This is just a general question I have; how many of you support local bands?

I've been kinda curious cuz alot of them are REALLY good and I wonder if it's better they just stay local and avoid all the mass-media hoopla.

Coffee shops seem to be great places for local Jazz bands fyi. ;)

^_^ we've got alot of local bands around here that are kickass. some people might know because they went on the warped tour (One Year Nothing). but we've got a local band, Blind Identity, that i dont even know why they dont go national/international.

My university hosts local bands once a week at noon. I usually go out and check them out. They're so fun, some of them have weird little gimmicks heh =P

It's really amazing how much talent there is tho; *nod, nods*

Ahhhhhh, of course! The local scene is my zone. We don't have much of a punk scene though. Our main handle around here is pretty much hardcore and screamo (really good stuff too, you can find most of it on mp3.com) :D.

Blah, but we seem to have a massive idiotic scene of....lack of a better term - pop-punk too. (I hate that term). Weird, you never see much of a local metal scene anywhere. .:shrugs:.

Heh, it's pretty funny. We have this band from around here called Stray From The Path, and one of their songs has a breakdown that's the little bass tune from Seinfeld LOL :D, they fit the weirdest and most random shit into their music too :)

YES! Yay for Local bands!!

^_^

I happen to be a roadie for a local pop punk band called Showcase. Pretty fun stuff, and alot of people in the scene are pretty awesome. The bands are great.

I'm an old school supporter of Good Charlotte when they used to be a local band around here (Naptown, Waldorf), but after they went big, they forgot what the scene has done for them and totally diss on it.

Edit: And I just definitly noticed that alot of people on here don't like Pop Punk....

Yep. One the cd store sin my local mall sells local bands cds for decent prices under $12. My old college's radio station sometimes gets stuff from local bands too.

A friend of mine is in a punk rock band up in NYC called Dead On A Friday. He gave my friend and I his demo cds and they sound good! Here's the website:

jersey has a pretty nice underground scene, and once I feel more comfortable driving I can finally hit more than 3 shows a year :)

Yeah! Rock the local scene! That's how Evanesence got big! I 'm not really a fan of theirs, but I am proud of a band from Arkansas getting that much attention!

local and independant bands are in a league of their own. And the good ones that i have heard could blow most of the popular bands off the stage.
im all for them

Very true, Jersey has a crazy underground scene, and Jersey kids don't fuck around in the pit either lol. You guys got Floorpunch, Ensign, and Tear It Up :(

Oh well, New York's coming in at a close second~! :D

In my own state, there aren't many that are outstanding, but in Massachusetts... *_*

I listen to New England Product on the FNX Radio Network every Sunday, and they have local bands for about two hours. They give away free CDs every so often, and I have gotten three (Tootsie, Quickfix, Brett Rosenberg Problem). I've heard bands that I'd never even would hear otherwise, like Kicked in the Head (got their CD for a dollar at a record store since no one had ever heard of them XP). And it's cool to see local bands be put on major labels or major projects or get some pop airplay. Like Hot Rod Circuit -- I almost died when I saw Melissa in the Real World/Road Rules challenge this year on MTV wearing their shirt. They also got put on a good label (Vagrant, I'm pretty sure) and it's just cool! *____* (HRC is from Connecticut by the way) There was someone from New England that was put on the Spiderman soundtrack as well, but I don't remember whom exactly.

^^; geez I wrote a lot.

I'm all about supporting local bands, if they are good. At my university the school will bring let the local bands play or they will play at Faternity parties. Before they shut down many of the clubs and raised the age in which you had to be to go into the club every Thursday-Saturday night a different local band would play.
I listen to many local bands, but there is one local band I guess you would call a "fan" of called Jessica's Mistake. They are so awsome!

we have many support worthy bands in so cal that are better then alot of the big bands out there. It's weird though, when someone you knew from school or work is suddenly on tour. Very cool though.

I support those who make music I like in my community...

The Project 51 (I've actually named one of their songs... 'Impact Blue' (inspired by Initial D))

Kid Menace (Sometimes I think She's An Ape, is my fave song!)
