Hey Guys! This is actually my first thread! Yay!!

Well, I guess I could be considered a cosplay amateur because this is only my second costume. I have just discovered cosplay and now, I can't seem to get enough of it! I like to create things and I had so much fun with this costume! Now, I kind of regret finishing it! :bigcry:

Sorry about the sagging armor. I just got glomped by someone and when they glomped me, they accidentally detached it from the black part of the armor. I was unable to prepare myself for these pictures. I'm sooo sorry!!!

How ironic it is to have been severely glomped before the cool people from cosplay.com take my picture! :sulk: Oh well!

I had to reinforce the whole armor peice but, that's ok! It was no prob to fix!

I love to get advice and give it as well! I would appreciate any advice you guys could give me to better improve this costume! And if you would like advice, I would be happy to help! Just let me know!

Quick edit! I might also want to re-create the front part of the armor (the part with the tassels) because it looks a bit too bulky. Yeah and it kinda bothered me too! I hate being restricted from movement!

Oh wow, that is one excellant Sesshomaru. As far as improving it goes..I'd say try to get a lumpy type of fur...not one where the hair stands out clearly. One resembling more of a puffball than clearly defined fake fur (hope that makes sense). But other than that the costume seems really excellant, especially the armor; the finish makes it look like real metal ^^

OMG you did two.. you are like my hero now!!!! ^_^

You are like the most acturate Sesshomaru I've seen so far. You've got both swords...which I rarely see anyone cosplay. Uh, I wish I could have been there to see u at "akon" =sorry my fault for reading stuff too fast. And the BEST fluffy tail I've seen.

I'm in shock and awe!!!

But I have a question:
Do you have fangs to go with InuYasha and Sesshomaru?

Also his shash is more yellow than gold BUT BUT I love the gold more than the yellow gives the costume more detail and realism about it.

Ooh very nice! Im especially lovin your swords. And your armor is, well, simply well done. One of the best Ive seen so far.Your sash turned out really nice, but I'm not sure about the color. The hexagon pattern turned out really well too (curse those hexs) I do agree with the fluff in that it could be poofier though.

Thanks for the comments guys!!

I really thought about using the actual color that Sesshomaru uses but, I hate yellow with a passion for some odd reason. That color hurts my eyes!! (You know, that eye pain that you get when you’re outside driving by those neon carwash signs. >.<) I thought that antique gold would work well to compliment the rest of the costume. It even has mini hexagon prints all over that match Sesshomaru’s prints! It also contains 14 kt gold! (pretty price too >.<)

I wanted to go for the realistic look as well. For the sake of the character, I may make an extra sash in the right color. Just to feel better! ^.*

And about the fluff: Those are great ideas! The only thing is that it gives me a blind spot when going around the con. I would hate to bump into the random "evil" con-goer that will scream at you for bumping into them. I might consider making it bigger by stuffing it or something.

I'm glad that you like the costume!

Thanks for all the compliments! I simply adore your Koga costume! Do you have a costume critique?

I would like to purchase some fangs for my costume but, I'm not sure how long they'll last. I can't stand having things in my mouth. >.<

I usually never talk to anyone so they'll never know if I have them or not!! Hehe!

You would go nuts if you only knew how many times my fluffy got stepped on! XD

I think that you have done a better job on that costume then other people. Sesshomaru is my favorite character. And I think that you make a cute Sesshomaru too.

My two cents:

The sash colour. The gold hurts my eyes.

I hate yellow with a passion as well, but I'd personally use it if it would make my costume more accurate.

And you friggin' NAILED the hexagon pattern! I have NEVER seen a more accurate one. Never never never.

I have em and they arent bad at all! But DONT file the bottoms of em - then it gets rough and hurts - I did that and now I wanna get a new pair.

But yeah I just dont like the gold part... ^^; But other than that youre great! <333

Yea, I went back and made the correction, I ment to say Akon and Otakon. I was excited reading that I THOUGHT it said Otakon. ^_^ Sorry, but still I wish I could have been there.

