Red XIII! o.o

Yeah, I may be completely insane, and for some reason attempting something far beyond my level, but I am going to try to make a Red XIII costume! ^^;; Yes, I'll be running around a con on four paws... it would be so awesome, though! ^^ I've gotten it planned out in my head, and it seems like it will work fine in theory... but who knows how it'll be in practice. o.O I'm still going to try, though... the ambitions of Kusanagi with Dart and the transformer and everything showed me that if it seems possible, it is, if you try hard enough... ^-^ I'm hoping to have it done by Otakon. If you happen to have any random suggestions or anything, I'd be glad to hear them! ^^ Thank nyu!

Oh my gawd! that would be awesome to have a Red XIII costume! I would love to see in-progress and completed pictures....but ummm....as for structure wise...for stability on the legs you might want to use short stilts for your front legs and back legs....and if you are making a cloth type body suit I suggest putting the zipper on the upper part where you would have the wig covering it mostly...and make sure the costume leaves you enough visablilty and ability to breathe! oh yes and we can't forget very good ventilation is a must...now I never made a costume that goes into extreme detail and matter such as this...these are just my suggestions and are not to be taken serious in anyway...they are just there for structure help...as I have learned in wood shop a very long time ago....and when I went to the circus....

I've done a Red XIII costume, but it wasn't of the actual character, I sort of made a human version and wore it to AXNY. ^^ There's pictures in my gallery... Red is my favorite FFVII character, and I can't wait to see how you do with it! :D :D :D

Yay, thank you! ^-^ I'll try to take pictures of it in-progress. It'd be kinda funny to look at those afterwards anyway... ^^;; And thanks for the suggestions!

I was actually already thinking of having short 'arm-stilts', since legs are longer than arms and it would be weird to try it without them. But then I came across the problem of having the legs be too long compared to the body... so I thought I could make it so that my knees are bent, but you can't tell by the way the costume is shaped. It would get really tiring to walk like that, though... ^^;; Oh well. I can't expect to do this costume and -not- get tired walking around in it... it will be really hot, too. I'll deal with it... ^^;;

As for seeing, I noticed that your head generally points down when walking like that, and it's hard to keep it looking straight forward... my friend suggested a periscope(sp?)-type thing, with little mirrors in the head. I thought about that too, but I'm afraid it might not stay perfectly aligned... plus the way we were thinking, the image would be upside-down. I could try to get used to that, but it would get confusing on stairs and such... o.O ... "Look! Red XIII's rolling down the escalator!" ... XD

And thanks for pointing out breathing ability too... for some reason, I hadn't really thought about that... XD... oops. (that's another problem with the mirrors... they would get all fogged up... heh)

I've never made a costume anywhere near this difficult either, but there's a first for everything, I guess... ^^ thanks for all the help! ^-^

^^ I checked the page (and actually it was page 9, or page 5 if you're looking at 24 at a time)... that's pretty cool! ^^ Though it's probably different than what I'm going to end up doing, since I want to try to make it as accurate-seeming as possible... which is hard, because people just aren't built that way. ^^;; But yeah, that's closer than anything else I've seen.

Also, when I was thinking about the seeing problem, I thought it'd be pretty funny if I got a Hojo to walk me on a leash... XD... I don't think I'm gonna do that, though. XD

^^ Now, I've also been thinking of doing something to the furry fabric to make it look kind of worn and not all one flat color. Because if you think about it, if he'd been through so much and fought all those battles and everything, his fur wouldn't be all pretty... so I'm trying to figure out the best way to give that kind of effect.

Also I'm wondering how to do the flame on the end of his tail. I guess I could just make a little fluff ball on the end, but it wouldn't really look like fire. I also thought of putting a little night light/Christmas light bulb in the fluff, and having a wire go through the tail and connect to a little battery. Does that sound like a good idea?

back in... '99 I think... I did a Red XIII costume. Of course it was a cut off top and a skirt ^^;; It was just a cute thing. then I did a moogle like it... and now they're everywhere!!! *lol*

to make parts of the furr look worn you could try taking hair wax to the furr to make clumps (picture a ratty-haired outside kitty)... then if you want to have more fun, you could add fake blood (or a reddish brown paint) to the tips of the hair clumps with a fine comb or something. *shrug* just a thought. (but this is coming from the girl who's making a costume whose prop is a severed head in a metal cage... o_O) ^_^;;

It would certainly be a first...try to make it from paper mache for the head, and the rest you can do with cloth! XD

Yeah, I was thinking I'd probably do the head that way, and maybe put some of the fur cloth on it too, to keep the continuity of it. ^^ All the problems with sight and breathing are annoying, though... o.O

red XIII is awesome. i've been researching ways and materials to make him for quite some time (since he's my dream costume and fav. character) i'm debuting him at akon!

but have you seen how he looks in advent children? kinda...motley...kinda dirty and ugly. makes me sad, ya know? he looks like a stray!!
