For my school our homecomming week is in 2 weeks and we have: Decades Day, Character Day, Twin Day, Rockstar Day, and Spirit Day. And in a sense, Character day reminded me much of cosplaying. Then I wondered if anyone ever made their homecomming week costime, or wore a cosplay there. Or were you ever motivated to cosplay after homecomming week. Talk about any good Homecomming week/cosplaying experiences!

Hee, I cosplayed Rinoa on one of my homecoming days. Several people really liked it last year, so I think I'll do it again in November :).

Angathol- Really? No homecoming? I need to move to Canada...
I hate homecoming. I hate all school dances, really. Always held in the cafeteria or gym, they play crappy music, and I really can't stand most of the people at my school anyways. I never attend the homecoming game, either.
Needless to say, I haven't been to one in years :toothy:
...spirit week is ok because some people in my school go all out and come up with some pretty awesome costume ideas XD
I've never really participated, but my friend came to school as Link on superhero day! (last year)

Homecoming Week is a week in which the students are given a theme for all five days of the school week and told to dress up if they wish to show school spirit. It's fun because at least half the school dresses up and you don't feel half as silly as you would on a regular day :D.

Sounds like fun :o *Also Canadian*
Oh well, I didn't cosplay when I was in High School anyway

I'm American, and I barely understand it myself. But here's the Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homecoming#United_States).
Unfortunately, neither of the two high schools I attended (I moved before I graduated) had a "character day", and I wouldn't have been able to participate because Blue Mary (which violates most any school dress code) was all I had at the time.

I always hated homecoming.
The closest I got was wearing a ridiculous silver sequined dress, evening gloves, and a plastic jeweled tiara to my homecoming dance one year, because I had decided that I was going to be the Homecoming Queen despite the fact that I
a) hadn't been in the running
b) was not popular
c) hated homecoming
d) wasn't a senior.
But one year for Dress Down Day (we had uniforms) I wore the most ghetto Lina Inverse costume ever.

I always yanked stuff from my costume closet when it came time for home coming. And Halloween. We always had super hero day, where for the first three years I was Saint Tail and the last year Boogiepop.
Because they're super heroes. Really.
But in Boogiepop, I got to make a sign that said "My cape owns yours." Because it did. Since it wasn't made of a towel.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend it. Homecoming, at least for me, was a very nice formal occation, until it ended and we all went out afterwards. That night is a pretty big blur at this point. Point is, homecoming is a pretty good milestone in your high school career and undue celebration might cause unwanted damage to whatever you make.
But, that's just me. It's up to you in the long run.
Edit: WTF am I talking about, I drink in cosplay all the time.
Disregard, I suck cox.

At least "dress down day" for your school made sense. One of mine had that, but meanwhile we didn't have uniforms, and the school didn't have that formal a dress code to begin with. Waste of a day that (to stay on topic) I guess could've otherwise been "character day", "cartoon day", "super hero day", or something like that.

Homecoming is a time, usually in the fall, during the school year where alumni come "home." Both high schools and colleges do this (most of them). It is usually in connection with an event like a football game and banquets/dances. Some college and towns have parades. It all depends on the town, school, and/or college and their traditions.
Lots of high schools have theme days during the week. If there is a character day I think it would be awesome to dress in cosplay for the day. If I did cosplay while in high school I probably would have done that if I could during "Spirit Week."
In my experiences, high school homecoming is dumb. College homecoming is awesome. I can't wait for homecoming this year. I get to see all my old friends (I'm an alum now).

Our school had a bunch of things, but it all died down. I don think they had a spirit week my senior year. The school seriously LACKED.
I wanted to dress up funny too ;-; I got into cosplaying after they decided to not do spirit week but for halloween I went as a hottopic gothic lolita XD i got stared at. Twas fun.

Spirit Week is just about to start in my school as well. I've never participated much before, but this thread suddenly makes me want to incorperate cosplay into it somehow. Unfortunately, I don't think I have any costumes that I would dare wear to school, haha, and it's a bit late to make one.
I don't really have anything cosplay wise for homecoming either, although I almost made Wallmarket Aeris once. *sigh* Oh well. I usually hate school dances anyways. Our school is particularly horrible at hosting them, in my opinion.