Yes, I have a critique up here:
http://forums.cosplay.com/showthread.php?t=40095

The fangs:
Uh I had a hard time with them because I was rushing at the Convention and the top part of the fang rubbed the inside of my lip, it was kinda uncomfortable. BUT I gained more pleasure from them than pain, because people loved em. I'm going to try and file down the top part by the gum, and leave the fang point alone.

i have to say, this has to be the best Sesshoumaru cosplay i have seen. It is pretty well completeley accurate, you have a decent wig (thank you!) and you have done all the little things - nails, both swords, good makeup (even the hands!!!) etc...im am v.v.v.v.v impressed. amazing.

the only thing would be the fluffy tail thing. as someone said above, it look more like a puffball...but it hardly detracts. im really looking hard here LOL

i may be able to help you with the fangs. my dad is a dentist, and my sis needed little fangs (like Inu or Sesshy)for a costume. he basically got some sort of amalgam stuff and moulded the desired shape onto the tooth. so all you have to do is slip them over the tooth, but they look VERY realistic. ive seen store bought one and well, theyd ruin such a fabulous costume. it does take some time but you get used to them really quick, just a little talking practice is needed lol

I had the old version of the scarecrow fangs, the vampfangs with thermoplastic and they were very comfortable and I didn't lisp at all after a little practice. It did take several tries to mold the thermoplastic correctly though. They looked awesome too, several people at school asked if they were real...what the hell did they mean by that anyway? lol!

Awesome costume though! The sesshy armor I'm working on actually looks a lot like that...is that silver pvc? That's what I'm using, foam, pvc, and fimo for the spikes. Plus kendo armor...which costs a small fortune. I actually like the gold for the sash...I think it works very well. I used goldenrod myself, and yes, it gives me a headache but with the kendo armor on I won't have to look at it hopefully! XD! How to you attach the hexagon pattern to the kimono, it looks very nice! I used appliques and I don't recommend it, very time consuming. As for the fluffy, it could be bigger, but the way it sits is completely accurate, a lot of people ignore the fact that it attaches under the arm and you can't see both ends. Also, did you stuff the pants with something? because they look great, definate hammer action ;) How did you make Tokijin? It looks really good. I have a tenseiga but the more I think about it the more I want to make a Tokijin.

About the yellow contacts, I don't recommend the cat eye ones, I used to have some and unless they're prism balanced like the ones from 9mmfx they'll spin on you and they're not the right color for inu or fluffy, they're really light yellow almost neon. I'd either go for the wolf ones or get a custom job from 9mmfx. I decided to go with them because I've already resigned to the fact that this costume will end up costing me over $400 so why not go for broke?

Terrific costume though, other than the japanese cosplayer Kaie Tada, that has got to be the best Sesshoumaru I've ever seen!

Fluffy-chan
08-02-2004, 10:44 PM
OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Animeisha-san!

Kaie Tada was my main inspiration!! I just didn't know that that was her name. I have that picture of her in my school binder! At school, this girl that knows nothing about anime thought that the picture was me when she had just glanced at it. (That's because I hadn't made this costume yet!) She's the reason why I had decided to go for the gold color sash!

Her costume is AWESOME!! I would love to chat with her sometime!

I agree with you on the contacts. I saw an InuYasha cosplayer that had them and they were turned facing towards the center like this / \. They looked weird and scary too!

I might consider getting them at Lens Crafters so that my doctor can prescribe them for me. I'm blind without my contacts! >.< They had a pretty amber yellow color!

I would hate to be blind at a con! Well, that's what I get for reading too many books!

As for the armor, I got glomped before these pictures so it looks a bit too low. I used foam and upholstered it with silver fabric that I found in a fabric store in Mexico. (Spanish is essential!)

