Well, right now, not sure what our big group project will be for the masq, but here's what I'm thinking about:

Safety from Risky/Safety, Caterina Sforza from Trinity Blood, Nanami Ohtori Suit from Revolutionary Girl Utena, Julia from Castlevania, and Saber (armor dress version) from Fate/Stay Night.

Subject to change, of course.

I'm not sure if I'm going to AD 07 or not at this point. It kind of depends on whether I have the time, money and inclination to go this year and on what other cons I plan to go to. It's a nine hour drive for me if I do go and I might just decide to stick with cons closer to home next year with gas prices being what they are.

My first AD was in 2006 and i really enjoyed it! I plan on attending 2007....initially i was skeptical, cuz Chief Wombat stepped down...but either way, i think the new leadership will host a great convention in 2007!

Eh I was thinking about this today lol okay so here is my plan so far.

1. Reno (advent children)
2. Sephiroth (KH1 complete this time)
3. and my decision to be made either improving my zell costume (because the tattoo was just so awesome.) or Illuminati gackt (silver costume)

Started watching Karas again...(mainly cause I found the first U.S. release DVD for like...$5) and I'm now thinking of adding either Yurine or Nue to the list. Yurine would be nice since I haven't done a female costume for a while but Nue is just...well, he's Nue. And it gives me an excuse to make a giant plushie of his brother. ^.^

I'm most totally going! This will be my... fourth AD? Has it been that many years?! *counts on fingers* Geez.

I don't even know what -new- costumes I'll bring. I know I'll probably bring Aeris and Zelda...and possibly Quatre Raberba Winner from Gundam Wing, if my friends can come as the other pilots. Yeah, I'll have to decide that... but I have awhile to think. I'll probably end up finishing a new costume the night before the con anyway. ^_^

I am sooo going =^^= (will be my third year going). I'm actually gonna try to drag along more friends this time, too.

I definitely plan on doing Shalua Rui (Dirge of Cerberus) and Major Kusanagi (Ghost in the Shell:Stand Alone Complex). I know it says in my sig that I'm doing one or the other from Soul Cal 3, but it's actually kind of a toss-up. That is, I keep changing my mind... >_> So I'm not sure. I might just try to something comfy for the third day of the con :3

Yep! I'm going again! Second year for me! So freaking awesome.

I'm going as Urahara again this year because honestly, I don't know what else to go as. I'm thinking of going as Marron from Sorcerer Hunters, but that might wait until AD'08 the way I plan things. Besides, I  that costume. That and I was the only girl cosplaying him. :toothy:

Hurrdeehurr, stupid me :B When the opportunity to replace one costume with another comes up, what do I do? I just add it to the list >_>

So, yeah, anyway, if this wig deal goes through, then I'm definitely gonna be cosplaying Princess Neptune from Sailormoon (and perhaps Sailor Neptune, as well!)...

I don't know if I can pull off 4, maybe 5, costumes. Seems like an awful lot. 4, maybe...5? What am I, crazy!? Not only would I be running around changing constantly, but where am I gonna get the money!? *sigh* Guess I need to choose...

I'll be sporting my Tarutaru Paladin outfit that I made for AX06. :3

That's totally cool if you do Nanami, if you went in 2006 I was the Anthy with the Rose Bride Utena and I was planning on tuching up that costume, or doing a dulest version of Anthy- hey what can I say I'm obsessed with her. Other than that my plans include Sango from Inu-Yasha and Black Lady from Sailor Moon... maybe one or two more depending on time and money....

I'll be going definitely! I have such a long list of costumes I want to do, I have no idea where to even start at this point. Maybe I'll do Kimimaro from Naruto, but I really like hanging out with FMA cosplayers, so I could do Martel because that would be easy-ish and I'm probably going to try to do Mina from Breath of Fire 2 which is going to be fiendishly difficult and...

*catches breath*

More info later probably.

If I go to next year's AD it will probably be in the same costumes as this year's because I don't think I'll have anything new finished by then. I'm taking a break after my last con in November before starting anything new. Don't want to get costume burnout.

