I'm sure most of you have seen the pictures of this new character from FFX-2. Her costume is like Yuna's popstar outfit, cept her hair is longer and she's got beaded earrings. Not much is known about her, but I think she has to be related to Yuna in some way. Not like a relative, tho that is a possibility, but somehow there's a connection. For one they look alike somewhat and of course there's the outfit. I wonder if anyone's gonna cosplay her? Technically I could because I have her hair lol.

Maybe I'll borrow your popstar Yuna costume (if that's what you get) and turn into Ren when my hair is straightened for Tifa. ^_^

You should! ^_^ There's so many FF characters you could pull off. ::thinks of the pic you have of your hair in FF styles:: You're like the ultimate FF cosplayer lol

If you watch the music video they show "Ren" dancing to Koda Kumi, so perhaps Koda Kumi is Ren and Yuna has to take her place or soemthing. And did anyone else also notice the new Paine in the side of the pic??

Sana-chan
03-01-2003, 05:48 PM
Yeah lol Animal Trainer Paine or something?

SuthrnBelleChan
03-01-2003, 05:49 PM
LOL it could be something like Bard... hmm... a Bard with a pet birdie. Or GASP! CROCODILE HUNTER PAINE! lol sorry i'm in a goofy mood

crocidile hunter paine. XDD roooooooit matey.... that's so cool!!!!! XD a lot of people are saying it's pokemon like....but i think it's more like.....er.......they had some kinda skill like that in ffx. havent played in a long time though. LOL

LOL According to ffx2.com it's Monster Trainer Paine. (Pocket Monsters, I wonder?)

For some reason I can't watch ANY of the videos posted on ffx2.com. It's rather frustrating, but the game is coming out soon enough that I guess I can wait.

WOO! it's just popstar Yuna with long hair, PERFECT!!!

Something Lulu: Do you have DivX? That might be your problem if you don't have it.

Something Lulu
03-01-2003, 10:47 PM
I dunno what I have lol. I think I have an old version of DivX, but I've never used it before. I have Real Player and Windows Media Player. But when I click the thing it just loads forever, or a window exists (I don't want to say pops up, cuz it doesn't it just shows at the bottom) that says Can't Find File or whatever.

Hehehe, I watched the video and want to cosplay her too...I have the hair too. Anyone knows just how long it is? From what I've seen, there aren't much shots of her ^^;;

Something Lulu
03-02-2003, 12:10 AM
I just think it's cool that she doesn't have bangs! Too many game and anime characters have bangs, so I'm always on the lookout for those who don't.

Arashi
03-02-2003, 12:12 AM
Then that's perfect....I don't have bangs either because I hate them XD

Sana-chan
03-02-2003, 01:01 AM
Yeah she has no bangs! w00t! I think she looks really cool. And her earrings (I'm guessing that's what they are) are fun. I wonder tho why they're wearing the same outfit. Probably cuz of the class? Ya know, like gunner, theif, popstar lol. (shurg)

Arashi
03-02-2003, 02:39 AM
I thought those 'earrings' Ren wore were dreadlocks for some reason....I don't know why, maybe because Yuna has the beaded lock on her right side XD

Sana-chan
03-02-2003, 11:20 AM
Yuna's bead thing is her earrings ^^. I attached a, really crappy, scan lol.

What if someone dressed as Ren, but people who didn't know juss thought she was being Yuna with long hair and stuff? lol I dunno why, but I'm really curious to find out more about her character. People had some theories on the Yuna thread I think...

Arashi
03-02-2003, 03:28 PM
You know, I had that very same thought o___O;;;
I figured whenever the game came out in the US, I'd play through it and see what Ren's like first. But chances are, I'd probably end up cosplaying her anyway, hehehe ^^

yeah you should probably wait until you play the game, or at the very least, wait until the game comes out so someone can tell you about her. because you never know - she may be an evil crime lord who kills puppies with rusty nails and then eats their innards.

I think that I am going to cosplay Ren. She's just SOOO cool !! ^^ and afterall first I was thinking to cosplay Yuna Popstar, after my X and X-2 rikku, but since a new and cooler character has poped up, then I maybe should just do Ren's ^^ After all there is sure ALOT ALOT of people that are going to cosplay the main character Yuna ^^;;;

Isn't she just the in-game Koda Kumi? @_x

And "Monster Trainer" is probably like a Summoner alternative. They've got something akin to it in Dragon Quest... The Pop Star class is in those games too. ^_^;

I made a post about Ren in my livejournal lastnight, and this is one of the comments I got. Whether it's true or not, I don't know. ;P

"Ren is Koda Kumi's character, I beleive. She plays a small part within the whole Luca Concert, but I don't think she is a playable character to go with the party.

Heck - we know she isn't, unless Square haven't been levelling her up for the past few months in the screenshot...."

Anyway, I probably won't cosplay her simply because my hair could never get that long to begin with, and since I'm going to do the same outfit as Yuna, I don't see the point. ^^ But ohhh how I'm loving all of the different outfits in X-2... *goes cosplay-crazy*

Yuna-X2

*thinks* It's like Square was like "Lets make the cosplayers of the world something to love and adore us" and then made FFx2.

Well, so far there haven't been any characters in FF that eat puppies with rusty spoons while licking their own asses, so something tells me that Ren isn't very likely to do any of those things. (If I'm wrong about this please tell me. I'm not familiar with the earlier games, so for all I know there could be some puppy-eating ass-licking bad guys. omg that would be so weird @_@) And if she does turn out to be evil, an evil popstar might be kind of amusing. Actually, it would probably be *very* amusing. ^_^

While I agree that it's nice to know something about the character you're cosplaying, I also think it's fine to think about cosplaying them before finding out more information simply because you like their costume. On a related note, I also think it's okay to cosplay a character because you like their style, so for those who liked popstar Yuna's outfit but have long hair, Ren is a nice alternative.

