okay I have come to the problem..of the feathers on Yuna's dress..

Should I use....feathers..and put each one on
(mind you I'm using real feathers from birds :) )
or

Should I get a feather boa (s) and stick it on?

do you have any suggestions?

If you examine the dress closely, you may notice that all of the feathers appear to be straight and long, and extend straight forward from the hem of the dress. That seems to me to indicate that a boa, which is made from fluffy turkey flats all strung together in different directions, would not give the same look. It depends on how close to the game dress you want to look. If exact detail isn't one of your priorities, then a boa would work fine. If not, then you may want to look into individual feathers.

I'm actually taking the dress to a new height...I'm using a real wedding dress with beads and sparkly things on it. the wing are made from scratch... the wings curve right?
anyway..each feather..would be a good Idea? *ponders*

It's your personal choice. Individual feathers, stiffer than turkey flats (I'm using duck pointers) would give you a more accurate look. But if that isn't a priority for you, use whatever you think works best.

the feathers seem to be a good thing..all I know is that there stiff feathers....I hope I can dance with that on...for the skit.
ahhh...when are you wearing it?

It should be done by Anime Boston. I was going to enter it in the masq, but given the current Yuna backlash I may skip it and just wear it for photos instead (I've made the train detachable so that I can take it off and not have to worry about it getting stepped on, but it still doesn't make a very good hall costume).

i suggest u use some fine white and not short feathers and make sure to stick them evenly because they might fall..hehehe...it's better if you'll stick it one by one so that it'll look more likely of yuna's wed costume. :bouncer:

Hello!!! *.* Yay one of my favorite costumes of all time~~~ What I did was, I got some lace trimming, maybe 2 inch lace trimming, and sewed it around the bottom hem of the dress, then i glued the feathers using hot glue onto the lacing. This way you won't ruin your dress! and if you need to take the feathers off you can just take the lace off.. I found this VERY useful cause when i made the dress, after I had just finished putting the entire feather trim, somebody accidentaly spillled Coke all over the back of my dress O.o So I had to run it to the laundry REALLY fast, so I seamed ripped out the lace and it saved lots of time and effort! Okay hope that helps : ) Can't wait to see pictures! I would like to help more if you need!

Actually, at some places now and days you can buy feathers that are already on an edging so that you can sew them right on. I used them as accents on a dress for a friend of mine. We got them at a trim warehouse that was part of a silk market. However, you can find them at Hancock fabrics back in the wedding stuff.

If you watch the scene very carefully... In some of the shots (especially as she's approaching the altar), they appear more like boots (at least I think I can see lacing up the front). In some, they appear to be white shoes with knee-highs. If it's knee-highs, though, they're very thick, heavy knee-highs - in that closeup of the dress hem you posted, you can see that they stand away from her legs almost like leather, and not like most white knee-highs you can buy at the department store at all. I've seen cosplayers do both. I think it looks a lot classier as boots, so that's what I've chosen to go with.

Yea, I do agree it looks better with boots >< If they really are knee highs I dunno what they were thinking! hahahah, maybe they wanted to make a statement ><

I was gonna add something but I think Carolina covered everything, wohoo!! Best of luck to the dress, I'm sure you'll look stunning! It's such a classy design, luuuv it! And yes, I liked the boots more, too! Btw, I got mine on ebay, look up white go-go boots (or go go boots). They're not always on but keep checking back.

There are lots of unconsistancies that I can see from the doll to the accual scene. Like the bouquet [sp?] on the back of the wings. On the doll it's on the top. where as in the game's FMV sequence it is quite obviously in the middle of the wings:
http://www.driftingheart.net/yuna/multimedia/fmv/part2/fmv30.jpg

I accually agree more that it's knee high boots with a cut/hem around the ankle that makes it appear like heels and knee high stockings:
http://www.driftingheart.net/yuna/multimedia/fmv/part2/fmv11.jpg

However, that could be argued to the death... so it's personal preference on the boot/stocking thing.

yuna....where did you put the flowers? I was thinking not to put them on the wings....

Adella

I still think it's transluscent boots with a solid base to them. :\

Reiko

Aeris...would they be hard to find?

Reiko, the flowers on my wings were sewn on like the CG version of the wedding dress:
http://images.cosplay.com/showphoto.php?photo=8130&papass=&sort=1&thecat=3062

THe doll, which I just find WEIRD, has them on the top... I just *don't* get that because they are so obviously in the center in the CG. Maybe the plastic casters were on crack when they made it.

As for the boots, I don't think they are translusent. The viel, I believe, gives them that translucent look. I truely believe that they are white boots that have a hem/seem around the ankle. Since the shimmery viel gives them a strange look, people have take them for socks. That's just my opinion, make it how it suits you.

okay instead of boots...would the heels that wrap arounf your leg work?

Troppy
04-14-2003, 04:25 PM
okay I've watched the wedding scene a TON and have come to this conclusion. The boots are two TOTALLY different things between CG and ingame scenes. What tipped me off to that the outfits varied was when Yuna was wearing teardrop-shaped earrings in In-game footage and OBVIOUSLY had NO SUCH THING in FMV's, even in close-ups. I'm almost POSITIVE that, strange as it is, she has totally different footwear as well. Knee-high, solid boots during FMV's and shoes with stockings during the ingame. It sounds nuts that they'd change it so much, but if you watch, a LOT is different that doesn't make any sense... feather placement, etc...

I guess it's up to personal interpretation ^_^ I think the figurine is modeled more after ingame Yuna, so...nobody is going to crucify you either way...

AC moore...?

Reiko

I'm sure you can I dont see y not..

Koumori
09-28-2003, 10:34 PM
AC Moore is just a general craft store. I'm sure if you have a large craft store chain where you (like Michael's) you would be able to get plenty of feathers there. I like www.rainbowfeatherco.com in Vegas for bulk feathers.

As for the shoes, yes, they are different in the FMVs. I've seen cosplayers do it both ways, and I think that shoes with knee-high stockings look really.. cheap. I'd go with boots, even though it's very difficult to find lace-up knee-high boots with low heels. I haven't found any, and will probably compromise either by wearing high-heeled lace-up boots or low-heeled stretch boots without laces. It's VERY common in games for that kind of discrepancy to happen.

Reiko

Yeah I used white knee high boots... I think they worked out even though they were 2 sizes too big... maybe I can find a better pic of me and the boots
