Genericon XXIII (2010 Feb 12-14th)

So I have never actually been to Genericon before but I plan on attending in 2010. Is anyone else? Yes I know it's early but I'm curious.

One reason is because I can't find any friendly cosplayers around here (looks around :( )

I will be going. It will be my first time ever going to this convention but it's one I look forward to. I will be dressing up as FFX-2 Yuna (white mage). Lol only able to cosplay one costume this year around but if this convention is great I will return in 2011 with more costumes. ^^

My friends and I are heading up to genericon this year. This year will be the 6th year we've gone and every year we've had lots of fun. My friends will be bringing a sora from kingdom hearts 2 and others while I'll be taking my Warcraft costume. The forums on the genericon website have quite a few responses to the cosplay threads. Perhaps people just haven't seen this thread. :P

Anyone going? It will be my first convention, so I have a question..
A group of us are going as characters from Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Me as Suki (last episode tea shop costume), my sister as Katara (last episode tea shop costume), my other sister in her Appa quadsuit costume, and her boyfriend in Zuko's last episode tea shop costume..
We've been making costumes for a while now, so we have a good stock of them... but since this is a anime/rpg/science fiction con, I wasn't sure if any of our other costumes would be acceptable?

Pirates of the caribbean
Sweeney todd
Narnia
GI Joe
Twilight
New Moon

(narnia would ultimately be the best because we would have all 4 Pevensie's.. =/ )
If they won't fit into this con, then I guess we will wear our avatar costumes during the weekend.?

Any tips for first time con goers? We won't be staying in a hotel, since our house is only about a hour or so away.. so what is the best times to be at the con? and what should we expect? anyone else going?

I'm going too! Gonna be there as Monica from Yakitate Japan and Ran Fan from FMA:Brotherhood.

I'm sure those cosplays are acceptable, same thing as people cosplaying Jack from Pirates of the Caribbean at other anime conventions.

I just made major updates to my Barbossa and Edmund Pevensie costumes, so I'll be really excited to actually be able to wear them!

Hmm haven't heard it that, sorry I'm really anime illiterate unless its Avatar.. lol
When will you be there? I'm just not sure as to what time we should plan to be there in the morning and stuff. lol

Sweeney Todd- Yep people have cosplayed them too at Anime Boston
Narnia- No idea but it should be fine
GI Joe- tons of people cosplay soldiers from all different animes
Twilight and New Moon- Oh gosh you will hear many different things about this, however I shall be biased because I like Twilight and New Moon (though not overly fangirl craved obssesed like some peope *scary*) For Anime Boston 09, there was a Twilight Cosplay Group. That is all I shall say

There have been MANY jacks, did you know there is a Pirate Convention down in New Orleans?

As for anime, you'll find some you like :)

So far I have been to Anime Boston 06, 08, 09 but I have yet to be to Genericon (I live 10 minutes from the con btw on a good traffic day) but something always came up so I don't know what Genericon will hold.

As long as everything works out, I plan to attend this year.

Probably as a random Anbu from Naruto, unless I get my other costume done..we shall see.

As I said before I will be doing an anbu, I'll have a red parasol and a red scarf with tall buckle boots.

Yea, it's better to try to get a costume ready for a con and make it the best you can :)

Hm..anything else? Uh..sign up for the genericon forum boards and theycan answer questions for you. And since you live pretty close, you should look at going to bigger cons such the new york anime festival (i think thats the one) or Anime Boston. :)

Anyways, the con starts at 5PM on friday and ends at 5PM on sunday. It runs 24 hours so you can still be at the con even though its 4AM in the morning I guess. But no sleeping is allowed at the con so go home if you want to sleep.

I myself will probably be there from 5PM or so on friday if I can make it on time. My Yakitate costume might be easy to recognize haha, it's a chef uniform in blue and white with 3 yellow stars. Then Ran Fan is pretty much an armored ninja, you can prob recognize me by my scary mask in red, white and black with the yin symbol on the forehead or if you see someone with a black chestplate/breastplate thats me.

I'm a college student but at SUNY Albany. I don't think I have the energy to stay there past 12AM since events close early. The only thing running for 24 hours are probably games for the hardcore gamers. I'd rather go home and freshen up for my next cosplay =)

My hair is now too long for my Suki outfit though my boyfriend might still wear his Sokka outfit one of the days. I'll be at Genericon! It's my first year going to that con since I'm kind of in the area. Truthfully, I didn't even know of this con's existence until a friend of mine at college told me that in her hometown there's a con that she likes to go to...and then I was hooked. XD

I know we're going to be there all day on Saturday. We're leaving after classes on Friday to drive up, so we'll see when we get there. But my cosplay plans are North Italy (military uniform) on Saturday and North Italy (casual) on Friday and Sunday.
