Most sought-after wig styles?

I want to start offering wig commissions here-and-there, but it's a little hard as since I don't really have much of a "portfolio" of work. ^^; So I was thinking about styling a few wigs for my gallery and then selling them here and/or on eBay. But I want to make sure I do some character styles that people are interested in. You know...things people will actually buy. So if anyone can give me an opinion on what some of the most demanded styles are, that would be most helpful. ^___^

Any main character from a popular series should probably work. Like Naruto, Bleach, FMA, Final Fantasy, and Kingdom Hearts. The more difficult the hair style, the more likely people will be looking to buy it premade. You'll definitely want to do at least one wig that demonstrates your spiky/gravity defying styling ability.

Another route to go to build your portfolio could be to offer a commission or two at a discounted price (aka. the cost of materials plus a small fee for yourself). That way, you're at least guaranteed to have the cost of materials covered rather than risk not being able to sell a wig you had to pay for.

I would LOVE to buy a hard to style character's wig... Like.. Sora or Roxas from Kingdom Hearts. ^-^

Definitely wigs of series that are popular with the younger/impatient crowd who cannot or have no interest in creating their own. Also, extremely recent releases would probably go over well; FFXIII, for example.

Definately Sora, Roxas, Axel, Cloud, just about anything with a spikey style is popular and sought after. Any popular animes like the ones Lilypad mentioned too.

I put some Axel wig commissions up on ebay and they sold. It was my first commission too. I also had people who didnt win the auction to have a wig made.


I'm doing commissions right now as a side project, much like you are. All you really need to do is get some pictures of your work out there and make yourself heard. As a suggestion, post in the "Commissioners on Cosplay.com" thread. ^.^

I would suggest Chii.
A lot of people cosplay as her and it's hard to find a good wig.
If you can make one well then you'll have a lot of people asking for it
