I know it is a Chinese styled loli dress, but has anyone made one? I have found very few pictures of this certain dress design.

And, I have a Mardarin collared shirt...would be weird to do a casual qi-loli outfit?

I'll be making a qi-loli soon. Since it's a pretty rare style it's hard to find stuff on it. I see nothing wrong with a casual qi-loli.

A lot of the newer gothic lolita bibles have a few images of qi loli in them...

here's a couple images I found:

Thank you for the pictures! I have found very few of this particular style.

Although, most of these pictures seem to only have red fabrics for the cheongsam part of the dress. I wonder why? I think if I were to make one for a lolita look, I would use a different color of brocade satin than that....Or, would that show up horribly wrong in photos?

Also, as I mentioned I would really like to do a more casual look with the qi-loli style...so, if I got a shirt like this in black:

What color skirt should be worn?

Qutie Frash has a LOT of qi-loli outfits... KERA shops sell a lot of their stuff, too. some of their dresses are HOT *0*

I'm sure you could use other colors for a Qi-loli besides red, It's just that red stands out as being a very 'chinese' color. I think that's why it's used so much. I plan on getting a pretty gold/yellow or maybe a purple for mine.

With that shirt maybe you could wear a poofy black skirt? I think black looks nice with the brocades. ^^;

I've got a qi-loli design that is waiting for fabric and time. I'm not planning on using red at all, since it's not a very flattering color on me; actually, I'd love a bright green brocade and, coincidentally, was thinking of using one with butterflies.

Squee Bunny, the black top has so many colors from the butterflies you could pick up on. You could actually make a few different skirts to suit your mood; I think a lavender-pink or gold would be lovely, but of course there's always black too.

EDIT: Pearl River (http://www.pearlriver.com/v2/sub_brocade.html) has quite a few Chinese-print fabrics for sale, but their prices are a little costly.

this is my take on the under outfit. I know it's not exactly the same, my shoulders aren't quite as puffy and my skirt is more plain. I just wanted something casual that I can wear to class once and a while. I hope it looks lolita enough on it's own! I'll be starting on the 'smock' tomorrow ^^

I think the design and how you made it looks great! The only thing I can see is that the skirt is a little to short...maybe add some fabric to the bottom?

Hmm, after reading this thread has given me the idea to take the old Chinese dress I have and fashion it loli-style. xD;

XD you guys always get me with the skirt! I like short skirts even if it's 'un-loli' like. I think my skirt is actually longer than the original?
I am wearing the skirt really high up, like empress style, so i guess I'll just have to remeber to pull it down a bit next time ^^;
