Another Newbie....

Right, so, uh, hello everyone!

I'm pretty new to the "scene", so to speak, and although I've tried to pull off some cosplay here and there, it's been fairly minimalistic. Anyway, I'm thinking about heading down to A-kon this year, and so (of course) I'd like to dress the part. Here's where you all come in, I'd like some advice on costumes (i.e., what's hot or not, and what's just down right cool). Here are some things to keep in mind....

I'm 6'3", 160lbs, white (Too bad. I hear the asian variety is more "desireable" :p ), short(er) brown hair (though I'm not oposed to dyeing), and my preferance (as far as characters) tend to be the bishounen type (no, I'm not gay).

So, if anyone would be so kind as to shoot me a few ideas, I'd be greatly appreciative. If nothing else, I thinking Wolfwood (since, and I mean no offence to anyone, but I do have the build for tall, dashing, hell, I'll even go so far as to say handsome :D characters).

I know, I know, I'll work on humility....later....

First off, welcome to the boards, Jem. Who are your favorite anime characters? You could start with those, preferably simple outfits unless you have previous costuming skill (or plan to have a costume made).

Well, truthfully, most of what I've seen (as far as anime) has been "main stream", that is, Trigun, Evangelion, Sailor Moon (of which, I do have to admitt, I have a personal love for), etc. Like you said, a simple costume may be best, but I would also like to wear something that will be recognizable (I really hate it when people ask, "so, who are you again?"). Anyway, I guess your response would pose another question, what all is popular (i.e. "new) in the anime genre? Most of what I get around to seeing is, well, perhaps a little passe. Maybe some advice on up-comming animes to watch, or things that are pretty recent would help too.

I'm open to anything. Hell, if a popular vote were to occur, I'm sure I'd figure out some way to make it work. So, does anyone out there have a favorite?
