Yes, I know the metro would be SO much easier, but my best friend insists on driving down, so that is that. Is anyone from or familiar with the area to know how far the nearest parking garages are from the hotel and how much parking is going to cost for Friday-Sunday?

From AnimeUSA's site:

"Parking at the Hyatt Crystal City is valet only (Anime USA members can park at 50% of the standard rate). There is also two parking garages behind the hotel, one adjacent to it and one in EPA building across the street, as well as several others in the surrounding area."

Yes, I read that already. That doesn't really give me a good idea of walking distance, and nothing about price. But thank you anyway :)

Parking is 23 dollars a day valet at the Hyatt Regency.

We aren't going to be valet parking. We plan to use a parking garage.

If you park at the Hyatt, it's Valet only and I don't think the other garages are allowing the 50% discount.. >>

Indeed, and 50% off from 23 a day (i'm gonna guess that price you quoted is the standard valet rate at the hotel) is a good deal.

The hotel is right by the Reagan International Airport, so parking garages should definitely be all around, and the con site lists a few of them to look for right behind the hotel.

But they also state that parking around and at con is limited. But from what I have seen from past years, there will be a LOT of places left to park.

Here...this is from the T-Mode website, which was just held at the Crystal City Hilton on 26th st (the Hyatt is on 27th). Gives a lovely picture of the area above 27th st, with parking, restaurants, etc. http://crystalcity.com/_/File/_/retail_directory_final.pdf

The parking garage at the end of 23rd st is huge and only $10/day, I think.

I think Long-Term parking at the airport is like $9 a day. Then just take the hotel shuttle to and from.

Psssst, my hubby and I have always been able to park for free in the mall parking garage all weekend. ^_~ (There is an underground mall attached in or around the Hyatt. I can't exactly remember because I'm bad at directions, but it's very close!)

There is Crystal City Mall and Pentagon City Mall. Pentagon City mall is the one above ground, Crystal City is below. It also has a metro stop. But parking at the mall sounds like a great idea.

Pentagon City Mall is a decent hike from the hotel. Crystal City parking lots are free after 4 pm on weekdays and weekends :)

I think the malls would get upset if a few hundred con attendees figured out parking was free and snatched up all the spaces...I'd be afraid they'd tow my car!

But $23/day? Yeesh. As if I'm not already forking out cash to stay at the freaking hotel, now they want to charge my poor little car, too...I guess myself and my friend will unload our stuff while the boyfriend finds parking. I don't like valets touching my car. Bad experience.

A couple of friends are parking at a Metro station (I think you can leave free on Weekdays, someone correct me on this), taking the metro in to Reagan National Airport, then taking the "complimentary" shuttle to the hotel.

whoa first post in nearly two months lol

Are they leaving their car in the Metro lot all weekend or just commuting? Just a public service announcement from a local, but always be very careful when deciding to leave your car in a Metro lot overnight. Vandals see them as easy targets and know how to get around security cameras. A couple years ago there were reports of a string of car thefts happening out of a certain Metro lot, but I can't remember which one. Car windows being broken, stuff being stolen out of vehicles, and vandalism happen to cars in Metro lots all the time. Sad, but that's life.

Thanks for the extra info everyone. Now my best friend's parents are driving and staying with us for the weekend, so I'll relay the info to them, but I'm sure they'll park wherever they darn well please. I don't care, I won't be paying for it.

Someone please help me settle a stupid debate, someone in our party believes that everytime we ask for our car we will be charged the day rate, as in it will cost us more to get our car twice a day than threee times a day

Someone please back up my side that it will only be a flat rate for the day plus tips for each trip?

Here's how Valet works...

If you park Valet, and you need your car, they will not charge you for parking if you take out your car and plan to return... Only on the final day will they charge you, don't tell them your room number, however, >> They'll charge the room...

However... If you park elsewhere, they may and probably will charge you to take out your car and then return...