I made the spikes out of molding clay and sprayed them with chrome spray paint. I could have bought kendo armor but, I'm too petite for it. I have a small upper-body structure. I opted for making the black armor out of thick black vinyl. I lined it with the same silver material by using the sewing machine. (Singer Rulz!)

I actually did use appliqué for the hexagons on my kimono. They came out better than I expected! My teacher let me make them at school for an arts and crafts grade! She gave me a bunch of tips on how to make them look accurate.

For the pants, my mom suggested that I find a firm fabric and make a pair out of it. So I actually made two pairs of pants: One out of the main fabric and one out of the firm fabric. I then placed the firm fabric pants inside the main pants and sewed them together at the cuff and at the top.

The sword was simple! I may make a sword tutorial for Tenseiga, Tokijin and Tetsuaiga for cosplay beginners soon!

I hope this helped!

Thanks for all the compliments!

^_^

Kaie is awesome, I got a whole bunch of pics of her Sesshoumaru costume off her website, she's got all the awesome shots with her and Inuyasha battling and such. I happened accross a pic of her about a year ago on cosplay closet's hall awards site, and am still amazed at the level of detail she put into it, especially with the embroidery...I could never do that in a hundred years, and on top of that she said it took her under a week to make it, that almost makes me ill you know?

That's actually a terrific idea for the pants...I never thought of that. I was just going to use bags of air I collect from UPS, but that was they wouldn't shift. I've already made the kimono/pants/sash, there should be a pic in my gallery...try not to look at the yellow too long though >.< I found that fabric at hancock one day and figured it was closer and less ugly than plain yellow...(but still not a color I would ever normally wear).

That armor in the pic is stuff I bought off ebay and re-sold...I decided I wanted to make it myself and at least attempt to make it look like metal. I had to get my silver fabric off ebay from the UK, can't find it over here anymore it would seem. As far as fur fabric goes I spent a fortune on some upholstery site for cream colored fur. I got samples from mendel's and decided non of them were right. The stuff I ended up buying (not in that picture) is off white and kinda ratty looking like the stuff Kaie used. it's really soft and thick but is more separated then the mendel's stuff. I haven't decided what to stuff it with yet, Kaie's is really full and looks very heavy...ouch!

I hear ya on the contacts, I have to go to the eye doctor again because my prescription expired and even if I did want to order the wild eyes they don't make them strong enough for me ( I think I'd probably need someone to guide me through the hotel at a con without contacts XD)

That sucks someone messed up you armor glomping you, I'm going to make my boyfriend play bodyguard atr Sugoi-con or else make Tokijin and point it at anyone who tries. I'm not much of a fan of glomping, mostly because I've seen enough costumes get broken that way and partly because I enjoy my personal space...people I don't know nearly choking me doesn't appeal. I wish people would at least ask so awesome costumes like yours wouldn't get messed up. I don't know why people think just because you're cosplaying a character they like gives them right to tackle you halfway to the ground. >_<

ok, ill se what i can find out. one thing i can tell you is that its realtively time consuming, shaping and all that. that may bump up the price as youre using up a longer time slot. ill try to be more helpful tomorrow...

You are very welcome Rameana-san!

I was amazed by her work. I plan on making a kimono with embroidery like hers because my mom just bought a sewing machine that can do that! She agreed to help me but, she still thinks I'm nuts! XD

No, if I cosplay him I wanna do it all the way and have the neat swords like Fluffy-chan. ^_^

Fantastic Sesshoumaru. I know his costume is very difficult, especially with all the detail. You managed to fit in everything people tend to forget. Detail and props seem to be the things that make or break a costume, and you achieved the costume perfectly.

The only criticism I have is that his belt/sashy thing, to my memory, is yellow and purple. It might "technically" be gold, but I think it would look better in bright yellow and purple. That's just my opinion though! Doesn't make the costume look bad!

