The other day I was messing around making my ghetto Aeris costume, and my friends thought it would be so fun to have a ghetto cosplay photo gathering at Anime Expo! Whether you always ghetto cosplay, want to do it once for a laugh, or well his idea was to actually make fun of people who always ghetto cosplay. For me it's just a fun silly thing. ^.^;; Anyone else like the idea and would you join it if it happened?
Ghetto cosplay just means no buying anything or sewing it. Doesn't necessarily have to look bad! =D

My sister does ghetto cosplay but her defenition is under $20
two of her costumes actually have machine sewing but they were super cheep and easy and quick thus they are 'ghetto'. Only one of her costumes works under the no sew rule. I was thinking she might attend with me and we could wear her costumes but she does sew so I don't know

Well there isn't really any rules - as long as it fits your definition of ghetto... then again I see people with really great costumes and they insult themselves by calling it ghetto when it's so much better than I could ever do. T.T But yeah, I think this would be so fun! XD If you sewed some, it's fine!

ok awsome!
I don't really like the no sewing ideal of ghetto cosplay because some times you can by nice peices and it looks well enough. Ghetto is cost, construction and quaility.
Was it inexpensive? Were you methods of constuction odd and ghetto (ie no real patterns or very very simple patterns with little machine sewing or hand sewing)? Does it look a little ghetto (as in it could look good but can you kind of tell it has ghetto roots)?
so yeah...thats what we go by in my family.
I know there are some out lines for some people. I mean I saw a ghetto cosplay contest thing on the east cost and they had the no sew rulw which buged because my sister wouldn't have been able to enter. In general yeah there are no real rule but thats the rule of them I use for ghetto cosplay

I like this idea. LOL. I don't know what I'll wear, but count me in if it gets popular.

I read about a ghetto-only photoshoot that happened somewhere in like, florida... the stipulations were that you weren't allowed to sew... only safety pins, duct tape and the like were allowed, unless you used "found" items (Like, something from a thrift store or etc.)
'Twould be awesome. I probably wouldn't participate but I'd take pictures!

I'm not sure what you mean by that but do what you like! ^^
Ghetto can mean whatever you want it to guys!! For me, it means no sewing, because I get anal about it and try to make it perfect and sewing means a lot of effort. For me it's something I kind of half-assed put together as a joke, like the Aeris costume in my gallery. It's so innacurate it's not even funny!! XD I want to do one of Saga from Sugar next - I have all the stuff, just half to put it on and get someone to take my photo.
As for the ghetto photoshoot thing they had in Florida (I can't find the page about it anymore!!) Well, if they didn't have the new sewing rule, than you'd have people with really well-made elaborate costumes that look perfect entering. Wait, they did - they just had to get creative and use hot glue or safety pins like Hime no Toki's Hikaru and the Di Gi Charat group people did! XD Those costumes looked great! I think that made it actually more of a challenge to make it look good. In a sense, I don't think most of those costumes were actually "ghetto" because they took a serious amount of effort, and someone said it was harder than making a costume where they actually could sew and buy things!! XD So yeah I think that was a different kind of ghetto, but still interesting. It was like a cosplay contest with an interesting challenging twist.

I plan wear my Ghettokai (Ghetto Hakkai). Its in my gallery. I'm not sure if its REALLY all too ghetto though... ^^0 Sure the pants are to small and have a heart on the butt, and the shirt is ribknit with no buttons, and he has a ponytail. My sis says its more resourceful than ghetto... But if there is one, Ill be there.