Hehe... I was thinking of cosplaying Popstar Yuna before I saw Ren. I can prolly look more like Ren than Yuna, lol, so I'll cosplay her... whoever she is
I'm also taking advantage of the fact that she has long hair ^_^

You know, Square is willing to make their main characters who are supposed to be Sphere Hunting, looking for Tidus, and helping Spira get back on its feet do a freaking dance number for some freak who for whatever reason can't do it herself. I think that is the greatest degridation of Yuna's character that I have ever seen. So yeah, I think it is damn possible that Ren could be an ass licking puppy eater.

Lu, don't take that as a personal attack, I love ya babe.

::has brilliant idea:: I'm ognna cosplay that Paine outfit and do a crocodile hunter video! We did one way back when i went to this one concert on search of the elusive "MAHERC" lol Marc. He was a littel confused when we found ihm and wrestled him to the ground lol. He loved it thugh, that ho lol.

It;s funny that we're tlaking about square loving cosplayers hehe, i made a shirt yesterday and wrote "Square is my cosplay pimp" and wrote Final Fantasy x-2 on the back ^_^

Isn't Britney Spears evil.....maybe square saw Britney and designed Ren after her.....

I heard Britney and Christina Agullara(sp?) got together and ate puppies and licked their own asses...

This is an interesting character...since I know nothing about her, I do want to know more, but I must agree with Soshi on this.....wait and find out who she really is before jumping on the bandwagon. Dressing as Yuna and Rikku in their new costumes is one thing...but this someone we know nothing about.

Very good point. It is more than a little strange for Yuna to take the time out of a very busy schedule to perform in a concert, but I'm hoping there's a good reason for it. Like in Speed where they had to drive the bus so it wouldn't blow up. (That's a terrible analogy, but I just woke up and it's the first thing that popped into my mind, even though I never saw the movie lol.) I have high hopes for FFX-2, so I'm just hoping that they come up with a really good reason for the popstar class. (A much better reason than giving Yuna another cute outfit and bringing a famous Japanese singer into the mix.) As for Ren's supposed habits...in light of the "fact" that she's a singer (I put fact in quotes since there really aren't any facts about her just yet), I think it'd be more likely that she's a coke-snorting junkie than a puppy eater, but it's true, anything is possible. ^_^ Puppies could be the new form of hallucinogenic drugs on Spira. (LOL!)

[QUOTE]Lu, don't take that as a personal attack, I love ya babe. [QUOTE]

;) Don't worry, I'm not. And I'm not disagreeing with you. When pics of Paine first came out I decided that I might want to cosplay her based on her looks (since I'm not really very Yuna- or Rikku-ish), but I wasn't going to plan anything for it until I'd heard more about her and was sure I didn't hate her lol. As it is, I like what I've heard about her character but I still haven't started the costume yet. (Well, I've got the fabric, but it's the same fabric I'm using for Dita and Lulu so I would have had it anyway.) I kind of want to hear more about her history and her role in the game before I really start.

As for Ren, the idea for that came up after Sana said she might get a popstar Yuna costume. I think it's a cute outfit, but I can't see myself cosplaying Yuna, no matter how gorgeous some of her costumes are. I would cosplay Ren simply because I could wear it with my cousin (I almost cosplayed Asuka Jr for that reason lol) and she has a cool outfit, and we'd get cool pics (I'm a photographer at heart ^_^). But I'm not gonna run out and buy fabric until I decide it's something I really want to do. I totally see where you're coming from in that one should know more about the chara before deciding to cosplay it. I just think it's okay to get excited about it before then, because you can always change your mind and not make the costume. I almost wish her character would turn out to be some sort of ass-licking puppy eater now, because it would be so damn hilarious, don't you think? ^_^

I actually cosplayed as Ren...tons of pics are up in my gallery ^^; Yes I know the boots aren't right, but I hadn't seen the boots until I got back from the con, and yes I could hate her character. But, I didn't dress up for her character, I dressed up because I felt really inspired by the song and wanted a costume that was a part of that. Ren, just happened to sorta look like me, so that's what I did. The real Koda Kumi is next on my list. :-p

hmm! i hav a question about her skirt^_^

in the FMV it LOOKS a LOT lik its pleated...but in the Ren-illustration, its looks like its not. that it just has a jagged-hemline (kinda lik Kingdom Heart's Kairi's purple skirt!)

wht do u guys think?

Limeyaku
03-05-2003, 09:03 PM
im really badbad with sewing terminology so dunt mind me.

in the fmv i think ... the SKIRT isn't pleated, but the top hem is, which gives it a ripply effect.

in the art, the bottom hem is rippley-trimmed and there are seams sewn in all the way up, from the point of each ...ripple thing. all the way around...

does that make sense?

i think i'm just pleating the top hem so that it's ripply. it'll be more flowy n ... stuff. ^-^ plus, i'm too lazy to put all those REAL pleats/seams in. ehehe ^^;;

BUT! yes. the skirt IS see-through. ^^ bwuahaha *saves money for bikini shorts*

edit:: ive come to the conclusion that thread pages dont like me. -_- every time i post i end up the 1st on a new page, all alone! LOL >=D

Sana-chan
03-05-2003, 09:16 PM
I think the skirt is lace that just goes over the shorts.

Limeyaku
03-05-2003, 09:20 PM
actually, in the art, i thought that same thing exactly. but in the FMV it's obviously not lace anymore.

oh well, leaves more room for artistic preference, i suppose. ^_^ like wink said, it'll be great to see all the variations! ^0^

Sana-chan
03-05-2003, 09:32 PM
That's the frustrating thing lol it's different O_o. Argggg what to do what to do. I'm probably gonna go for FMV and ingame versions because that's what's seen more or something (shurg). I'm excited to see how everyone does it ^_^.