OK...talked to dad.

well in Aust$ each 'fang' he estimated to cost between 80 and 150 dollars. (im sorry i dunno the xchange rate currently, i figure somewhere between 45 - 85 American - from what i know, dental its relatively expensive there ).

He also said finding a dentist willing to do this will be tricky - you'll prolly end up paying through the nose or being referred to a specialist...you prolly dont want to do that - that will be incredibly enpensive, for a reltively simple job.
this doesnt look good....*sigh*

BUT if you know a friend who is a dentist/dental student/whatever you MAY be able to get/buy sample tubes of the material used to make the fangs. its called Composite.

if you can he says to basically glob a bit of composite on the tooth, and shape it (it doesnt set fast so dont worry), gently get it off the tooth and leave it under a 'hot' light, eg. a halogen bulb, for a few minutes.

Looking at the anime, neither Sesshy or Inu will need very much composite for a pair of those little fangs.

Also, my dad it quite willing to send tubes of composite to those interested.

any other questions will be answered to the best of my ability...

i hope that was helpful....

Rameana
08-06-2004, 06:37 AM
So we would get the composite, from you dad and have to shape the composite into a fang ourselves?

Animeisha
08-06-2004, 04:24 PM
Yeah... I had a freind who had custom fangs made by a dentist in high school...it cost her a couple hundred dollars. I would imagine to get the fangs smooth you would need a dremel tool or one of the buffing tools dentists use...dremels are only $30 but might be too harsh, although you can get like 50 differnt bits. All the same you'd probably need that dentist buffing tool. Just a shot in the dark, but medical equipment such as that never comes for under a couple hundred dollars. *sigh* Guess we're stuck with scarecrow (which can be very comfortable if you mess around with it long enough, at least the old thermoplastic ones were). So, Rameana, you have the new scarecrows right? Do they stay in very well and is the molding kit difficult? I'm about to order some new ones since I can't find mine (lost them right after Ohayocon >_<) and I want to know whether to ge the new scarecrows or the old vampfangs from the same site that were just like my old ones.

Fragmentor
08-06-2004, 09:31 PM
yes, get composite and shape into fang. thats the basic process. In senir high school science you may have used very small metal spatulas - these would be good for shaping, dad didnt use a buffing tool, it was simply shaped by the metal 'spatula' thing...

Rameana

Well, they are nice. I kinda messed up since I was AT the con putting my stuff together. And to make them custom for your teeth you have to mix this stuff together and I could not find a cup and I did not have a spoon.. so one tooth almost fits perfect and another does not have enough of the rubber/gummy stuff in there. I have ONE more TRY to get it right because they only give enough powder to do it twice. I heard you can buy stuff at the store (like a drug store) if you run out, but I never found anything.

Also they cost $17 at the costume shop.

Animeisha
08-07-2004, 07:19 PM
$17 isn't bad...hot topic sells them now, but they only have the really long ones...I don't want to sound like I stuffed cotton in my mouth! Plus they wouldn't look right for takahashi demons. The thermoplastic was hard to do too...mine broke after a few wearings because I molded it too thin in the back. I kept screwing it up and ran out of thermoplastic. You heat it with boiling water, and you've got like 7 seconds to get it in the cap then around your teeth (it uses a palate kinda like a retainer), so naturally, it wasn't enough time...and it was frustrating as hell. They do have extra packs of thermoplastic on the site but I lost the fangs themselves >_< so it wouldn't help. I think I will be making a trip up to the costume store in the next couple weeks though ^_^

Rameana
08-07-2004, 11:46 PM
oh i see. the scarecrow fangs I got came with 3 ways to put on. The Paper way.. which it's some paper you wet and it becomes goooie. 2nd is the plets and tey give you alot of those and the 3rd is the custom gummy inside.

OH MY GOD!!! The Yaoi stick!! (cries because of bad memories :bigcry: )

I hate that thing!