If we had a costume/character day I would so cosplay. But unfortunately we don't. I guess the only day I can dress up during school is Halloween.
My school isn't good at hosting dances either.

I was pretty limited during my school spirit weeks, considering it was an ultra small private school. However, Freshman year I did wear my Kikyou costume for international day. I dont believe I was given any other oppertunities however over the next three years.

Oh man, I LOVED spirit week in high school. It was my favorite week of the entire year. XD I always went all-out. Junior year Halloween was during spirit week, which is when I first made my Temari costume. :3 Senior year I was Hermione from Harry Potter. We always had stuff for the rest of the days like sports day (wear your powder puff jersey if you're a junior or senior girl), one time we had a decade day (we got 80's X3), and..one of my favorites...clash day. XD Clash day was always epic. My friend wore half her Zelos costume for that one year...

Usually I hated homecoming week but my sister came home today (she's 3 years younger than me and going to my old HS) and informed me that they had a pirate vs ninja day this week. *MUCH envy*

I loved Spirit Week; hated the football and stuff -_-;;; Sports are my thing... But I did cosplay as (a really ghetto) Great Saiyaman for Dress As Your favorite Character Day (though most people went as characters from movies and books). I had to carry around a magazine cuz no one knew who I was supposed to be lol ^^

Just this last Thursday was "pirate day" and the day of the first anime/manga club meeting. (I finally made one!)
I was VERY tempted to go as Luffy. But I didn't have any clothes that resembled his... D:

Spirit week starts next week for me.
Nothing really struck my interest except Rock Star day 'cause I went around being a really ghetto MisaMisa a couple weeks ago, and it kind of looked like a rock star-ish outfit.
And we get a random Guitar Hero tournament at lunch.
(Never played, but it looks like fun to watch xD)

@ Kotoumi - My school didnt let us do that ( Guitar Hero) or any video game for that matter. (envious)
I only cosplayed but it wasnt a japanese character is was Bloom from Winx club I had the bunny and everything the funny thing was it was the same day as College day and this was my Senior year and once we did pajama day (11th grade) on College day. I was fun the only time I attended a football game was in 12th grade and that was for choir only.

I know for a fact that our HC theme is "Movie Genres". Seniors get fantasy, as in Final FANTASY? I'm definately planning to wear my Tifa cosplay to school. xD
It's in 2 weeks, but I'm still excited to wear it~

Our spirit week is actually coming up too, but we don't have a character day just stupid CAMO DAY!!!! OMG! I really hate homecoming (we haven't won a football game in fours years) and the dance is just a stupid cheap way for kids to grind to rap.
I think I would cosplay though if they did have a day for it, maybe I'll suggest it for next year. ^^

Our school actually just finished their homecoming week/weekend. I went to the pep rally and did the freshmen lip synch (our theme was Robin Hood and my friends and I did a dance to 'Sherwood Forest Rap'), marched in the homecoming parade, built parts of the freshmen float, played drums at the homecoming football game and went to the dance. Overall, it was mega fun. (:
As for dressing up - we had sports day, twin/trio day, tacky day, theme day (where you're supposed to dress up like whatever your theme was), and Cherry/Grey day (because that's our school colors). No oppertunites to cosplay then, buuuuut, I'm pretty sure we get to dress up on Halloween.
We haven't had ours yet, I'm not even sure when it is. >o<
Anyway, last year we had a Dress Like Your Favorite Character Day and I went to school as purple link, the wig, ears, boots- everything. The best part was that 6/8 teachers knew exactly who I was.
But this year, two buddies and myself are going to go as Ed, Edd, and Eddy, but if that doesn't work out, (I need to find us an Edd) I'll be going as Anne-Marie. Let's see how many people know who I am then.

Our school has yet to do the homecoming week,a dn they refuse to tell us... this makes me sad.
I love spirit week! Last year we were supposed to dress as a TV or movie character one day, I threw together a Kabuto (naruto) cosplay. I didn't feel that lonely since we had a Gaara there too! XD

I don't know about any of the spirit days for my school yet except pirate day (forget that - I'm dressing as a ninja >D) but even if we did have cool ones like "charecter day" and such no one would dress up. The kids in my school would sit on their tractors spit out their tobacco and shake a burning lower case t at you.

