles that are two separate eyepieces, they aren't rectangular enough (swim goggles (http://cgi.ebay.com/NIKE-Swim-Goggles-recreation-HRDROSWIRL-Pink-clear-lens_W0QQitemZ270147223946QQihZ017QQcategoryZ74051 QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) meet the 2 piece test, but are all circular)... and of course nothing comes in the pink band, frame with yellow lenses variety, so I'm looking at painting...

Anyway, here's some links to the best I've found on ebay... anyone have any ideas on what I should do to get that 'as close as possible' look?

stefaniecat: Have you considered taking a pair and altering them? You can get some with too-big lenses, and assuming the lenses are plastic, trim them to the appropriate shape. Not quite sure to use as the lining, but you could use the center nosepiece and the strap from the originals. Those goggles are strangely shaped, and it would be very difficult to find an exact match.

I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to stuff like this, so I'd probably be beating myself in the face in your situation. It seems like a frustrating hunt. :mfg:

Stephaniecat: I heart you! I've been having quite a hard time looking for screenshots. ^^

I'm currently working on my first version of Simca. Someday I'd love to make her AT's but just them, no motor or fancy stuff like that. ^^;;

'Ello 'ello luvs, just a quick post before I head down to help my grandma with stuff (Im getting payed so that will help). I'm going to be yet another Akito/Agito though for walking around the con i'm going to be wearing my Air Walks (Called Demyx) though I do have an Idea for the Hooks on Akitos pants. If you've seen tripp pants it's easy to think of how it'll look. Basically I'll be getting
these (http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=cat3273&PRODID=prd49438) seeing as they look quite a bit like hooks on the pants but not as deadly. I'd then have four other hooks on the belt loops so the straps can hook onto them and not trip people. Not to mention it'd be very noisey. Thats all I can post for now. ^^;

Sounds doable to me. Get it big enough and you might no have to alter it much. Depends though on the big to small ration (aka shirt to you)

Edit: thought came to me on the way to work:
What if you took a big-ish shirt, removed the sleeves, and then added long ones? It would give you a more 'fitted' feel to the top part, but have the extra long sleeves...

Besides shrinkydinks... what is everyone doing for emblems?
><

Since its supposed to be metal wouldnt a print out be easier? They make sticker paper too *grin* (little voice in head)you could tag peoples bums!(/little voice in head)
A coat of seal on card stock would make a good prop, or an iron on with a good stiff backing. Or print the design and lay it on rolled out clay and trace with an exacto knife. I find that an easy way to copy designs into clay.

But I digress, I was just gonna ask if the emblems are colored or just metal color shiny? Not the stickers, I know those have color. The pins I see are colored but I dont think theyre supposed to be exact props, just merch. I have only seen screen shots so far ( I only read the manga).
If its colored then is it not metal? or enamled maybe?