This stupid guy from some yaoi stand wanted to leave his post to chase me and hit me with it!! I got so freaked out and I wanted to cry! My friend had to hide me from him! >.< (She said I was over reacting.)

Every time he would see me, he would holler out to me, from across the dealers' room, something along these lines: "YOU LOOK LIKE YOU NEED SOME YAOI!! How’s about coming over here and getting your much needed dose of YAOI!" I had to hide from him because he was around one of the main entrances of the dealers' room. I got kind of irritated. (More like traumatized! Hehe!)

Yes glompers can be scary! I know most of them don't mean to be scary but when they switch into fan girl (or boy) mode, it's not a cool thing to be wherever they are, ESPECIALLY if you are dressed as Sesshomaru or any fan favorite for that matter. He's a total fan girl magnet! >.<

I wish I could have been that brave! lol!

I'm working on a new wig for my Sesshomaru costume! It's funny that you mention the fact that it should be blue! The wig I'm working on is actually a silvery blue color and it also reaches all the way down to my legs. I can just imagine how hard it will be to untangle the darn thing! I hope no one decides to play with it while I'm caught unawares!

I'm surprised that not many people pay any attention to the fact that his hair is indeed a tint of blue.

The wig I used for this costume was way too short! However, it is a tint of blue but for some reason the pictures make it look white.

Thanks for the compliments! I also appreciate the fact that you would like me to assist you!

it left me some good bruses on my tooshi >.<
i even had a girl run after me ....of corse since it was either run or get beated down by a stick so i ran pretty fast...she couldnt keep up so instead she threw the god forsaken stick at me ......wich really hurt..i think thats going waaaay over the line .... i even had girls yelling at me to bend over....thats a bit mean
i also wanted to buy one of those sticks and seek revenge but,,,,,for 35$ my revenge is cheap so ill just get a metal batt and write anti-yoai stick on it..the outcome shall be vveery fun *evil smirk*
i thought ur wig was buetifull...but i understand u wantinng ti be picky about it^^ im really picky on mai inu one also...i think its a load of crap and always want to fix it up...but alas $$$$$ is hard to get in my pockets

ARE YOU SERIOUS!!! :mfg: They actually hit you for real!?!? And noone did anything about it! That's nuts!!

Now, I am officially spooked! I suppose I wasn't over reacting when trying to avoid that guy. He looked psychotic!

Not even my parents hit me! And then some freaky deaky comes out of nowhere and tries to whack me with that God forsaken Yaoi stick! That's soooo not cool!

Speaking of nasty people:

This guy dressed as Miroku groped me! I could not believe it! He actually groped me!! :blubber: AND in front of a bunch of people no less!

I'm just glad he didn't have a yaoi stick! XD The armor I had on also helped.

You should consider wearing football gear! That way you could tackle any one suspected of having a yaoi stick! XD!

What is it with Miroku's trying to grope people? I got groped by one at Ohayocon this year...then I slapped him knocked him to the ground and stepped on him...not really a thought out reaction, it just kind of happened. I don't think I'm ever going to wear my Aisha costume again...it makes guys think just because it's there they can touch it...I wonder if it was the same Miroku..doubtful but possible. This one was with some dude making a cosplay video..they said they traveled to different cons so I guess its possible. I love how people think being in a certain costume gives them right to do assholish things simply because the character happens to....ITS A SHOW PEOPLE...geez! >_<

Nasty middle aged pervs! I had one of those looking at me in the dealers room! He would never take his eyes off of me! He was look'n me up and down!

I got scared and hid myself behind my friend, but she would constantly move and uncover me!

I'd hate to imagine what it would be like to wear something that shows anything more! >.<

I do like the costume very much, terrific job. However, there were like a couple little tiny things that got me.

1.) I could see your natural hair coming out from your wig. You can fix this by getting a wig cap or just by grabbing a pair of nylon stockings, pulling it over your head with hair unside, and then hidding it under your wig.

