I got the moive today as a belated b-day present. I watched it and I was like
 Whoa....Its not horrible, just very odd and very .... odd. I don't recomend buying it. Its better if you d/l from the Internent. Just so don't say that was a waste of money. :D

I liked it. It was odd, but I still liked it. I thought that part where Utena and Anthy are dancing in the rose garden was absolutely gorgeous. *_*

Yeah it's pretty odd. Especially with part with chuchu and that thing with the string on its belly, and Nanomi (Sp?) That was pointless.

I love this movie, you definitely have to watch it more than once to catch everything that's going on. I reccomend the higher quality dvd version though, it's just so visually stunning that way.
Almost the entire film is told through it's symbolism, and not it's words. It's far from conventional, it wraps you up in it's world and you leave with a dizzy feeling in your head.
Reichan, that is such a beautiful scene! I like the intro too, and the duel with Juri. The music rocks too...ok, I need to stop ranting about this!

Oh yeah, all that stuff is great! I love the part with Touga and the water too. It makes a lot more sense the second time, honestly. The second time I actually understood what was going on, although I still don't fully understand what the cars have to do with anything. Are they supposed to be symbolic of something or are they just a vehicle for escape? I dunno..

I don't know. I think it's open to your own interpretation. I thought they meant independence and freedom. I love everything surrounding Touga's storyline, he's such much better than series Touga.

moving to anime talk.

Hm... as much as I loved the Black Rose part of the Utena series and my Utena mangas, the movie didn't really grow on me.
That is, I liked it until the carwash scene (well if you skip cow-nanami) because it was lovely and lyrical until then. Sadly, it migrated into a weird and psychedelic hallucination which was, imo, unnecessary and pointless.
(Read the manga for the same point made a lot more elegantly)
I don't think Utena is nearly as deep as people portay it to be. Even the director when he was asked about the car said "I just wanted people to turn into cars because it's cool".
I have a feeling my anime tastes are far removed from most people's... but if you want something /deep/, get Gasaraki. It might not be pretty and have girly rose-petals falling from the sky, but it definitely has something to say.
Speaking of stunning visuals, I simply /adore/ the music video done to Bjork's Bachelorette with Utena movie moments. *____* If you haven't seen it you should download it!

Yup, I watched the car scene and the nanami cow scene with the director's commentary on. The cow thing was just comic relief, but I thought it was just trippy. I actually like her character. *ducks flying objects*
Another great amv for it is to Enigma's "Gravity of Love", I play both of those every time I watch music videos.
Ooh, I love the black rose saga *points to username* Kuro Bara = Black Rose ^_~ I stalked a Mikage cosplayer at Otakon, it takes a real man to wear pink hair.

I really didn't like Gasaraki. Somehow it seemed like a dull imitation of Evangelion to me. Actually it literally put me to sleep when I watched it. >.> But that's just me..

Yeah I agree that the movie is kinda special in its own way. The music was awesome too, especially the duel with Juri. I just lost interest with the movie with the Nanami cow and people turning into cars to go to the "outside world". I thought the outside world is like life. That you got to make your choices and stuff. But hey thats just meh.
