I've ALWAYS wanted this look...just don't know what they used.
I don't think it's gloss...
I want this shiny look that will LAST and not go away right off the bat
Here's an example:

I believe a number of makeup companies (Maybelline, Loreal, et al) are coming out with plenty of liquid lipsticks...shiny ones. :)

Short of using the stickiest stuff I know, you will eventually have to reapply lipgloss to achieve such a shiny look round the clock. Most long-wear lipcolors have topcoat of gloss that can be applied as needed. Check out L'oreal and Max Factor. :)

Like HuongStar said, whatever you get, you'll probably hafta reapply. One note on the long-wear lipsticks -- they tend to have that glossy topcoat, but the only way you can remove the bottom coat (the color) is with baby oil, I believe...(at least, that's what the package my mother bought said). Not sure how expensive they are, either. Oh, and be sure of the color you want (how it looks on you, etc) before you get it =^^=;; the color my mom ended up buying didn't look too good on her, and then it was a bitch to get off, too :P So, yeah. You could probably just get a tube of clear gloss, but you'd hafta reapply the gloss constantly. *shrug* In the end, it's up to you.
Note: I managed to get my lips shiny like that once with this one brand of lipgloss (sorry, can't remember what it's called :\ If I knew, I'd buy more...), but it was very liquidy, and tasted good, so I kept licking it off :3

I buy the long lasting lip color buy like revlon of maybline, works really well, just keep applying the lip gloss.
Also check out the expensive make-up counters (like the one's in Marshal Fields) They're paid to only find you the right make-up sometimes the lip glosses are $20 a bottle (or tube.) but they look just like that. Bath and body works sometimes has stuff like that too, but it's more of a tint then a color like the picture you showed.
I'm done a couple professional photoshoots, and they reapply lip gloss and make up like every 5th picture (well not quite that much) but yeah.

Try a lip polish instead of a lip gloss or lipstick. LORAC makes one that comes in a high gloss finish

One option is to use MAC's Lip Glass lip gloss... (it's probably what HuongStar was referring to) It's super sticky and super thick (understatement here) and it will give you that look if you apply it over top of another color of lipstick. It comes in a frosted clear tube. To apply you squeeze a little out and dab it on with your finger or other applicator.
Edit: *reads previous post* Nail polish!?!? I wouldn't try that myself...

I've seen a picture like that in a mag...
First off, the shine was added in Photoshop (there's inconsistancies on the lower lip) so there's really no way to achieve that exact look.
But I'm pretty sure you cah add that almost-same shine on with Lorlac (or something like that) lip polish.

I got some really nice lipgloss at "Trade Secret", I got a shiny silverish blue, that really comes out a light silver, but clear enoght to see your lips. The lipgloss is their brand, and the store that I know of is in the Fortuneoff Sorce mall in Westbury, LI.
As for REALLy silverish, I'd use Moon Rock Candy by Bonne Bell and their lipgloss sticks.
Oh! I forgot to add, I have this old Clinque light pink lipgloss, which really matchs the color of your lips (if its light pink) and has spf 30 ^^! Its a bit more expensive I guess, but thats the best lipgloss I have.

no. you can actually get that kind of lips, but it could be achieved by photoshop.
you can use NYC's lipgloss that comes in those likkle roller-trype things... they smell good and they last for quite a while... but you will have to reapply. they're also pretty cheap.

to achieve that look. try to outline your lips with a lipliner that matches your lipstick. then fill your lips as well with the lip liner. Use a long lasting lipstick and over it try a matching lipgloss, like a gloss from lancome. :: they last a good amount of time and mine smells like roses =D :: i'm not a big fan of lipstick. i barely use it i stick to glosses but my mother was a model and she told me that's how she did her makeup =D

^that's what i was going to experiment.
but look at the nice sparkles on her lips...shiiiny!
and yeah...i wanted nice pink glossy lips for wedding yuna, and i don't feel like reapplying that stuff every 5 minutes :D
i had a lip gloss thingy, but it'd be gone in less than 15 minutes.
I saw these at the store today:
http://www.bonnebell.com/smackers/liquid_lipsmackers/
But then, I think there is still the problem of it going away.
I guess what I'll do, is the foundation base (yup on lips, it works), colour in with lip liner and then that gloss stuff on top and hope for the best

Red Earth Cosmetics (sold in select Esprit stores) carries the most FABULOUS pot lip gloss that I've ever used.
They cost $8 a pot, and I suggest using a lipbrush to apply but they are super glossy, and quite long lasting.
I love them. And I've tried almost everything on the market.
Lipglass by M.A.C. is also really great, but a but pricey. Revlon's new SuperLustrous Lip Gloss (regular tube, applied with sponge tip applicator) is pretty as well, but I tend to not enjoy glosses that start off in liquid form. I find that they are not a long lasting.

i think i'll try out their lipglass:
should i get the tinted lipglass or the clear one?
the good thing about the clear, is that i can use it for any lipstick.
but then, the tinted one has the base colour for it, will it last longer...and eeee i dunno!!
anyhow if i get the tinted one, the MAC stores has those ladies who help you out so i'm good there ^_^