2.) The rough edges on your sword destracted me a little. It was spectacular working but you could take a hand held power sander and buff that baby down.

Animeisha
09-05-2004, 03:53 PM
From what she told me the edges were put togehter with hot glue so you really can't buff it...besides, the sword isn't made form wood, it's like cardboard...good luck buffing that.

Necrobug: Yes I do agree with you about the hair! You haven’t any idea how much I tried to conceal my hair! >.< Since I'm somewhat new to this cosplay business, I had never heard of a wig cap before. My friend's mom is a beautician so she told me about wig caps and what they are used for. That's how I found out about them. (about three weeks ago) I wish I could have used one when I wore this costume. ~.~

Animeisha-san is right. I made the swords out of cardboard and secured them with hot glue. (Bad! >.<) I have yet to work with wood or fiberglass. I also wanted to make props that I could take to a con and actually use for my costume (with my limited knowledge in prop making) without the worries of having to leave it in my room or having it confiscated. I may consider making my next props out of wood or fiberglass. I just hope I can make those kinds of props con friendly. ^.^ It should be fun!

Inu-chan00: Did he want to cry really?! Aww! I hope he was inspired to cosplay as Sesshomaru again! I want to see a pic of him and you too!

Like, Wow, Bravo Dude n__n
that is spifftacularly Awesome Sesshoumaru :3
my little beefs about though are the following
1. the armor, and the shoulder plate, band, whatever ... why is it ALWAYS drooped over the top of the arm? T__T it just looks wrong, and shabby when it droops like that ._.;
2. the sash ... enough said, it being gold and all, but thats really no big deal
3. the Fluffy tail, mweh, like said, it looks off, its pretty damned close though :3
4. the swords look out of porportion, to big ;_;

anywho :3
yeah x3 thats awesome * fangirls sesshoumaru shamelessly *

I'm almost scared to do my Inuyasha costume for fear of fan girls and getting glomped. (I've never been glomped) The scary thing is that my first reaction if I see someone running at me is to get into attack or defense mode (I blame fencing class for this!)
I guess this isn't really a bad thing since it could go with being in character.

Yaoi stick huh? I'd have grabbed it and beaten him with it methinks. ^_^

Hey, glad to hear you making a couple of improvements to your costume. You should be scared. I mean luckily the biggest anime I have gone to is Anime Evolution which is only like 2000+ I have heard some have over 10,000! I would be so shocked if I went to something that big although I don't know how big Sakura con next year is going to be...I am going to that. Surprisingly at Anime Evolution noone attempted Sesshomaru which is what inspired me. God even my best friend said that she was going to keep me all to herself. I'm her best friend I don't want her doing all her fantasies to me...its scary actually. But If all these fangirls and fan guys came and tried to glomp me then I would just hold her close so they can't hug me or touch me! ^_^ But yea...I'm a bit scared from your stories but that won't stop me. *triumphant music plays*

My best friend was dressed as Kagura and we were always together so I think that most of the fangirls thought we were an item! lol! I did get glomped a lot though. But, most of the glomping would happen when we were not together. We always mess around with each other to scare people! lol! It's really amusing to see the strange looks on people's faces! ^.^

Hello everyone! ^.^

I just attended Oni-Con in Houston recently and I had a blast! It was really nice considering that it was a first year con! More people than were anticipated showed up!

Well, I have some pics of me in costume so I decided to post them up here. I did several improvements in the costume and I'm glad to say that I like most of the improvements!

I re-did the front piece of the armor. (the part with the tassels) the back is still the same. I'll be changing that soon. It still sags when I get glomped but not as badly as it would before! :p the back part is heavy so that has a lot to do with it looking like that. The front is about 2 to 3 times lighter than the back.

I made a new Tokijin because the other was a bit too big. And I didn’t really like it either. I also re-created the gold topper (or whatever it is called in Japanese ^.^) on the Tenseiga.

