From Anime-cons.com (http://www.anime-cons.com):
No plans for Big Apple Anime Fest 2005
John O'Donnell of Central Park Media, one of the organizations responsible for Big Apple Anime Fest, has informed Anime-Cons.com that he is "unaware of any plans for BAAF 2005 at this time."

... so I could care less. :/
An interesting essay on the usage of "could [not] care less". (http://www.worldwidewords.org/qa/qa-ico1.htm)
And apologies for the messed up title. That should be "No BAAF", not "No BAA". ^_^;;

Well if I remember correctly, wasn't BAAF 04 cancelled too? So I would image AnimeNEXT 05 would be about the size. I don't even know how many people were there... 6000?? I completely guessed on that one..

I'm sure it'll be really big this year. x.x If BAAF is over with and Shoujocon is no more, not to mention Onnafest's really strict system to the public, most likely yes it's gonna be huge. ^^;; It's in a bigger place, with more ppl who know about it. x.x But then again maybe not that many ppl might come since so many complained last year. >< Whiners.

BAAF didnt' happen in 2004 because of the Republican Convention

BAAF didnt' happen in 2004 because of the Republican Convention
That's why they said it didn't happen, but I think there was more to it. I went to BAAF back in 2001 back when it was at the Central Park Plaza hotel, and they announced that they signed a contract with the hotel for 2002-2005. It was big news back then. I know a bit about contracts, and there are a few ways to get out of them:
1) Cancellation with penalty
2) Mutual agreement from both parties (the hotel and the client, BAAF)
3) Buy-out by a 3rd-party (in this case the RNC)
If BAAF really wanted to go on during the RNC, they could have since they held a contract for the Labor Day weekend dates. Cancelling is always an option, but typically the penalty for doing so is sufficiently large that you wouldn't do so. It must be either the second or third option. They either decided not to run because of the concerns about the RNC, or 2002 showed that it was not economically viable to run the event in the Marriott and they chose to cut their losses when the RNC approached them about buying out their contract.
I suspect that they didn't do quite as well in 2002 as they led us to believe, so when the RNC approached them about buying out their contract.

Shoujocon has been reborn as Ohnafest, but it's attendance cap is about 450. It will not really affect the attendance in the area.
With BAAF out of the picture, AnimeNEXT is the only major New York tri-state anime convention. Genericon and I-Con have anime venues, but Genericon's attendance cap is only about 500, and I-Con is primarily a science fiction convention.
Since BAAF was cancelled in 2004, and AnimeNEXT reported attendance over their estimates, they moved their venue to a convention center. I expect attendance to grow yet again.

Genericon doesn't have a attendance cap.Primiliary speaking due to the fact that it is held on a college campus and held in the dead of winter the attendance is usually held down for those two reason.Upstate Ny can be very cold during the winter(genericon 17 is a perfect example of this).Plus where the con is held on campus tends funnel the wind so the breeze tends to pick up a bit so when you step outside it seems a little colder.
I think due the facts that of baaf not being around plus onnacon being limited this con will be a definte good size this year.

That's why they moved the place for the event to somewhere bigger.
