Masquerade Rules

This comes from our Masquerade/Cosplay director, Jess Miller. You can reach her through the website (masq (at) anime-la.org).


The categories will be children 13 and under, Novice, Journeyman and Master. Only one costume can be worn by each person, but there is no limit to the number of costumes you can make and have your friends wear!

No unsheathed, edged weapons on stage. All edged weapons must be peace bonded. There will be a weapons master to check them if there are any questions.

No food product-based costumes or messy substances allowed on stage or in the backstage area.

No fire allowed on stage. No projectiles of any sort. If you need to throw something during your presentation, clear it with the director.

No Costume Is Still No Costume.

If you have any questions, ask the director; surprise the audience, NOT the director.

If you have any doubts, ask the director. See above.

Presentations are 30 seconds to 1 minute for one or two entrants, 1 to 2 minutes for groups of three or more. Keep it simple is the best policy.

I have a question, approximately how big will the stage dimensions be? (If you've figured that part out yet?)

What about music and dialogue? Does that all have to be pre-recorded and turned in on CD beforehand?

We can take it on CD, we can take it on tape, and we'll also have a wide-angle microphone aimed at the stage. If you've got dialogue you want to say out loud (let's say you write your script that afternoon) we can deal with it, just speak in a clear, firm voice.

Someone else somewhere asked the size of the stage: 18' wide by 8' deep.

naw justin...you need to do it CD so it comes in load and clear but time it so it looks like you hit it on the tape player.


Questions.

Could you wear a comissioned costume if you aren't going to be entered in craftmenship only preformance?

Is craftmenship entered as a group or as individuals?

Could a person possibly be in two skits in the same or diffrent costume? (no in the same, but yes in diffrent or no period?)

I got an intresting situlation were two friends want me in their skits in diffrent costumes and one wanted me to ask if I could try to do both. Not sure if I would want to but might as well ask.

I have an announcement from our Masquerade Director: she asks if everyone who's planning to enter the Masquerade/Cosplay to please send her e-mail. One message per group is fine -- she just wants to get an idea as to how many entries to expect. (You still have to fill out the entry form when you get to the hotel, though.)

You can enter as a group, I suppose. That's another one for our director I think...

No, period. You can only go on stage once.