The fluffy would slide off my shoulder! :waaaah: I stuffed it a so that it wouldn't look so flat >.< I had stuffed it more but it wouldn’t even stay on me so I had to just stuff it a little bit so that it wouldn't falloff. My mom had to pin it to the costume so that it would stay on but unfortunately it pulled my kimono open and slid to the back! :bigcry: I'm trying new ways and they seem to have potential! But if you guys have any suggestions, I'll be glad to hear them!! ^_^

Oh! I almost forgot! :toothy: I also have a new wig for this costume from Amphigory! You can actually see my ears with it! I had to style it in a day because I received it a day before the con! I'm working on it now and am almost done with it! I'm incorporating another wig into it so that it will have more volume. I regret to say that I wasn't able to dye it a light shade of powder blue, but I may just leave it as is. I really like the way the silvery color looks. The wig creeps me out big time because of the skin part it has on the top! >.<

Well, I hope you like the pics!

The fist one is from crossplay.net, a nice new site! Please visit it when you have the chance! Jason, the author of the sight is a very nice and extremely talented guy! And the second one, I’m not too sure >.< If you took this pic, please let me know so that I can give proper credit! ^.^

Quick Edit: Awe shucks!!!! I just realized that I forgot to put those lines on my hands!! >.< I can't believe that I forgot that!! GRRRRRRR! I feel so stupid stupid stupid!!! (bangs head on keyboard: ,.;m/,l'jgh,'gl;jjb)

Hmm. With the problem with the fluffy, do you think it could be fixed with small white shoulder straps? Or would that even show too much?

Fluffy-chan
11-11-2004, 02:42 AM
The strap idea sounds good! ^.^

I could find good ways to conceal it. Humm..... sounds a lot easier than what I plan to do.

I thought of using Velcro by applying it to the black part of the armor at the bottom. (the area under the fluff) as well as to the top part of the kimono (shoulder area) but I figured that it would still pull it open. I'm not all that sure seeing that I haven’t tested this method as of yet.

I'll try the strap one too! Thanks for the suggestion Tia!

Tia
11-11-2004, 02:53 AM
Cool. I thought it might blend in with the costume since I think in the shoulder area there is white, right? *not sure* Velcro might work too. Just not the sticky kind. It always falls off. You're welcome ^_^

Might also want to consider big snaps, I think either Joann's or Walmart carried them, I cant remember, but I had used them to hold up some armor pieces for one of my other costumes, and they held up pretty good.

BTW..I love your Sesshy, nicely done. What fabric did you use for the main costume? Mine got pretty warm, but it was comfortable. And your armor is awesome, Im jealous....lol..... Would you have any suggestions on going about making the wig a light blue tint??? Markers or any sort of dye??

Hehe, dont worry, I forgot to have the marks painted on my hands too, but I didnt want it rubbing off onto my shirt, so I just went without them.

Fluffy-chan
11-13-2004, 12:39 AM
Thank you muy much Cosmos/Moon! ^.^ I love your Sailor Moon cosplay!! I also love your wig!! I like the more natural blond rather than the neon yellow. (that color hurts my eyes!) That's the main reason why I chose not to use yellow for the belt on my costume. lol

Sailor Moon was my first anime obsession! I bought soooooo many dolls and merchandise that I can barely tell what I have and what I don't! >.<

Fluffy-chan
11-13-2004, 01:12 AM
R1KKu, thanks for the compliments! I would like to see a pic of you in costume! ^.^ I wanted to re-do the whole piece instead of just the front part but I decided that the front and back pieces would be the only ones to replace. My mom got pissed with me and said that the rest of the armor was perfect and that I shouldn't make it "All over again" so I listened to her. (Mother knows best! ^.^) I think I'll just leave it that way after I finish the back piece.

The snap idea is another good one! I could probably experiment with that one! ^.^ Thanks!