I'm going probably as Chi or Freya (Chobits) I have costumes for both. I'm working on a Tsunade (Naruto) and Misato (Evangelion). I know I'm going to finish Misato, my boyfriend is going to cosplay as Kaji.

If anyone would like a costume I have a few I don't wear anymore that I would like to give away for FREE. I have a red kimono, Ruby Moon (Card Captor Sakura), Rabbi~en~Rose (Digi Charat) and Vash (Trigun). All of them were made by me and my Grandma and need some repairs. They were made to fit me, I am girl and would fit up to a 40in chest. If anyone is interested please pm me.

Faith's Mistres -- Oooh, Kaleido Star cosplay! XD I was contemplating doing one of Sora's costumes (suddenly had the urge to do "flashy" stuff >_> me=weird). If I could just decide on one of them x_x

I found myself wanting to switch up my list, too (the only stuff I'd keep would be the Sailormoon costumes). I'll have to wait and see what happens. And by that I mean "what I have time and money for" :P

Well...
bet you can't guess who I'll be cosplaying as!!!!!!!!
J/k still probably going as riku... I have a few more of his costumes to "pull off"
after that... I dunno I might consider doing shinji ikari from evengelion or cloud from ac, but I dunno if I want to make that omni sword...
it would take alot of work.
But I am currently working on riku's "way to dawn" keyblade... that's already been over 20 hours and I'm only like 50% done with it... put it's looking great so far. I put up a progress pic of it if ya want to see. Other than that I'm re-making my organization coat and my riku vest to be virtually perfect! I can't wait to cosplay him again!!!! And the masquerade is going to rock next year!

So I hope to see you all at detour2k7!! Well except for hyperion, we'll all miss ya sora!

I will have a semi large FMA group. It will include Roy Mustang, Ed, Al and Black Hayate.

I will also be Blue form Wolf's Rain and possibly have a Toboe with me.

And then we will also have our MSR (Miniskirt Rangers) Uniforms..a group of 5 I believe.

And I will also most likely have my Tifa costume..and have an Aerith and possibly a few other characters with me.

Whether I bring all of them or not I do not know..but it's still months and months away.

Sophie (Howls' Moving Castle) So I can cosplay a girl and keep my natural hair color/length.

So far I am planning for my first AD cosplay, so we will most likely cross paths in KH attire.

I'm hoping I'll have time to make Obito, since at the moment I'm not too motivated to work on the Shinya costume...might save that for a different con..maybe Sogen or AI. You know who else would be awesome to have? Yondaime.

Working on a Tsunade right now for my sister. ^.^

Oh, and now have gotten a hold of the Sanzo costume I made a while back...including the (damn) 20 + foot long Maten sutra I made to go with it. So... current costumes are probably just Yuuki Cross and a random gothic lolita costume. I haven't actually started anything yet (I'm still recovering from Otakon...), but I plan on starting soon.

Last year I went with a group and we cordinated costumes (it took us forever to finally settle on Naruto, and now I'm so burnt out on ninjas... *sweatdrop*), so this year is more of a "this is what I'm doing, you can do whatever" year.

I wouldn't mind making a Sohryu too...but that hair is so insanely long, the wig would probably require most of my back account. Though I have to admit, while gathering the stuff for Kijin, I did find a ton of fabrics that I couldn't help but think "This would be awesome for Kurikara." ^.^;;

Glad at least one person will know the character/costume, since it is pretty obscure. ^.^ (oh...and I have a pic of a very rough drape of some of the fabrics uploaded. Wouldn't mind your opinion...trying to decide if I want to replace/change the gold obi fabric or not...)

Just took a look. I like it, but I almost feel you should go with something more matte and fabric you would see on a kimono...so something matte but with some gold thread worked into it...does that make sense?

I'm really impressed. The rough drape you have so far is gorgeous! I love the blue and the panel you have up front. I can't wait to see the finished product. Have you begun work on the wig or headpiece yet?

