View Full Version : Another RENT/Final Fantasy idea.

This is really more of my backup plan--people like my idea of having the cast of Final Fantasy X sing "La Vie Boheme B," but I have another idea because A) I might not find the right people in time, B) we might not be able to rehearse properly as a group, and C) one person is much easier to keep track of than seven.

Basically, it involves Yuna asking Tidus to be her guardian/lover by singing "I'll Cover You." It's just as happy, has just as much dancing, and it will probably earn even MORE points from fellow RENT-heads because of Collins and Angel. :D

Here's the movie version (http://youtube.com/watch?v=3Yhb7DMWre0) of the song so you don't get bombarded by people cheering, and here's the theater version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Owq9GzFbu1I) so you have an idea of what it looks like on-stage. (If you're uncomfortable with two guys kissing, don't watch the last few seconds of the second one.)

It's a given that I'll need to change the lyrics--I'm working on it right now alongside "La Vie Boheme B." "I'll Cover You" runs pretty close to two and a half minutes, but I'm sure they'll allow it.

So... Yuna and Tidus = Collins and Angel?

Same deal as the last one-- if you don't know all the characters of both FFX and "Rent," you're not going to be able to draw a parallel between them. If you want to use a how tune with rewritten lyrics, that's perfectly fine, but you can't expect everyone in the audience (yes, even in California) to draw the same connections that you did. I think this is better than the large group idea, because you don't NEED to draw all those connections in order to make it work; it's just a simple romantic song.

I still wouldn't do the whole thing. Two and a half minutes of watching someone lipsync is pretty excruciating.

The success of this thing would depend really heavily on the quality of the new lyrics and the voices you can bring to bear on it. I don't give a damn about RENT, but a well-written, well-sung, and most importantly BRIEF bit of musical theater sounds fine.

Brief is of tantamount importance there. People will get your drift within ten seconds, and after that you're on borrowed time.