About the material for the main costume, I used a fabric consisting of polyester blends and cotton. (I think 75/25) Not to sure about that one.

Lol! Lucky you! I was freezing my butt off at A-Kon in the video rooms! My cousin , who was dressed as Rin and I had to cuddle up to keep ourselves warm! >.< The fabric is not thin but it allows for ample ventilation so I don't have to worry about sweating. Not even under the armor piece. ^.^ I was able to wear it all three days with out worrying about it being dirty or smelling bad. Of course it takes A LOT for me to perspire. It also takes a lot for me to get BO. lol! I'm a body wash/deodorant/body spray/body lotion nut! ^.^

After the con, the costume smelled like my perfume and the detergent I had used to wash it. But I still washed it. (I have such anal sanitary habits! >.<) lol

As for the wig die, I'm not yet sure as to what I may use. I thought that I would just leave it as is. Had the wig been "pure" white, I may have considered dyeing it. >.< But I do have some kind of idea. (I might just try it for the heck of it)

I was discussing that with Animeisha-san a while back, and we thought that floral paints would do the trick. I have seen some new shades of Sharpie out lately, like an aqua color but there's the problem of figuring out how to make it a lighter shade.

I remember last year, they had pastel shades for Easter, but I'm not sure if they would be light enough to get the desired color since I wasn't looking to die a wig. x.x lol

I just wanted to compliment you on the costume..I've seen a few Sesshomaru costumes but this is definitely the best one  . It probably doesn't mean much seeing as how I'm a cosplay newbie and all, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

You can actually buy wig dye! Kate Blair's website carries it! The site link is this:
http://www.pettingzoowigs.com
If you wanted to use markers....I've heard that it can be done...but I'm afraid to attempt it! The color's are usually darker but I've heard that to de-intensify the color you can run the wig under water after you apply the color and the color will bleed down to a less intense color. Buuut...the problem with that is that sometimes the color will rub off or it can become uneven unless you're *really* careful about it.

Once more your Sesshy and Inu are great! I just finished my Inu and I'm happy with the way it turned out and I'll put up a critique as soon as I get pics of the final product after I debut it at Sugoicon. (my pics of the unfinished one are in my profile-thingy)

I second the strap idea! They make the 1" nylon straps like the ones used on bookbags in white, hell, they even make them in tan, which I used to hold my Shippou tail on...if it can hold something that heavy (about 6-7 pounds) I"m sure it would work well for the boa...There's ways you could use the straps to go underneath your kimono and armor, like across your chest like a sash, but that would require cutting your kimono and making buttonholes in it, which I did for Shippo so the straps wouldn't show. I used those little fasteners that are used on backpacks for tightening them, they're called strap adjusters, they work great and are pretty cheap. I'm trying to think of other ways to anchor it but I'm drawing a blank.

AnimeFanFreak, A lot of pictures show the blue in the sash being sporatic throughout the sash. Not a lot, but a little blue up in the bow is common.

Fluffychan. Nice job. I personally like it. I don't see anything drasically wrong or anything other than the fact that you might pull the spiked armor up a bit higher.

Great job on the sword.

One of the best costumes I've seen, but as mentioned, the wig could use some work, I can clearly see edges of dark peeking out from under it.
Also I'd use a slightly darker shade of pale foundation so it better covers your natural skin color. Liquid would be best. And I'd skip the under eye pink next time, it works on anime guys but tends to make us poor mortals look somewhat sick.

O___O ohhh badass, but I see you're hair sticking out X] don't be afraid of hair clips to pin short bits back, one boy's sesshie wig was cut and layered to hide his hair color but he used temp hair dye(like spray can kind) to hide it.

You don't have to read 5 pages, just a few posts before your own would suffice. It's rude to ressurrect threads, and IMO, those who are too lazy to use common forum ettiquette, are better off just lurking.

If people want to read a 2-3 year old thread, that's what the search function is for, there's no need to clutter up the front page with old threads.