*soooo tempted to make a Sohryu costume now* I think I could get around the wig by buying the calf-length ones they have at Cosworx and then adding extensions to it.

Man, I have a closet full of costumes but apart from Wolfram, I don't really feel like bringing any of them to Detour. They've all been seen a million times over. Wolfram may get extra versions, I want to do his winter coat if I find white coatweight wool...maybe the desert coat too. But apart from that, I'm so tired of my costumes.

...not that they get any attention when I'm standing behind a table in Artist's Alley anyway. >_<

I suppose that gives me an opening to ask of the Detour-going folk in general. When you're wandering around the con, do you make a point of peeking in AA or do you avoid it period? Even if there might be cosplayers in there trapped behind a table? If nobody bothers to go into the room unless they're specifically looking for fanart, I could conceivably *gasp* leave my costumes at home. I'd feel naked, but it would solve my issue of not having anything new to show off.

Yep, that makes sense...was thinking about maybe changing the solid gold part into a dark blue maybe with some gold, since when I was looking at the manga last night it looks like a darker color, and I have a pale, shimmery gold for the random ties around the waist.

Right now I'm in the process of finding a decent blue wig I can alter (which Halloween should help) and have started the planning for the hat, though I'm debating if I want to use sculpy or metal for the decorative parts. Leaning more toward metal right now, even though I have all the sculpy stuff.

The costume itself isn't that difficult, it just has a lot of pieces. Last night I put together most of the outer kimono while watching the last two episodes of Project Runway, and I will say this now: the sleeves are going to be insanely huge. The blue reaches to about my knees and past my fingertips, and there's still the longer white sleeves. XD Note to self: Do not wear in dealer's room. But anyway, that'd be awesome if you had a Sohryu costume. ^.^ Looking at it, the headpiece is probably the most elaborate part, so I don't imagine it would be one of those really time consuming costumes.

I would head to cosworx.com or Amphigory to get a blue wig that you can style. Even with Halloween upon us so many decent wigs are few and far between. There is a wig shop by me on Lyndale and Lake St. that sells some party color wigs, but I've found online is always better. :)

Yea, I know most of the Halloween wigs are total crap, but I've gotten a few around this time that have been pretty good, like my Kakyo wig, which has survived cosplay use for about 3 years now. ^.^; There is one style I found on ebay that I really like, but I'm a little concerned of how good the quality is since the seller isn't very detailed about it. Might bid anyway since it's cheap and pretty accurate. Oh, and I think I have the hat pretty much all figured out now, just need to buy a couple more things to make it. ^.^

Posting a progress pic later in my album, if anyone cares.

Hi there,

this is only like my third post EVER but I really would appreciate any advice on an issue.

I really want to do Chi or Freya for AD 2007. I have a lot of experience doing victorian costume so corsets and ruffles are right up my alley.

there are two problems.....

1. I'm not all that sweet and innocent chi like in real life. should I try to match my personality to my character?

2. I'm afraid that every one is sick to death of chiis/freyas

So folks.... do you think either of these are valid?

(it'll be my second Anime Detour and I didn't dress last year so I am officially a n00b.)

The other one I really want to do is Rei's Plugsuit but I think I should tone up a bit before sticking myself in skin tight vinyl for all to see.

Argggg. Cosplay angst.

Thanks in Advance (if anyone replies that is ;)

Hi there,

this is only like my third post EVER but I really would appreciate any advice on an issue.

I really want to do Chi or Freya for AD 2007. I have a lot of experience doing victorian costume so corsets and ruffles are right up my alley.

I know for me personally I'd much rather see a Freya than Chi. (Chi scares me and I see her everywhere! ) But, what it really boils down to is which costume will you have more fun making and more fun wearing? I don't think you need to tone your personality to the character at all unless you're taking in-character photos or doing a masquerade.

Good luck with the final decision!

GREAT! I actually think freya might be a little more fun anyway. :) One of my friends has said she might want to do chii if I would be willing to do freya so maybe that'll happen. we really don't look anything alike at all (it'd be awsome if we did) but I think people would get the point anyway.

but who knows maybe I'll decide to do something COMPLETELY different. or I could do two. -gets excited at prospect of multiple costumes-

anyway THANKS TONS for the opinion!