Homecoming week is much like Spirit or Red ribbon week. Last year we had superhero day. Man that gives me a LOT of ideas xD

Aquapearl - I don't know what got into them, actually - wasn't sure if I heard right until I saw the list of themes. xD
We have Island, Cowboy, Rock Star, Super Hero, and Saxon (Red and Blue) Days. Kind of funny, considering a lot of the students here think it's stupid. =3
But we can dress up on Halloween if we want to and it follows school rules...even though that's the minority, too.

We do in fact have homecoming in the Universities in Canada. Much to my chagrin.
However, I would never EVER cosplay on homecoming weekend. Partially because I'm busy avoiding campus with extreme desperation, and partially because it's three full days of really drunk and rowdy jocks. Usually it ends with the entire cop force and the fire department breaking up a gigantic, riot-like street party.
But this spirit week stuff sounds a lot tamer than what I associate with Homecoming, so it probably wouldn't be as bad. ^_^

Whoo, I like the concept of homecoming week. (Broody English ppl!)
My school probably doesn't do dances, as it's an All Girl's school, (MEGA awkward!) but we have the occassional Non-school uniform day where my friend enjoys dressing up in Gothic Lolita. ^.^

spirit week...
i've never cosplayed, but last year on hippy day i went all out.
but it seems like some people are getting confused between homecoming week and homecoming. home coming week, or spirit week isn't the same as the formal dance and everything on homecoming night. jesus, cosplaying to the dance would be social suicide! (hmm, although i know a few people from my old town who just might have done it).

For my senior year (last year), my school's homecoming dance theme was Disney, so essentially... EVERYONE WAS COSPLAYING. My boyfriend's mother made me a costume of Meg from Hercules, but I have yet to put it up on this site, I need some good pictures first :D

I'm actually hyped about homecoming and spirit week (My senior year). This is what I plan on doing:
Tacky day- Dressing up Decora/Harajuku
Pajama day- Doing my jrock inspired PJ costume (wig included)
Twin day- My friend and I are gonna do Kaoru and Hikaru from Ouran Host Club
Spirit day-???
Superhero day-???
The other two days I haven't figured out what to do. But for the homecoming dance instead of wearing your standard store bought dress, I'm going to wear a Lolita inspired dress.

I never attended homecoming because I was a social outcast as an early otaku, never had someone ask me out, and I was overweight and back then, I was afraid to wear dresses or cosplay at homecoming (230 pds, currently 143). They did have haloween dances but I never went because back then I didn't know you could just go to your local hobby lobby to make a Princess Zelda. If I knew about cosplaying earlier in life(and a better figure), I probably would have made a formal cosplay to do to homecoming.
But one of my friends, SailorKnightWing, did a Phantom of the Opera cosplay for her prom awhile back.
But I really didn't care back then about homecoming stuff.

aweeee...Homecomming week. I'm seriously missing this now. I have homecomming in College...but no spirit week..nothing like in high school (i think we have one week kinda like spirit week..but i don't know what goes on then)
during High school I developed a strange amount of school spirit...esp. in my Junior and Senior years. I always made sure I did something really good for it. I and always tried to cospaly. I dressed up as Ryuichi Sakuma from Gravitation once...and i wore my Sakura (Naruto) costume Junior year. that went over really well. ^^
senior year was the best though. I went completely all out on every day. I wore my pink sakura wig on "color day" My friend and I actually dressed up as Ash and Misty from Pokemon. that was amazing really. I had really good outfits for all the days ^^
uwaaa...i miss spirit week...

I hated Spirit Week in my high school. The themes for each day were completely retarded because the preps on the Homecoming committee had absolutely no imagination. And if we had a "best of" contest, the students only wore the silly stuff long enough to be judged and then change.
And I only went to a few dances. To quote my husband, "I can't stand these people on a normal day. Now you want me to pay to hang out with them?"

Yup, its an excuse to cosplay for me! Today, I tested out my Konan wig for Crazy Hair Day, it went well
Tomorrow is International Day and I plan to be Tsunade, Highschool Stereotype I'll go in a nerd get up as Mars, Thursday, maybe if I can do a decent red carpet variation of Konan maybe that will work, but yeah. Friday is just class T-shirt day, bleh...
Then there is Spirit Week next semester! I hope I can get Konan done to wear the cloak and maybe some more paraphenalia.