As a general rule, stay away from drug store lipglosses.
You kinda get what you pay for - they smell gross and the textures are not as nice.
Cover Girl is the bottom end of it.... Maybelline's wet-shine stuff is too sparkly.
lainey
03-09-2004, 11:01 PM
i actually was looking for sparkly..
but my cousin says maybelline's wet shine suucks
archangeli
03-10-2004, 12:26 AM
Well, I don't suggest any of the actual "sparkly" glosses. You'll look like a 12 yr old teeny bopper - unless that's the look you're going for. I dunno ;)
Based on the pic you posted - you want a shiny gloss with an iridescence to it. Not anything with "glitter" bits in it.
Try Revlon's Super Lustrous Lip Gloss. It's cheap (less than $10) and the colors are really pretty (see attached pic).
I prefer to layer glosses over lipstick so that I can control the color. It also lasts longer ;)
my bf works at the photolab in a shoppers drug mart so i get to try all the new stuff for cheap!! *mwa ha ha* and my cousin works for Esteé Lauder (who owns M.A.C., Clinique and many other lines) so I get discounted stuff from them too.

03-10-2004, 09:54 AM
Actually, I disagree. The pic originally posted looks like it has small bits of glitter in it, so I would definitely say sparkly. As for Mabelline Wet Shine Diamonds... I have three of them and they work fine for me. If I were going to try to achieve that look, I'd use one of those and then put Lip Glass over the top of it. Then I'd set it with a very light powder.
But that's just me.

Well, the great thing about MAC is that it's relatively cheap so you could get two or three. I'd definitely invest in the clear Lipglass and pick two shimmery/glittery neutrals. I used to wear Oh Baby! religiously and I found that I could wear it over almost any lipgloss that needed some "warming up" (since Oh Baby is gold/nude shimmer).
Chanel is really wonderful but expensive.

around here, at dollar stores and such, they have cheap lipgloss thats super shiny. its a little sticky, but what more can u ask for with a buck?
Hmm, well... Being a guy who is known to speak his mind I must say..
I do not find shiny lips to be at all sexy. ^^ (sorry) If anything, most guys I know hate lip-stick/gloss. We just put up with it, is all. I think that those things are more about girls wanting other girls to notice, rather than guys. (Which upon observation is either pseudo-lesbian, the strive for peer acceptence, or simply competition.) Regardless, it may surprise you to know: we couldn't really care less. ^^
On a very similar note.. I have always wondered how a girl could tell another girl what is sexy or not. They know nothing about what guys find sexy. They only know what television and magazines say. =P
Oh well, just found this observation to be a bit interesting. =)

I LOVE the look of shiny lips, and if you what you say is true (which i ENTIRELY disagree), it doesn't matter because I can dress/wear makeup the way that I want to, and not just to be attractive to males.

Well it does depend on the guy, Yin. Every single guy I know love it when girls play up their lips with lipstick. ;) Just like not every drop dead gorgerous guy is into thin, drop dead gorgerous girls but rather overweight lovelies its the same with what a guy likes to see on the woman's face. Some guys find women without makeup to be ugly and other just the opposite. Can't generalize what guys like because what you like may not be what your buddy down the street likes.

Very true. I (personally) often find girls without makeup to be far more attractive than a girl who is wearing it. Not to say I have never found a girl in it to be pretty all the same. =)
And.. ^^.. My observation was not only based on my own or my "buddy down the street"s opinions, but many-many male-friends of mine. Local, and online.

I think it is a little shallow, Yin, saying you have to put up with it, I think a lady would wear make-up to look beautifal, not because she is a lesbian, not because she is in competition, but just to feel good about herself. Remember, It is my opinion!

Do you understand any of my posts? I suggest you develop your reading comprehension along with your sense of sarcasm a bit before commenting on what I say. What it looks like from here, is you look at my posts, and pick out the 2 sentences you think you understand, then reply to them. The problem being you don't understand the context of the sentence, or the views expressed.
Come now, the last thing I need is an 8th grader, with the reading comprehension skills of a 4th grader stepping on my heels as I go from thread to thread.

The entire history of painting lips goes back as far as ancient Egypt. There is a very sexual connotation behind it. Painting your lips with lipstick or gloss is a symbolic representation the labia (or vaginal lips) and that the wearer is sexually "ready". (Yes, I know that none of you will ever think of lipstick the same way again..... :p)
This is kinda the same idea behind offering girls flowers - flowers are a plants "vagina" and offering flowers was a sign that the guy was sexually interested.
Obviously we don't take these things too seriously nowadays. So if ANYONE wants to wear shiney lip gloss, it's their choice. Yin simply brought up the point that girls tend to dress to impress. It's simply a manner of behaviour - it wasn't a personal attack.
[Sidenote: I think that my wearing lip gloss is a good thing since my boyfriend NEVER uses chapstick unless i force it on him. at least when i kiss him he gets some moisture on those cracked lips of his :) ]

Same with lipstick, colour makes it noticable.