I may be late on thsi, but I beleive that it's the balck shorts Yuna normally wears with a pleated black Lace skirt with jagged edges. That's hwo it looks to me

*edit* i am going to pleate the skirt, because once you pleat the lace it will seem solid liek in my FMV. I think in the drawing they jsut accentuated that it's lace

heki-chan
03-05-2003, 11:49 PM
sooo...its not..kairi like??

bcuz my theory is that it mite not be pleated afterall. bcuz since the material is seethru, once a material gets pleated, it overlaps in a few sections, so in theory...it should look darker/less seethru in some areas, if it WAS pleated. but its not. its the same "degree-of-seethruness" all around
soo..maybe...its kinda lik kairis?

i dunno!!!!

I would think that with all these different interpretations, it would make the character a lot easier to make, just because you can't really be wrong. :D Well, can't be wrong until the game can confirm it. :P

Ina
03-06-2003, 05:51 PM
i think it's pleated, but not like ffx yuna's skirt, it's this different kind of pleat which i can't explain ^^;; i need to find a skirt somewhere online that has the same pleat and post it here *Searches* but i'm pretty sure it's pleated!!!

Sana-chan
03-18-2003, 07:37 AM
I'd just do it where it's the clip-on earrings. I have pierced ears, but even for my Yuna costume (cuz for that my beads were pretty heavy) I juss used clip-ons. It doesn't stretch out your ear hole or anything, tho after a while it does kinda get numb. lol Ah well.

The boots are really what's stumping me, they look kind of difficult. Those will probably be left as the last thing to do. 3 layers of boot-cover, probably?

As for the skirt, I thing lace would be hard to pleat.. but I'm not very sew-smart, so I could be wrong. Maybe just have a short pleated skirt underneath, and hand-sew the lace on so it pleats itself..? Hmm.

sara*lynn
03-31-2003, 10:39 AM
Oh, and just some info I was searching for, trying to figure out who Lenne is, sort of. Hope this helps! (I don't think any of these count as spoilers, I cut out anything that might constitute as a spoiler.)

* "First of all, the cast of FFX-2 has expanded to include two mysterious characters: a singer named Lenne, who has been described as Yuna's "alter ego,".." - RPG Gamer

* According to FFGON, the man that looks like Tidus is friends with Lenne, which is probably supposed to cause some bizarre confusion.

There are also rumours going around she's Yuna's 'wanna be twin sister' and another 'high summoner', but it's highly unlikely that'd be true. It's probably just going to be like an episode of Days of Our Lives, and the story revolves around Yuna and Lenne getting confused with eachother. Who the heck knows, but it doesn't seem like she's an antagonist character, or at least a mean puppy-eating one. =)

Ina
03-31-2003, 11:12 PM
i know that's the relationship of Yuna and Lenne, but i don't wanna post it here tho, those "spoiler" warnings does not work for me X_X i just go ahead and read it know that it's a spoiler ^^;;; er, that's how i know the relationship between them...lol.. just pm if you wanna know

> As for the skirt, I thing lace would be hard to pleat.. but I'm not very sew-smart, so I could be wrong. Maybe just have a short pleated skirt underneath, and hand-sew the lace on so it pleats itself..? Hmm.

Hehe! I know what you're talking about. I was just saying, if you were going to pleat the lace all the way down, it should be ontop of something. I've never sewn lace, but it has all those holes.. (I like talking about stuff I don't understand.)

I like the idea someone had before, of just pleating the top hem so it flows like that. That'd be the easiest.

I only read spoilers if someone's spoiled something for me ANYWAY, which happens often. n_n; I am the guilty party though, sometimes, we all give in.

What stumps me is that what ever happened to FFX International? I assume that they just changed it to be FFX-2 because they wanted some eye candy to have it sell more..what do you think??

Maryssa
04-28-2003, 11:17 PM
actually, i believe FFX International is the normal FFX with extras in it... mostly everything is much harder (and higher HP all around) and you dont have to follow specific sphere track thingies. My best friend has it. I dont think it has anything to do with X-2.

Heehee, I started on my own Renne costume last night. I figured out I had a ton of leftover fabric, so I went and made the sleeves. I'm going to alter a black skirt I already have (no pleats) and sew some black lace on it. I'll probably start the shirt sometime this week/weekend. And I have no clue about the boots XD

I already read some spoilers, and I like what I've read (about her background) and I do look like her, so I figured, why not? And I could probably wear the shirt or skirt out somewhere :D

Tenjou- You can be a cheater like me and juss do boot covers lol. I had no luck finding cheap tan leather boots that I could alter.

Tenjou
05-20-2003, 02:31 PM
I was thinking of doing a combination of paint and fabric... gluing some tan fabric on the top of the boots and do a zig-zag cut on the top of the boots, and paint the bottom maroon. I don't know how to do boot covers. ^^:;;;;

right now at this time boots go on supersupersales for lik 70% off and stuff (well..in canada is it anyway^_^;; )
my sister and i got both ours from the store she works at for i think...30cad? pretty good^0^ they're so cute^_^ (yeah they're not accurate at all, but they match the popstar look better than the illustration imho^_^)

so yeah,,,checking out outlet stores and stuff is worth a shot^_^

Upon closer inspection, Lenne does NOT wear earrings; the beads are braided into her hair. My friend Kelsie (aka Marle) was in my ACen FFX-2 group as Lenne, and had her hair professionally braided/beaded...

picture proof! XD

this picture shows her ears, and that the beads come from BEHIND.

http://www.animetheme.com/dl.htm?http://www.animetheme.com/ffx2/ffx2_1000_words07.jpg

this picture shows where the beads end and where the braids begin.

http://www.animetheme.com/dl.htm?http://www.animetheme.com/ffx2/ffx2_1000_words06.jpg

depending on how one places their hair, earrings would work anyway...but for the uber-accurate and all...

