OK~! I'm new to cosplay. Never really sewed before except by hand although my mom is pretty good at sewing.. Anyways.. A friend of mine wants me to attend a con as Kagome from Inu Yasha.. I was wondering how hard it would be to make a school uniform.. ^^; If I was able to make school uniforms there would be a large amount of character I could cosplay.. lol.. SO.. is it really all that hard and how would I go about making it?

I can't help with the tops, but skirts you can do with patterns - just gotta know how to do pleats.

I THINK I've discovered how to make the collar.... don't take my word on it, though, I haven't tried it. You need, like, a square or something of the fabric you want for the collar, and you put two of the corners that are next to each other together to form the bottom of the V in front..... I have NO CLUE if I'm right or not. If anyone reads this and happens to know, please tell me, alright? ^^;

::sigh:: I just finished a Kagome costume, the skirt isn't too hard, but yeah, try a pattern (I work without patterns, which is not smart) The collar was the worst part, i re-did it about 3 times, just keep trying, you'll get better as you go ^.^
I used the cheerleader pattern from McCalls and Butterick. One for the skirt and the other for the top. I forget which one was which but if you look, you can pick out which ones you want to use.
The sailor collar was just me cutting a piece of test fabric (muslin), plopping it down on the collar and trimming as I went and then I used that to cut out the real collar. I hear folkwear patterns has an actually sailor uniform pattern if you want to try them.