The Chii and Freya cosplayers aren't as frequent as they used to be, so I don't think you'd have much of an issue of a billion other people having a similiar costume. Also, matching your personality to your characters isn't that big of a deal, at least to me. God knows I could never be as happy as Fai (from Tsubasa). ^.^

now then. if I am doing freya what dress do I do? ARGGG there's always another difficult decision to make. guess i'll see what fabric I can find then decide.

So I've been talking to everyone else Im planning on going to the con with and there have been massive costume revisions. So now I'm posting what I'm actually probably going to do for AD07.

Ready for it..... :)

Fuu (Samurai Champloo)
Jin or Mugen for my bud Matt he hasn't decided for sure yet. (also Samurai Champloo)

Izumi Curtis for Momma (FMA .... it's her favorite anime)
Sig Curtis for Daddio (FMA)
Winrey for me (so we can go as a FMA squadron or somethin')

Hopefully.....

either
Kino (kino's journey) or
Faye Valentine (yellow outfit looks cold so I"m thinkin' ball gown) or
Nausicaa (Nausicaa of the valley of the wind aka Warrior's of the Wind)

Depending on how much time I have left and what I feel like doing at the time :)

So that should keep me amused.:toothy:

I know you said you changed your mind, but to answer your questions anyway:

1. Very few people are actually like the characters they cosplay in real life. :) Think of cosplaying as being in a play or putting on a Halloween costume - you're pretending to be someone else.

2. Shouldn't matter if there are a thousand others of the same character. Yeah, it's fun for others to see variety, but you should cosplay whoever you want without worrying about what other people think. Plus it's really fun to run into other people cosplaying the same character as you, and meeting them. :D

Who knows if I'm running ahead of schedule on those costumes I may still try to squeeze out a chi or freya. But I'll probably hold off till next year so I can do a good job not a quick job. : )

Either way I appreciate the input and the advice. I'm such a noob. :toothy:

hitsugaya - bleach
Ulquiorra - bleach
kid - crono cross (just for the meet up)
maybe haku -naruto (if i decide to go to the meet up i will bring him)

well for sure i'm going to have 1 costume. 1. sailor moon!! lol. i might have 2 others. 2. a sailor fuku. and 3. a really wierd drawing i made of my own scout. sailor rainbow. lol. but then i have alot of sailors i made. but rainbow has the coolest skirt. lol. thats it. maybe. i'm trying to drag my friends along....but so far they aren't interested (maybe 1 is on board and 1 is half)

i just know i don't want to be all alone. lol. expecially with so much stuff i herd there is. being by yourself with tons of stuff is boring and lonely. so bottomline it sucks.

what are the most seen cosplays???

Turns out that I will be attending Anime Detour after all even though its nine hours away from me and Costume Con is the following weekend. :)

I'm still not sure what costumes I'll be bringing but very likely they will be the ones I had last year. (Sunao Fujimori (Sukisho), Hisoka Kurosaki (YnM) and Ryou Bakura (Yu-Gi-Oh) ) I might bring some costumes that I made at the end of this year or something new though. I'm not really planning on anything new for the first couple of conventions next year since I went to a couple of cons this fall and made some elaborate costumes for those but you never know.

Yeah, well, if I finish those Suikoden costumes over the winter, will that be incentive enough for you and khene to get a couple of your own done? :)

Guess I'll have to bring Sanzo now, after my spectacular failure last weekend at AUSA. All that work on the new parts and never got to wear it complete. Sigh.

I managed to forget the garment bag containing half of my costume pieces, including Sanzo's robe and black shirt, back here at home. I still managed to make several work, but Sanzo suffered majorly for it. I was planning to give him a rest (and maybe Kougaiji as well, depending on GreenFire's plans with Yaone) for Detour but since he didn't get to show off all pretty-like, I'll have to try to fit him in.

Paper fan against pistol? I like the odds in that fight. :D

We can but try though I can't speak for Khene. I'm looking into starting Aldo and maybe Chris soon if I can get the material. Aldo could be finished before Detour and possibly Chris as well depending on how much trouble her leather armor is. I'm holding off on Queen until Khene is ready to do Jaques. I wish I could say that I would have Hugo, Sarah or Prince done by then but those will take longer to do. Hugo has all that detail work, I'm still trying to work out the patterning of the upper part of Sarah's dress and Prince's battle costume is throwing me because of the open back though I do have an idea to fix that if it works out.

Hey, I may be a bit behind but, I just want to say Anime USA was awesome! It was my first con and it was definitely worth going to. I got to hug Crispin Freeman/"Tsume"!
Shout outs to:
Duo Maxwell! Both of you. I'm a big Gundam Wing fangirl and seeing both of you brought back so many memories.
To the girl from Revolutionary Girl who sat in line with me for the Crispin Freeman panel. Your costume was beautiful! Thanks for the company.
Lasty, to my dear Cheza. Seeing another Wolf's Rain cosplayer there was awesome. Toboe needed to see Cheza!
Anyway ya, going to Katsucon. Maybe you'll see me as Toboe from Wolf's Rain and/or as Catherine Bloom from Gundam Wing there.

Yeah, that'd be fun! Alphonse and Lust were like, my favorite characters in FMA. It's kind of funny that I haven't decided which one I want to cosplay as, considering they are complete opposites as characters. o.O I also loved Wrath though! So we must take pics together. :D

the marriot isnt too bad, location wise, its right across the parking lot. the only problem with that one is the price is higher then the others... makes me kinda sad but i would rather pay more and be closer then be farther away with a cheeper price. thats just how i look a it.

I'm curious if the entire hotel is book or just the rooms reserved by the Detour staff. I seem to remember that happening at one convention I went to (think it was at AI one year...) so it might be possible to still get a room there, just not with the rest of the convention rooms. Which is what I'm really hoping cause I totally haven't reserved one yet...^.^;;

(My, I feel like I'm coming back from the dead >.>...)

I do know the AD website says the hotel is full, and upon checking the forums, when someone tried to call a few months ago and neglected to ask for the person in charge of the AD block (or for the block itself), they were told the hotel was full...So, it might indeed be full....which sucks hardcore.

I didn't get to stay in the con hotel last year, either, so I'm really bummed about it. However, I can say that the Mariott is very nice, and the beds are exceptionally comfy compared to the Ramada ones ^^ (just my opinion, of course). Still, this year I was willing to sacrifice comfort for convenience, but unfortunately I just wasn't fast enough.

Now I'm just hoping we can get a room at the Mariott before they fill up (I hope such is not the case, but you never know)! While we didn't stay at the con hotel, it was really nice to be within walking distance...and the other hotels aren't (despite being cheaper)...

Serria
12-04-2006, 10:07 PM
Yeah, I checked, the Ramada is COMPLETELY booked. We even asked for non-Anime Detour block rooms. But I will be staying at the Mariott. x_x It's a little annoying, but after all it is only right across the parking lot. It would be more irritating to be down the street or whatever. And it sounds like this hotel is nicer than the Ramada, which I support.

Also, a LOT of people were calling in at the Ramada and had to be turned away, so there will be a lot of otaku at the Mariott too. :D So those who are staying there with me, we won't feel too out of place! I'm wondering though if maybe this means that Anime Detour can shoot for a bigger hotel next year? To be honest I wouldn't miss the Thunderbird at all. =P

Jen-neko
12-04-2006, 11:58 PM
I agree. First, the layout of the Thunderbird isn't the best, even if it is a decent size and it's close to the mall (my first year, I got lost so bad T_T I couldn't remember where anything was...except the videogame room..). Second, with the con growing exponentially like it is, I think it would be to their benefit to figure out a larger hotel in which more rooms can be booked (so it hopefully won't fill up even earlier next year, like, say, freaking September :P That would just be utterly sad).

I wouldn't mind a change of location. It's already a freaking 3-4 hour drive :P As long as it wasn't way far south, because that'd be a little inconvenient (part of why I haven't gone to Sogen...well, that and monies). Yes, being near the mall is nice, but the con is what's most important here, right?

Yeah, what I don't like about the Thunderbird is that everything feels spread out. There's no main gathering area, and the hallways around the art gallery and dealer's room is pretty small. It's also just... not the prettiest hotel. It'd be cool to have one all open and nice and roomy, but I guess we can't be picky. I've gone to Sogencon all.... will this be the fourth year? wow. And the amount that it has grown has been crazy. Last year was pretty crowded itself, and this year the hotel is already booked? I mean, that's great, I'm happy for that, but in the Thunderbird it'll just get really busy and crowded.

I wouldn't care about a change in location either, I'm already coming up from the Fargo-Moorhead area. So it's life 4-5 hours anyway. I'm sure there are bigger hotels in the city better suited for larger conventions.

(and actually I hear that Sogencon is moving to South Dakota now... yeesh! I'll still probably go, but man...)

Oh yeah, I remember! First year of Anime Detour was at the Mariott. They got a few more people than they expected I remember, and I also do recall hearing that people were too loud and obnoxious so the Mariott didn't want us anymore. I kind of liked that hotels because they had a nice huge hall that was kind of the center of everything, though now that I think about it, the hotel itself would be much too small to host AD now...

I think this is the last year they have a contract with the Thunderbird. (Apparently they're nice, but not an ideal setup.)
And the Marriott was kind of crowded as well--I heard it was because they got, like, 1000 at-the-door entrants.
And there's kind of a photomeeting place at the top of the open square spiral stairs by the lobby...

But the circular layout drives me nuts. I always get disoriented and walk around three sides before realizing I'm on the wrong floor.

...I kinda hated it when the con was at the Marriott. ^.^;; The layout of it just seemed horrible for a convention to me, the dealer's room was tiny, and I remember being trapped in an elevator more than once.

And I seem to remember hearing they had a contract with the Thunderbird through 2007, so they might move it to a new hotel next year, but it's hard to say.

As far as Sogen moving to SD, I have no problem with it since I live where they're moving it to...well, if I haven't left for college by then. ^.^ Which makes me happy because it's close by, cheaper for me, etc. But on the other hand...I know the local media will probably give it a lot of crap and I have no idea what the hotel they're hosting it at is like since it was built not too long ago, I think. But it looks pretty good, all things considered.

It seems that elevators always stop working at cons.

(They had to post a fire guard on the dealers' room the entire time at Marriott! And then eveything was on the main hall--except the consuite and the gaming rooms... it was an odd setup, but they DID have a really wide main hall.)

Hey, it'd be cool if we got a Final Fantasy gathering for pictures or something. Though I have no idea how many FF cosplayers to expect, I have the feeling that there will be a ton (which in my eyes is a very good thing!) I mean, myself, I'll be bringing Aeris Gainsborough, possibly a FF12 costume, possibly the Quistis costume that I made but is sort of a backup costume for all of my friends XD, and oh, who knows.

Definitely! Fran's my fav too :D Hence why I'm cosplaying her.

What will probably happen is we'll start more specific threads once we get closer to AD to discuss that but we should definitely have a FF photoshoot :D

AW! Thanks so much!!! ^___^; I can't wait to see your costumes either. ESPECIALLY Fran, oh my gosh.

If I cosplay a FF12 character, it'd probably be Ashe or Penelo? Though cross-playing is kind of fun. Unfortunetly the only character I'd really like to crossplay would be Vaan, but he has no shirt and so that'd be an all-round bad idea. I also like Balthier, I'm just not sure if I'd cosplay him/even be able to pull him off that well (I'm kind of short. Not like SHORT short but short enough to make me cosplaying tall boys kind of funny... like that time I cosplayed Squall, haha. I wore like six inch tall boots.)

:D awww... yay! :D (super excited now hehe)

I actually cosplay Penelo as well. I just put up pics in my gallery. Work in progress of course, I still have to finish the embroidery and her armour :D but it's closer! The hardest part is done

Balthier....OMG, if you did him that would be amazing!!! We need more luv for the guys lol :D

Yes! Now we have to do it...even if it's just us three XD.

Heh, a female Vaan would be very awkward indeed. It would be like, 'Hey, it's Va-Ah...vert your eyes, kiddies.' His costume has always reminded me of Aladdin. I didn't really like him until I started playing the game, to be honest.

I would love to see a Balthier. He is definitely my favorite character so far.

CloakedSchemer, your Penelo's looking great, and Serria your Aeris is wonderful.

I bet you could do a female Vaan if you had a very small chest, then taped the vest down and kept it taped down the entire time...

Not that I'm volunteering.

I'm working on Ashe--hopefully it'll turn out OK, since I've never made any kind of armor before.

Actually Vaan isn't too hard to pull off as a girl. I've seen them do it :D They just use skin-coloured binding and it actually works pretty well!

Might be able to do it before 2008..cause I just got accepted to the U of M - Twin Cities for fall of 2007 and my first choice college is just outside of Minneapolis, so if you live kinda in that area we could maybe work something else out so we could have better photo backgrounds besides hallways ^.^

I lived in ND for a while (as in around 10 years...^.^;;)...and yes, it is quite the con wasteland. I remember the days when my sister and I would drive like 10 hours to go to Anime Iowa, when it was originally in Cedar Rapids. Hmm, I'm not sure about when. I know last year I planned out the MOA gathering, but it interfered with the Naruto gathering X_x And I definitely don't wanna interfere with the masquerade. So, maybe in the evening on Friday, or mid-morning Saturday? Sunday just doesn't seem as good because I'm sure myself and others will be preoccupied with packing up and getting ready to leave. Plus I'll have a long drive ahead of me, so I may wanna leave earlier (like last year), especially if the weather takes a turn for the worse.

Just my thoughts...

I would make a sign! I bet a lot of people are lurking or just don't follow forum threads. :D We can get more interest in the site and make some more Midwest area friends.

I lurked here for about 2 years before I joined ^__^;

So...are we meeting at the Thunderbird??

That's what it sounds like...hey, we could all go to a late breakfast at the restaurant thingy and give the waitresses some entertainment. ^.^ Unless there's something else big going on at the same time...

There is always something going on even late night. There is a large area downstairs that will be set aside for lounge and photography back behind where the bar is. You can see it on the map here http://www.animedetour.com/images/map_tbird1.gif I will also be setting up a backdrop for pictures down there.

Question... where is the Thunderbird???? This will be my first time at this convention, so I'll be a little lost.. lol! Someone had BETTER make a sign, so I won't have to wander around aimlessly.. lol! Yay for pictures! I am trying to convince my boss to let me cover Anime Detour as a story so I could possibly get paid for the trip... *crosses fingers*.. so I might get to feature cosplay.com on CBS News in North Dakota!!! *does a happy dance* ^_^

If my boss gives me the okay, I wonder if he'll let me report as Yuna? hehehehe!

OHH cool! :D I want to see Anime Detour on TV! Not that I would, anyway... because I won't be watching TV all weekend, and when I get home I have a different news station.

I think they have directions on the Anime Detour website (www.animedetour.com) but the obvious landmark to the Thunderbird is the Mall of America. It's right next to that, basically. :D

This little meet-up is going to be Kick booty.

that would be extra awsome if it got news coverage too. I know I'd have been doing this stuff long ago if only I'd known it existed... great way to get the word out. Just show your boss the Yuna costume and I'm sure he'll approve :bigtu:

the Thunderbird is now no longer called the Thunderbird (FYI) so don't get confused if you here about he Ramada and the Thunderbird cause they're the same place . And yeah like sierra said it's right accross the street from MOA and IKEA so you can't miss it if you head toward the mall from the north.

