Greetings to all, and I'll just get right down to business.

I am completely new to cosplaying, and I am planning to go to a convention soon as Genjo Sanzo from Gensoumaden Saiyuki. The first thing I need help on is the Kimono: What type of material should I use, and how should I go about making it? Second is the tight, black clothing (material?) And third, where may I find such type of costume materials, online if possible.....Any help would be great, thanks.

Welcome. I'm not that good in sewing but if you search discount fabric stores on yahoo or google your sure to come up on a few. ^_^ Hope to see you around.

Simplicity makes a pattern for kimonos now, and I think Butterick does as well.. check the costume sections in the pattern books.

As for materials, use what is similar to what kimonos are already made of. (I don't know waht that is, so you'll hafta find out. =B)

howdy!!
the pattern is a good ideal and I think the Butternick is a good one, its rather simple.
As for the fabric there are some online stores you can buy fabric at reasonable prices but you can also go to your local wal-mart. I've found excellent fabric at dirty cheap prices like a buck a yard! I would suggest a cotton fabric, maybe broadcloth or something with more substance like tee-shot.
I hope this helps.

I think you should use silk...