Caryn
05-24-2003, 03:17 PM
THANK YOU TROPPY!!! I was going to make the earrings today and you saved me from finding this out later and having to redo them *is the uber-perfectionist*

Hmm, now I just hafta find out how to braid these into my wig...maybe my hair salon would do it..?

BabiiYunie
05-24-2003, 04:07 PM
just braid the top part, then tie it up and sew beads threw it i guess o.o or u can make seperate braids n beads, and stick it to the wig lol

05-24-2003, 04:42 PM
Ack I have another question! What's the consensus on the colors here? In some pics, the trim/ruffle on the shirt looks white, and in others light blue...and the side skirt thingie looks like a light blue to me, too. Aaand, are the sleeves a slightly different color than the shirt, or is that just my imagination?

BabiiYunie
05-24-2003, 05:09 PM
I think the sleeves are the SLIGHTEST bit paler, or maybe it's just because of the fabric

Caryn
05-24-2003, 05:11 PM
Yeah that's what I thought, although it *could* just be cuz the sleeves are like a sheer/seethru-ey kinda fabric. I think you're right tho.

Arisa
05-26-2003, 01:45 PM
I'm doing Popstar Yuna, but the costume's the same, and my sister's doing Lenne, so..> ^^; Why not throw in my two cents?
The trim:
It seems to be light blue/light purple, sorta. What I'm doing is just attaching white ruffles and a light blue sideskirt. It works for me. **shrugs**

For the sleeves, I'm just using the same fabric that i used for the shirt. **shrugs**

For the skirt, I'm just tucking some lace into black biker shorts. ^_^ I tried sewing it, and it is HARD >_> Bleh.

Caryn
05-26-2003, 01:55 PM
I made the skirt BEFORE I found out about the lace and the curves on the bottom, so what I'm doing is just adding a lace trim to the bottom of the skirt XD It actually looks okay!

elfinder
05-26-2003, 04:33 PM
I am making a Singer Yuna/Lenne costume, I got black elastic for the arm straps. Does anyone have some tips on sewing them and keeping them from slipping down?

For my colours, I got a medium blue for the shirt and for the ruffles and side skirt, a light flowly blue. For the sleeves I got a lighter see through blue. The skirt is black lace, which i will pleat! ANd I got suede to make the boot covers!

Limeyaku
05-26-2003, 05:13 PM
gah!! i dont know where i posted my other one, but IMHO the tops of Lenne's earrings look lighter than her hair which leads myself to believe that they're made of hemp. its near impossible to braid that many beads onto braids that tight and clean, in reality, however, its perfectly possible to recreate the exact braided pattern with hemp necklaces. ^_^ it also seems suitable ( SPOILER ) given the time period Lenne existed in.

Caryn
05-26-2003, 05:22 PM
Yay elfinder, I'm glad to hear that cuz I got light blue ruffles that matched the material i have for the sideskirt and i was like freaking out lol ^^;; I got the *perfect* suede boots too, now I just have to modify them a bit!

And IMO it's just her hair braided, because of this pic that Troppy posted, it really looks like it's coming from behind her ear:

http://www.animetheme.com/dl.htm?http://www.animetheme.com/ffx2/ffx2_1000_words07.jpg

My friend used to do that to mai hair all the time ^^ So that's what I'm gonna do. It's good to see that everyone's interpreting the colors and earrings/hair braids differently, it makes for more creative variety! ^_^

BabiiYunie
05-27-2003, 10:05 AM
and, I have tried the braiding thing and it isnt hard, you take 3 pieces of hair, braid the first part of each one, join the unbraided parts up and add beads, it's actually quite simple o.o

I cosplayed as Lenne last month at ACen...my costume didn't turn out very good, but it was my first real cosplay costume and I had made it the weekend before the con, staying up all night sewing while my mom thought I was going insane ^^

Anyway, for the shirt and the sleeves I used a dark blue fabric and for the ruffles/half skirt thingy I used a light blue. And let me tell you from experience...making 6 feet of ruffles (that's how much I needed for the shirt) is VERY time consuming.

I'm planning on revamping the costume this summer...I'll actually make the skirt (for the con I just wore my short black skirt) and I'll fix the shirt and the half-skirt. And finish the bead strings.

lialia
06-26-2003, 11:27 AM
ok well im almost finished with my lenne and the only thing left is the ruffles...

im thinking about just folding up the huge amount of fabric i have sewing it on and then cutting the layers on but i was wondering how everyone else did theres first

heki-chan
06-27-2003, 03:27 AM
I did my sister and mine with three seperate layers:
1- the "curvey" toppest layer
2- the medium length layer that is folded into two-layers
3. the big longest 'rectangular' layer that goes between the two-layers of the #2 layer^_^

i was originally going to do what you just posted^, but I only did it this way bcuz i didnt have enuff material to use that method for two popstar outfits, so yep^_^

i think ur way would work perfectly tho (imho)

well the shirt looks ... kinda crappy :( for one its too long and big i swear last week it fit me like a glove :( and the riffles the first time i did em, i absolutely loved them, but then my mm interjected and whined that they didnt look enough like the picture that i needed them to be bigger, so i did it and i hate it *note to fellow cosplayers: if you love the way you did something but ur mom doesnt like it, just keep it the way it is the person you want to be happy with the costume is yourself* and the sideshirt is too heavy to be flowy, its not cause the fabric itself is too heavy, its that theres just too much of it :(

if i have the gumption tonight ill do a totally new one ~if~ cause i have to have this to wea for tomorrow ah well neways ill have piccies up after the picnic tomorow

btw heki-chan yours and your sisters popstars have been the best ive seen so far :)

Okay dokey...I have a question.

