Guys, these smilies rock... anyways, My little bro Nick Cobbs and I are going to attend the A-kon. We have desperate need of 2 things. 1) the ADDRESS!! 2) We need to know where to get supplies for my Cloud costume and his Squall costume. We both have 30" waists, both 5'8"-5'9", both t-shirt size M... I need the shoulder Guard(where can I find a rubber thing shaped like that?), he needs metal for his pants, I need a blonde DBZ or other really spiky wig(my hair is a hazel/golden blonde naturally... cant do a thing with the color... or stand it up. Very fine, lots of body)... well I can't remember all we need, so Ill post again with a complete list, but for now ANY help would be much appreciated! :skidude2:
BTW- our scanners wont work on WinXP Pro(no driver...), and we dont have a digital camera of any kind, so we cant give sketches... :(

Are you going to make the costumes yourself or would you commission some of the parts? http://a-kon.com/hotel.html < They have posted the full address of the A-kon. I hope I can help.

Well for one thing you need the weapons ^^ I suggest if you're not making them too big then use wood. If you don't care if they wobble, then use fiberglass. Or if you can possibly find some plastic and construct them yourself with lotsa hot glue. For the clothes...like if you need a vest or anything but you don't have a vest, you can always cut the front of a shirt and paint it or something. Now pants I'm thinking find some pants you don't care for, and edit them with the pattern of either Squall or Cloud. Now I'm thinking for Cloud's shoulder thingy don't use rubber, that can get expensive. So if you have the skill, try constructing it with a plastic.

Oh and about your scanner thingy you can try using paint to make a visual. I mean the visual doesn't have to be perfect, just have the right idea. Have fun with the costumes!

I'm Sarin_Elf's younger brother Nick (younger by 2 years, making me 18.) and I wanted to thank you for the help you've given the both of us. Ah yes, and I go under the surname "Uber" on posts, and the pen-name "Uber_Erzengel" when doing artwork and all that good stuff.

Thanks for the paint idea, but I think I'll just try and figure out how to get another printer cable for scanner #2 and a power supply for it. I do a webcomic, even though it isn't up again yet... (see signature for explanation) and I already did sketches for the visuals.

Most of the materials we'll be using will be materials we already had. For Squall, I'll just get an overshirt and cut it, use the pants I already have, except maybe sew some sheet metal or something to them, get a helluva lot of belts, and leather gloves. I don't think I'll be doing the gunblade, though. I have a katana that I'm fixing up that should work.

The problem we have is money's gonna be tight, so we'll have to work with what little we can find. We'll probably figure something out that won't cost too much, but just in case, how much does making a costume usually cost? I mean, a well done one?

Well a well done costume ussually costs me around $150 maybe less. For more elborate ones like those from Shin Shougoku Musou, I could spend about $400.

...And then, of course, my first costume which was Clow Read, cost me less than $50 for all the supplies. Sales and bargain racks are you friends ^^ Squall and Cloud both have fairly civilian clothes, except for all the little accesories, if memory serves me, so you could try going to a thrift store or Goodwill or the Salvation Army and seeing if you can find whatever clothing items you need. As for the shoulder guard, I think someone mentioned using plastic...I think methodcosplay.com has some tutorials on making armor and such out of plastic, or at least links to some, however they just revamped the site, and that page won't be back up for another day or so. Check then. Hope that helps some ^^

Well once (aka like the 2002 Halloween ^^;;;) I made a really crappy Tasuki from Fushigi Yuugi outfit and it didn't cost me a dime. Thank god my mom is into crafts ^^;;;;

But a good idea to get things for cheap is to go to a craft show, go to garage sales, and like malls. Have fuuuuun! I bet I will with mine -_-

I would personally like to sommision them from professional dealers, but it seems we are rather pressed for fundage. That and we have very few clothers. He and I both have 2 pair of pants that dont have the knees blown out or arent military fatigues. Tru we have a lot of shirts, but they are mostly t-shirts and likely wouldnt work. We need pointers to keep cost down, as we have not until now done cosplay costume making and know actually very little about it. I will look at the links provided and yes now we have a map to the hotel. Thank you all very much for the help :)
I want to also mention that we have yet to get a vehicle to travel down with, so that takes priority over the costumes, but we will be doing what we can with our current situation.

It is amazingly difficult for a n00b to log in as himself when not realizing they are using someone else's profile.. That was me that posted last, not my bro Uber... ack. :( Sorry folks, for the misunderstanding!
