Let's Talk About The American FLCL Release...

Holy crap did they do a great job. It's pretty rare I get exited about the job a company does when translating a series- usually I'm just happy if they don't f*** it up.

But I watched the American FLCL release last night and was loving it. The video looks amazingly great (especially after watching the FLCL fansubs for the past year, as well as a lot of other anime DVDs like the grainy Escaflowne movie) and the dub is actually nicely-done and listenable even though I prefer the subs.

There's also a great audio track of director's commentary that you can listen to or watch subtitles for (there's two Japanese audio tracks- one is the dialogue subs, the other one is subs for the director's commentary). This commentary was great if you like FLCL, since it's a very random series and the director explains a lot of things on this track.

Also the translation makes more sense than it did on the fansubs.

animegamers.com I used to work for them.. and they
did the brought ''FLCL'' and ''Tenshi ni narumon'' to American
with probably one of the best dubbing ever. FLCL was delayed
like heck.. (4 months?) but i'm glad they finally finished it.

Please enjoy those two anime.. because that company consists
of true/pure hardcore otaku and their mission was to
''make dubbing right''.

I watched it on Cartoon Network...but the effect seems to be lost on me.

I feel as if some of the content might be lost on the viewers as well.

I still love it though, and if it's on, I'll watch it of course!

Yes, please don't bump up threads that haven't been posted in for 5 years. Nobody would mind if you wanted to make a new FLCL discussion thread. :) There are also much more recent ones than 2002 when the site opened, so I'm surprised you went for this one! Closing this for now.