I'm working on redoing my Lenne costume and I have one big problem...the boots. How did you guys do them? Was anyone able to actually find boots like that or did you have to make covers? I'm probably going to take a pair of tan shoes I have, make boot covers, attach them to the shoe, and hope it doesn't look like crap. Any other ideas as to how to go around this?

Angelwing
07-07-2003, 08:45 PM
I'm working on this costume too. I manage to find boots off of E-bay that had a one-inch heel and were 15 inches high. It is just like Lenne's boots without the fancy stuff, but I just have to make a few alterations because the boots are an ivory color. I need to make them tan. (paint for leather?) The boots are three different colors if you want to go all out and do it like that. Once I get my pair in I was gonna find leather material in those colors, cut them in the proper shape and make and attempt to sew them onto the boot.. I really don't know if this will work, or if I will end up messing them up. I want to experiment a little and see if it does.

Ayana, try your method, and if it does look like crap try to find a pair of boots.

Sana-chan
07-11-2003, 01:06 PM
Ayana- I did Songstress Yuna, but since it's the same costume lol. My boots are juss boot covers attached to a regular pair of heels. All it is is fabric and then a leather or pleather or whatevery type fabric lol. Or you could just use regular fabric and get some interfacing. I dunno if any of this makes sense, I'm really bad at explaining things ><. But boot covers are the way to go methinks (nods nods).

Ayana
07-11-2003, 01:52 PM
Thanks for the suggestions. I'm probably going to just make covers, since a fabric store near me has suede in the colors I need for only about $5 a yard. My mom's going to help me so they should look okay.

By the way...cute Gunner Yuna, Sana-chan :)

Lenne
07-13-2003, 03:18 PM
Hi I'm Lenne. The japanese have it spelled Ren, but it's pronounced Lenne, ANYWAY. Lenne's 'earrings' are actually beaded hair extentions connected to the hair behind her ears. Because when you think of it, the earrings would be a little heavy on ears.

Her skirt has tiny pleats. with somewhat smoothed curved edges with what I call 'spanky-pants' underneath. yes...

Just wanted to get that cleared up. I'm cosplaying her at Anime Iowa 2003

Troppy - I actually found it on the website...it's at Hancock Fabrics (here's the link for what I found (http://www.hancockfabrics.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=6599&itemType=PRODUCT&RS=1&keyword=suede) ). Whether or not they actually have it at the store itself is another question all together. Being as before now I had no money I have yet to make my way over there. But according to the website they also have the lace needed for the skirts...here's the lace (http://www.hancockfabrics.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=6538&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=95&iSubCat=100&iProductID=6538). pretty cheap, too. I'm hoping to get over there in the next couple of days to (hopefully) buy the stuff.

edit 7.14.03

Okay Troppy, I just went to the Hancock Fabrics over by North Riverside Mall and they don't have the suede from the site. The only suede they do have there is $40 a yard, which I can't afford :mad: it didn't look that great, either. HOWEVER...they have the lace there, and it's only $3.99 a yard and it looks really nice. Hey, do you know if they have any suede at Jo Ann Fabrics in La Grange? If they don't I'm going to probably end up buying it online, which I don't really want to do -.-;

I just finished making the bead strings and will do the skirt as soon as I get off of here. Then all I need is the boots and I'm done :D

Her name is Lenne.
The Japanese PRONOUNCE IT as Ren.

But really, her name is Lenne.

Ayana
07-15-2003, 01:07 PM
In katakana, it's spelled 'Ren'. In Japanese, it's pronounced Ren. But her name is Lenne. If it was written as Lenne in Japanese, it'd be spelled 'Renne' and pronounced 'Ren-nah'. But it's not.

ANYWAY...

I've got my skirt and beads done, all that's left is armbands, the belt, and the boots. Damn suede is expensive. Progress pics are in my photo gallery.

Hey question, does anyone know what kind of fabric I can use for the sleeves of the Lenne costume? Since it has to be kind of see-through, I didn't know.

Lenne
07-19-2003, 12:04 PM
For the 'sleeves' I'm using this one fabric that's sheer and it is somewhat iridescent. It works perfectly and it flows nice. And for the holder things, I just got a yard of this one black rope kind of stuff. I'm using hollywood tape to hold the rope things up on the upper arms. >.o otherwise there would be no way those would stay up well enough.

Ayana
07-19-2003, 03:07 PM
For the sleeves I used the same fabric as I used for the ruffles and drape (a very thin slightly sheer white fabric) and dyed it blue. They didn't dye quite as dark as I'd hoped, but they still look very nice.

Angelwing
07-19-2003, 06:32 PM
I have a question.

There is that belt that Lenne wears. Does anybody know the color of it? I can't decide between a light blue or a more purplish color. I painted my belt light blue, then a few weeks later I repainted it a purplish color, and now I am thinking about changing the color again.

Need opinions..please

Angel Rinoa - I saw your pic of part of your Halloween costume, and I think that will do great for your Lenne sleeves. Although it doesn't look transparent it really doesn't absolutely have to be perfect. Use it!

It was Ren at first news of Lenne came out, but then more news came out and it was confirmed to be Lenne. I think they explain this better in the first few pages of this thread.

"Yuna and Tidus are like Lenne and Shuin reborn so to speak."

But they're not! *kills herself for spoiling herself on FFX-2.*

Tenjou

linainverse99~ I bought a regular kiddie play microphone in a discount store. Then I bought some acrylic paints and painted it. After, I attached a bouncy ball at the end and used some plastic to wrap around it, securing it there. The results were okay - I'm not completely satisfied with it though. You could always try to get it commissioned from someone.

