So, yes, it's been almost 2 weeks since the con, but I still have a lot of questions...
I was there only on Saturday, (and late at that) so I can't help but feeling left out.
I clipped this from my journal to summarize my experience this year:
"...I wandered around a bit to familiarize myself with the locale. (It was definitely a step up from the 2003 Hotel-under-construction site.) But by the time we'd got there I'd already missed several important presentations (and all the anime I would've been interested in seeing.) I took stock, and realized there was very little I could still accomplish in one day, later compounding my realization that there really is no half-way with the con. You have to commit to it a year in advance to afford the whole weekend... so it becomes a very exclusive business. You're either in or out... it takes a lot of planning to get "in"... and after 2 years (or 22, depending on your perspective) I'm still not there.
There were so many presentations I wish I could've seen, especially regarding the situation I'm in now!
For all that there was cool to see, there is so much an attitude of reservation at the con... but it goes both ways, I suppose. For everyone who has an exciting time meeting people and making new friends, there are many who don't talk to or meet Anyone.
Once I'd left I felt this incredible void, like... "There I was, in the heart of all the people who are truly my kind, sharing the same interests and illusions, and now they're gone!"
Where did they go? I know they're all still out there... but where do they vanish to inbetween the cons, and why is it so hard to find them?
I'm looking harder, trying to integrate the network seperated by time and space, (at least as much as is conveniently possible) but I find it too hard to believe that everyone would just go back to a mundane life except for that one day of the year...
'not to say there should be more than one con every year... (in Colorado) One's enough. It's great.
But we should all be more connected in the interim. If anyone has any ideas or links, please let me know.
Thanks~ ^ ^:
