Shoujocon 2002 con report

This year's con was better than last year. Aw hell, it was better than Animazement 2002!

I was on staff this year. I ran the karaoke. I also was co-emcee of the cosplay. I had gotten there Thursday afternoon with my roomate about 6:15. We strolled around and saw the setup for the Karaoke. We were going to stay one night with a friend. Unfortunatedly he never made it due to car troubles. We crashed in the consuite.

Friday... I was in the Karaoke room from 2 to 8. I didn't know there was a lightning storm out either. ^^; There were some rough edges to the karaoke, but it ran smoothly with the help of Anthony and Andre (thanks fellas). I missed the AMVs because I was running around doing a lot of other things. The night at the dance. It was a small crowd. Normally at a con dance, I'd expect a lot of moshing, freaknik dancing, but it wasn't like that at all. I had a few dances, so it was cool, met some cute girls.

Saturday... Main concern, the cosplay. Me and Anna got it together with the help of Erin (Thank You). I had a lot of fun with it, especially the mini games we threw in while the judges made thier decisions. Later on that night, trouble began to brew. There was an overflow from another con. A bunch of frat boys/jocks from a car convention. Seems that they were causing a lot of problems for us. So we went in full lockdown mode. I scrapped the dance and went into security mode. I was up until 6AM on detail, making sure that everyone got to their rooms. What pissed me off that the hotel didn't do a damn thing about it! We had to call the police in because some stuff that went down. Two girls were almost raped, a 12 y/o was pulled into a frat party and given her alcohol. They basically harrassed the congoers.

Sunday... Things went pretty well. The staff addressed the problems. The frat boys/jocks were escorted out of the hotel around 10AM. Too late for me if you ask.

Despite the problems, I had a great time. Seems that Shoujocon may be have a change of venue which I am hoping for. Being a staffer was hard work and I enjoyed every piece of it. I can't wait until next year, because I may have a new co MC and new ideas!

Hey its you! Muaha its the insane lil girl who cosplayed Nyan-Nyan. I wasnt there when that entire thing happened.. my friends and i got kinda sorta bored and didnt wanna wait till the dance, so we hung out in the con suite and watched sum Magic Users Club and 'This is Otaku-dom' then we just left... damn we missed all the fun chaos... my chance to show you aka Ranma what good martial arts is... RUN! ^^;; yea im poor now... blew $96 on the 2nd season of Ranma 1/2 on DVD box set... *cries* I love it sooo much. Well it was deffinitly awesome and I love it... I wish it was longer... but now it over and im sad... im going into anime withdrawl... i started talking in japanese to my parents and they flipped out... as for the entire frat/jock thing... exactly why my mom wont lemme go to cons... lets only hope she never finds out bout this...

Sorry to hear that a few of our frat boy jocks got in the way of your anime
party, Unfortunately the two groups were not
aware of each other. While some of us tried to make heads or
tails of what your group was about it seems that your group or at least you as
Grand Poobaa passed judgment on a group of Car
enthusiasts that were also just trying to have a good time.
As far as the 12 year olds and alcohol what are two little girls
doing running around a Hotel unescorted late at night dressed as little school
girls. Seems a little dicey if you ask me. Also we weren't escorted out your car
show had started early Sunday morning. It also seemed that the general
concensus with the hotel people was we weren't the only strange one's running
amuck in the hotel. Please try to keep the derogatory comments
to yourself. If there was a problem then let the police handle it.
If there ever was a problem.

Bah... Listen, I don't know how you found this site, nor do I care. You and your frat boys got out of line. You 'car enthusiasts' were more concerned with recording footage of girls in their costumes, making rude remarks, acting like children. It seems that your crew has never been to an anime convention before. And yes we did allow the police to handle it. What you should do is simply apologize to those who were bothered by your goons.

Let's see, you placed banners everywhere declaring who you were, yet you wonder how we found this site... who is a moron? As far as children go, you didn't see me dressed in a car costume, champ. I stopped Halloween when I was twelve.

Not everyone who likes cars are fratboys or jocks. Not everyone who likes anime are geeks. We didn't make generalizations about you, don't make them about us. If you were threatened by our presence due to some persecution complex you've been harboring, you have my sympathy. If more than one car goon getting into an elevator with you causes you to freak out, seek professional help. The real world contains people a lot worse than us, trust me. I didn't judge you, but you just labeled me because cars are my hobby.

Calling people you know nothing about "goons" and "morons" makes you no better than the people that offended you and your fellow convention goers. You want an apology? Then stop your own ignorance. It works both ways.

True we did place banners all over the place, but we rented out the hotel nonetheless. Yes, you are a morons. Most Fratboys and Jocks never use thier brains.

There is a difference between Halloween and Cosplay. Too bad your little brain housing groups cannot comprehend the difference.

Frankly we didn't mind you guys there, but when you ruan around causing hell and chaos, that when it matters. You're supposed friends scared a lot of congoers.

I don't expect an apology out of you. Your own ignorance shows it. Now shut up, move along please, you're blocking traffic.