Here is a picture of my microphone:

Angelwing
08-09-2003, 07:46 PM
I'm making my microphone entirely out of styrofoam. Then I am going to wrap it around with ribbon, and use some gold metal sorta of thing for the top of the microphone. It's hard to do it like this, but I am short on money.. :(

lainey
08-10-2003, 09:26 AM
how about the sleeves...?

how do u hold up the black straps? O_o

Ayana
08-10-2003, 11:09 AM
Black elastic ^^ That's what I did. And for the armbands I used black ribbons with elastic on them.

TristenCitrine
08-10-2003, 01:43 PM
I used navy blue lingere elastic for the sleeves and a thinner version in black for the "X" pattern. The key is not making it too tight. To keep them up, I secured the tops with a dab of latex.

lainey
08-10-2003, 04:44 PM
i just bought some double sided tape..
i hope that works O_o

Angelwing
08-10-2003, 09:16 PM
I used black elastic too. Like TC said, it is important not to make them too tight. The length of the black elastic depends on the size of your upper arm. I sewed the ends together, but it takes a while for me to get it with the same X pattern like the costume. But it works perfectly for me, and I am completely satisfied with the way it looks.

Heh, I could prolly draw up a rough pattern for how to put together the sideskirt in Photoshop, since it's such a pain to do...and yes, I completely eyeballed mine too ^^ My costume is complete, I just need to fix some of the armbands...they aren't working the way I want them too. Ayana
09-06-2003, 08:23 PM

Thanks! Though I always thought it was 4 layers. I don't know. It is really confusing. I'm not going to complete this till the game comes out, so then I'll be able to look at it more. I mean the CGs show everything, but their are still some parts of the side skirt that are unclear from just looking at all the CGs. Thanks again Ayana! That is going to help me with what I have already done.

I was looking at my printed out picture of Lenne (it was laying out for some reason), and realized something I'd missed before...the sidetrain is sheer. If you look carefully, you can see the outline of her leg through it, just like you can see the outline of her arms through the armwarmers.

Just figured I'd post this to let you all know ^^

Yuna
09-12-2003, 04:21 AM
The sidetrain is not only sheer, but it is gradiented. In fact, the entire trim is gradiented from white to a blue-grey; it starts up at the neck, then goes down to the end of the sidetrain. Some mistake it for light blue, when it is infact a white to blueish-gray, if you go by Nomura's artwork of her.

*Kinda... Spoilerish*

Also take into consideration that Lenne is dead and when she shows up ingame she's all pretty transparent. Not like... anyone can make themselves transparent lol, but yeah. So it'd make sense that aspects of her outfit would be like that.

Ayana
09-13-2003, 08:32 PM
Yeah I know about the gradient part, and right now I'm debating whether or not to actually do that since my costume's all put together...good thing though that the fabric I used for the armwarmers was the same I'd used for the ruffles and sidetrain, just dyed light blue ^^

Hey everyone!

Well, I have a big problem, I made the ruffles on the wrong side O_O do you think it's a bad thing? V_V

Angelwing
09-16-2003, 03:39 PM
well if you want to be accuarate then you might want to make it again. If not then go ahead and leave it. If it looks bad or awkard then redo it. If it took you a long time to do, and you don't want to redo it then don't do anything..hmm

Hey I'm going to cosplay as "Lenne" For anime Expo. What's weird though is that her b/f looks just like Tidus!!!

Ayana
10-20-2003, 07:25 PM
Whee, Ayana dyed her sidetrain and it's looking pretty cool!

Another picky little costume detail: This one's thanks to Troppy ^^ The armbands actually wrap all the way around her arms down to her wrist, we believe...you can actually see it through the armwarmers in a few pics.

Another thing of this thread is that in the beginning everyone was saying she didn't have bangs. If you actually study the hair you notice she does, they are just the longer and thinner. More of the sidesweep look that's popular now. Not the thicker bangs like most anime chars. Just a tiny detail.

Ayana
10-26-2003, 04:06 PM
She does have bangs, they just fall to around her mouth and are swept to the side.

My Lenne costume finally was worn to a con this weekend, I'm working on getting pics together ^_^

I'm going to be making a Lenne costume for my friend to hopefully take to a con on jan 30. its my first costume! but anyways, the coolest thing is that my friend looks EXACTLY like her! same color hair, same length, eyes, thin, long legs, and her hair is naturally board straight. i'm working on a pattern for the top. i'm using paper cut outs to figure out a pattern that will actually work. *crosses fingers*

about the beads... my friend and i are going to get some wire and hook it over her ear and attach the beads to that. that way it will come from behind her ears. i don't know if it will work or not, though. i'm having trouble finding a clip for her hair to keep them in, because her hair is long, straight and VERY thin. with the weight of the beads it would just slide right out of her hair!

but i shall find a solution!!!! JA!

That will work. ^_^ My beads attach by a clear elastic loop that goes around my ears. They stay on wonderfully, and my ears are very petite. You may even want to try making them earrings if that doesn't work.

I used chiffon for the sleeves and ruffles... but an opaque fabric might work better for the ruffles i think :)

i don't know what the material is called, but what i used is white and shiny and pretty thick. for the sleeves, though, i used a sheer blue. and the skirt part of the shirt i think i'm going to make a sheer white.

I have a question for everyone who has cosplayed Lenne... where'd you get a light blue belt?? I have been searching around with no luck to anything remotely light blue... >.<

Angelwing

I just got a belt similiar to the style and painted it using arcylic paint.

