an oblong cake...with an interesting feature..if one were to take a slice from an oblong marble cake one would find a marble pattern of chocolate and vanilla (or whatever colours the cake mix were made to be) but in a Battenburg the pattern is that of a 2*2 checkerboard of pink and vanilla sponge and the entire oblong is covered in marzipan....
That's my view of Battenburg!