Well, it's right near the Mall of America...

through the road construction.....

then again, they kinda post maps of it on the homepage, animedetour.com....

wouldn't be the first time that a con has been on the news... I don't remember which one, but a Japanese TV show did coverage on Project: A-Kon in texas. It's called something like the Mall of America Ramada now, isn't it? Though it will forever be the Thunderbird to me...even if the giant T is gone from the side of the building. (That is, if it is gone...I was in the Cities a couple months ago, and I seem to remember it being gone...)

Maybe someone should start a new thread and call it like "Cosplay.com photoshoot at AD" or something so people who don't keep up with this thread but still check the AD section can be in the know about this little meet up too.

I'm not sure about Anime conventions in this part of the states, but all of the conventions I've been to in California, about half of the convention population is press and news. LOL! I'm still not sure if my boss will let me cover the convention, but I talked to him again today, and he didn't give me a 'no', so that means 'yes!'... but then again, that's the kind of thinking that gets a lot of people in trouble in college... ^_^

I got to be an extra because my mom is really good friends with Adam Baldwin (Jayne) and the costume designer for Firefly/Serenity. I met the rest of the cast through a series of conventions and then on the set of Serenity. I was in a couple of scenes, but the two where you can see me really well are 1) When Simon and River are leaving the ship before River kicks butt and 2) The scene where River starts flipping out at the bar. That was filmed in two days, and I was only present for one of the days (during the first half of the fight).

how many people usually attend this convention?

Jen-neko
02-17-2007, 08:06 PM
Well, they have said they're capping registration at 3000. Ensign Minneapolis mentioned the numbers should be closer to 3200 this year. They already have well over 1500 people registered.

Basically, it's gonna be packed, and there's gonna be a lot of people turned away at the door because they didn't pre-register.

Oklahoma
02-17-2007, 10:29 PM
Last year there were 2500 and this year it is capped at 3000 due to fire code. And we will have 3000 as of Friday afternoon at the con. Also, YES we will be turning people away once we hit 3000. Just a side note at current rate of growth there should be ~3700 to 4000 people coming this year.

I'm a graphic design student, so that would be a "no" for me, hehe. :D

But still, a hotel built for an anime con...that's just awesome XD

So.... I'm doing Fuu for sure (already got the fabric and started). Now that I have all this kimono stuff I figure I should do another kimono wearin' person for a cosplay. and guess what one of my FAVORITE anime's ever is....

well it's the same as most people..... KENSHIN!

So now I can't decide. My friend is going as Kaoru so I want to either be Kenshin (crossplay.... I don't have too much boobs so it shouldn't be too hard
to look like a boy ; )
Tomoe
or Megumi.

I kind of perfer Tomoe to Megumi as a character but would anyone recognize Tomoe? Kenshin is of course my favorite but are there already way to many Kenshins?

Opinions please!

If we're building a hotel from Anime Detour, I demand that there are secret hallways and big paintings that you can look through the eyes and spy on people... >_>

also some cave trolls roaming around randomly. Eating the jerks who haven't showered in a week.

aka_spooky : I think if you are going with someone else who is cosplaying a more recognizeable Kenshin costume, like Kaoru, you'll be more recognized too. Though chances are more people will know who you are if you're a more popular character like Kenshin, you really should place priority in your favorite character. :) Besides you can always tell people that you're Tomoe, I would think that most Kenshin fans would have seen the Samurai X movies and would recall who that is after a little reminder.

EXCELLENT IDEA imho. :bigtu: There should also be huge theme rooms with like lanscapes or dojos or whatever for photoshoots. No simple backdrops at this custom convention.... and these rooms should be placed all over the con so at anytime when someone needs a picture you just duck into one of the rooms and pose away.

also...

Thanks for the opinion on the kenshin thing too. I think it's between Tomoe and Kenshin. Just have to asses what I'd need and how I could get it in time and see what happens :toothy:

and we'll have a space room with an antigravity chamber and people can take pictures while floating... it's madness I tell you! This will all be apart of my hotel oblivion that I'm building for anime detour 2k10