Phyrechan
01-19-2004, 04:11 PM
i went to hobby lobby and found a black craft belt and i'm going to paint it. it has no buckle, but i don't think its going to be that big a deal. remember: cosplay is a synonym of creativity!... or something.

Kairi G
01-20-2004, 08:18 PM
yeah i am in search of a belt as well, i think i will prolly find one and paint it tho. or find some light blue leather and make it myself, i found a buckle that is perfect for it at a local fabric store.

question, is her beads attached to her hair, or are they earrings like Yuna's? ive seen it done several ways, but i was wondering how it is in the game. if anyone has any screenshots that show it, they would be helpful.

On each side, she has 4 braids, and then the beads fit over the braids. Heres the best picture i can find that shows that.

about the belt: you can always make a belt cover. thats what i'm doing for the rikku i'm making. and the craft belt i got was only 4 bucks. ^^

its more comfortable to loop the beads over your ear with wire or plastic or something. as an earring it would be heavy.

Kairi G
01-23-2004, 06:08 PM
yeah the earring would be way too heavy, we will prolly make a loop thing.

also, if anyone is looking for boots to use for lenne
http://www.electriqueboutique.com/shop/proddetail.asp?id=2217-4-BR
i would suggest trying these, they also come in a light brownish tan, you will have to remove the fringe and add the second color, but it is a lot easier than making full covers, and these are not too expensive
by the way this site is the bestest site on the web for interesting shoes, they have got something for just about any cosplay.

Mira Twilight
01-23-2004, 07:42 PM
For the belt: Just find a simple belt that fits you, that's close to her design. All you have to do is go to a craft/art store and get light blue acrillic paint and carefully handpaint it. For the sealer: Just use hairspray. It's essentially the same ingredients as acrillic paint sealer, but much cheaper. I hope this helps, it's very easy to do.

is anyone out there interested in buying Lenne hair beads? me and Hailo are considering selling them, and i just wantedto assess if there was enough interest. i should hopefully have pics of them up in my gallery soon.

Kairi G
01-28-2004, 02:02 AM
ok we are going to sell the hair beads, they will be $12 a pair and only available til our bead supply runs out. they are made with 5 colors of pastel plastic beads. there are five strands of beads on each earring, and each string is between 8 and 10 inches long, varying lengths can be made on request. the strands are attached to a sturdy elastic hair tie, that has some give but not too much stretch, making it very comfortable on the ears. the earrings are not too heavy either allowing for long term wear. the colors and sizes are very accurate to the CG in the game. if you are interested in buying any from me and Hailo, please pm me and i will give you more details. pics will be in my gallery tomorrow probably.

01-29-2004, 01:22 PM
Ok since Kairi won't ask (she seems to know . . . but just in case), how did everyone attach their sideskirts? I'm at a loss for how to do it. Also everyone else's seems to flow so seemlessly into the top. One more thing, how many layers did everyone make? Seems like she has 4 in the game.

One more thing I noticed, Lenne's concept art, CG and in-game costumes are all different at some point. Isn't that really strange?

Angelwing
01-29-2004, 05:22 PM
I attached mine too the shirt, but not right along the heim because it seem to scrunch up in some areas so I attached a couple of inches above the heim line.

I made 4 layers which you can clearly see if you use scan Yuna in FFX-2.

If cosplay really was about 'looking like your character and making the costume perfect' she'd take the cake, in my opinion. xD

Get some fray check. They sell it at Wal-mart for like $2, it's really good, I'm using it on fabric for Popstar Rikku, which is shiny and also frays a lot.

Kairi G
03-08-2004, 03:28 PM
well now, me an hailo got different fabric,so its not a problem. the fray check would prolly not have been good on the fabric we had, because it has a tendancy to discolor satiny fabrics, and we wouldnt want that to happen! oh and good news everyone! we ordered our boots from www.electriqueboutique.com yesterday, and they are only 19.99 plus shipping. me and hailo are happy girls!

Hey guys! a word of warning to anyone who is gonna make their own ruffles for their lenne top....it is a major pain!! but i think worth it. try to get fabric that wont fray, and make sure the stich you use before gathering the ruffle is a fairly long stich. I made the ruffle/top layer of side skirt combination today for Hailo's Lenne, and it took two hours with all the gathering and difficulties along the way. it looks a lot more accurate than store bought ruffles, and the skirt is part of the ruffle as well, but it was quite difficult. oh well, it looks nice, now i just gotta attach the stuff (or make Hailo do it, hehe) so far this costume is coming along quite nicely, its just much harder than it originally seemed, but maybe thats because me and Hailo are crazy about detail and such. :P

lol also they sell gathering foots for sewing machines!! i just relized this while i was doing my chii dress lol but it should com in handy for this :) it makes all the gathers perfectly spaced and you get to pick how gathered it is by amount of stitchs per inch.

Kairi G
03-15-2004, 07:28 PM

About automatic ruffling/gathering feet.... just, no-no-no-no. I got one, and it officially destroyed the piece of scrap fabric I tested it on. And then it broke the needle and jammed the machine. Bitchy thing.

That Lenne cosplayer is certainly good 0_0 I just have issues with the boots and the color of the shirt ruffles. Aren't they... blue-grey? Not white?

Kairi G
03-28-2004, 02:16 PM
ahh now im confused about the ruffler thingy, i think ill just stick with my slow and painful method
and on the issue of color of ruffles, they are white, but in the concept are and some cg they are darker and somewhat greyish, personally i think they look better white. now the sideskirts are faded and the bottom layers are varying shades of gray.

Rinoa1022
03-28-2004, 02:25 PM
thats the thing i learned with the gathering foot, it depends on the fabric. if you have a strong high quality one itll work great! but certain types it just messes up. my friend used it and it ripped her fabric, but iv had no problems with it yet and have used it like 999999 times :)

wow that lenne cosplayer is awsome! her boots are so cute too!

