I am in the process of making a costume for Edward Elric of Fullmetal alchemist. I am having some problems with the black coat that ed wears throughout the series though. Could anyone point me in the direction of a pattern that I could use to make the black coat? Any help would be appriciated

I would check simplicity, personally, to see if they have any. I don't have any specific patterns that come to mind, but I can go look for you, too.

That would be a wonderful thing for you to do. i went on the patterns ites and checked and there was a few that caught my eye that might work. i was just hoping that some here might give me some tips. Right now I am working on the red coat that ed wears... I am having some problems finding some reference pics for the back of the coat for the symbol placement. Know where I could get some images?

When I was fixing the rank on my Riza costume, I found a nice little site that has most of the cast with front and back shots like this.

@ sadakonhomyne:

This site is amazing.
It's a little overdone, but you can modify it to your own like easily. ;3

Hey, I used that won when I made the fingers for the hand I made. I made an arm, but my annoying mom took it over and made it overpriced, shitty looking, too heavy, and almost imposible to wear! I plan to make a new arm by myself with silver bristol board, and funfoam.

hmmm now if someone could point me in the direction of boots, that would be a wonderufl ting. I got the material for the coat (enouhg t make about two or three) and the main red coat is almost done.

I got my at Otakon. If you go to any cons they will probably have them there. If not ebay works well.

What material did you use for the coat.

The inner jacket is actually really easy to make. I didn't even need a pattern to make mine. It actually also depends on which inner jacket you intend on; the first one with the large zipper, the second one with the "invisible" zipper, the third with the collar plate, or the fourth one with the in-cut on the collar and no hold for closing it. Third jacket is the easiest, in my experience.

hmmm well I found some nice black denim for the fabric... I was thinking of making the third one that Ed wears. The problem that I am having is what to use for the little coller plate. It looks like it should be metal. But I have no idea wherre I could get a metal plate that would look like that. Or I could go the fabric route. But silver fabric, in my experiance, tends to look bad. Sigh. Maybe I should make the fourth one, witht he two buttons on the coller. Any suggestions for that one?