Limeyaku
03-28-2004, 03:44 PM
about the colour, i wouldnt say they 'are' anything. because of all the differences ( blue-grey in art, white in some, gradient in others, purple in some, grey in others.. ) just pick what looks best with the rest of the material thats being used for the costume. ^_^ i wouldnt discriminate a cosplayer either, for using a certain tone or shade of purple cuz as far as im concerned there isn't a 'right' colour. ^_~ unless we can ask nomura. LOL

hailo
03-28-2004, 08:29 PM
nomura = spaz. i think he makes crazy outfits just to confuse cosplayers. afterall square loves their cosplayers so much they now make Tidus's pants as an official buyable piece of clothing . . . square is so strange. any way. that cosplayer was really good, and her boots were so mana-esque (ooo points for the esque). her hair is crazy too. grrrr. crazy japanese people.

it was funny though, i read an article in animerica not too long ago how most japanese cosplayers don't make their own costumes. isn't that weird? oh well. i have to go paint lace now for my lulu costumes. paint paint pain. *drowns in paint*

that's true. many of them buy tailored costumes, but even still, they are human-made. whether the maker or someone who paid for it is wearing it, an amazing costume is still an amazing costume, imo. if their costumes were factory-made and mass produced, available for purchase everywhere, THEN that's a different story.

on another note, anyone looking for a Lenne costume, I have mine up for auction with the help of my friend Heki! please take a look. ^_^

*SORRY TO SPAM* though this is the Lenne thread so it's still On topic. ^_^ I know there's also a lot of cosplayers who would love to cosplay but don't have the time or /say/ they dont have the ability, so here's their chance! ^-^

hailo
03-30-2004, 07:16 PM
i wasn't saying it was any different, it's just cosplay is a different story in japan. their costumes are much more controled and, well how to put this, shunned. you can only wear your costumes in certain areas. or so i've hear.

it's true, an amazing costume is still an amazing costume. i just thought it was a huge contrast from how cosplay is here in NA. it must be nice to be a proffesional costume maker in japan. just make cosplay costumes for a living. now that would be an awsome job. heh.

Kairi G
03-30-2004, 10:15 PM
anyways, back to lenne! cuz remember guys OURS ARENT TAILOR MADE! and people prolly are in need of some help and such. (sorry not trying to be mean) and lets stay away from the silly color argument like the Yuna thread got in to a while back. cuz the truth is that color is not consistent anywhere in the game, not because they want to annoy cosplayers, but because they were too damn lazy to program the same colors or even outfit details. Lenne/songstress is probably the best example of this, the costumes are completely different from concept art to cg to game play to battle. and so there is not one single design that is the right one, and if some people want white ruffles, thats ok, and if some people want blue gray, thats fine too. my opinion is that everyone should choose what they like best, or what suits them best. This is your costume now, not Tetsuya Nomuras anymore, and so you are allowed artistic licence even when you are going for accuracy. the most important thing to remember is that as cosplayers we must learn to take a design that was not meant to be made and for a character that practically no one on earth will look like, and make it fit to our bodies and give the impression of the character, in this case Lenne. so after that little rant, lets get back to some discussion of the actual costume and character please. im sure everyone has something that is helpful to contribute to all of our cosplay experiences. (once again, im not trying to be mean, i just dont want a string of posts like on the yuna thread where everyone was getting annoyed with each other over silly things like color and inaccuracies)

OK! My Lenne costumes is 95% done! All we have left to do is take in the skirt and wait for the Victoria Secret underwear to arrive. Hopefully it will get here on time! GRRR if it doesn't. I'm not too fond of my boots, but aside from that, I love this costume to pieces. Yay for crazy ruffles and being done! I'll get pictures up soon. Hopefully.

The back is a full back, not a halter. The ruffles go around the neck and then there are ruffles at the bottom. Hope this helps!

ah, we did use binding, instead of just turning the edge, and interfacing might help it keep its shape, but you would have to get black and a very light weight interfacing, and only use it around the waist band area.

for mine I put a zipper in the side that the side skirt covers (sense the shorts are attached to the skirt) with a dome to hide the zipper in a pleat.

As for the waist band part of it, I reinforced my pleats with a couple of stich lines to the shorts then I finished off the top with some bias tape to create the small waist band on her skirt.

Hey guys! a word of warning to anyone who is gonna make their own ruffles for their lenne top....it is a major pain!! but i think worth it. try to get fabric that wont fray, and make sure the stich you use before gathering the ruffle is a fairly long stich. :P
I made several strips of white fabric and weaved a needle through the fabric. Then I pulled it and it gave it that 'frill' look. ^.^ I already had a black skirt, so then I just made a pleated black lace skirt that button in the back and put it over my skirt.

I found that working the skirt/ruffle/whatever on the shirt from a half circle gave the fullness found in pictures. Hanging fabric straight down from the shirt will do just that... hang straight down, and will lack the layers and fullness. Unfortunately, the combination of movement and lack-of-gravity for either Songstress is pretty much impossible.. XD Starch could be used to make the flounce stand up, but I think you'd lose substantial movement and texture. Make sure you're WATCHING the garment in action, not just looking at still images. The movement of the fabric will help you find what you need and how to shape it.

*heh* "Meditate" on your processes. That's what I do... Hash it out in your head for a good long while before you cut anything. ^^ Especially if you're working without a pattern.

yes yes beverly is so right, i always try to get an idea of how a costume moves, because you can learn so much from it. lenne is definatly one of thost costumes you gotta watch how it moves.

yeah movement is a key aspect of costumes, sometimes you can get an a good idea of fabric choice from the way it flows and moves. and lenne's side skirt is definetly something you need to see it's movement to understand.
