Hey all...well, I've decided to make my first ever Lolita dress. The problem is, I'm having problems finding patterns to use at my local craft store...I have trouble using the patterns in the gosurori bible, and I was thinking I'd just alter a pattern from Butterick or Simplicity.
Can anyone recommend a good one, though?

with the influx of summer dresses and the new direction of american fashion (lots of lace, girlish prints, etc. etc.) there's alot of patterns in the newer books.
Also, I've found that some of the mary magdalene dresses resemble in part a few 50's patterns I have.. (http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/butterick/shop.cgi?s.item.B4790=x&TI=10002&page=1

Modify the shoulders on that dress, and the shape of the bust.. and the sleaves and you could possibly get yourself something like this:

Get a gothic and lolita bible if you have a japanese store nearby or you can order it online from jpop house. Instant dress pattern, though... I forgot which ones have the actual dresses.. I think... #20 does? I'm not sure, I'm sorry.

I have trouble using the patterns in the bible though...they're hard to understand. I'm sticking with English patterns!

That pattern would be very odd to modify, since it's only connected at the shoulders. The inner piece wraps around 3/4 of the body and buttons in the back. The back piece has a circle skirt attached and hangs loose and open while buttoned in the front. It looks like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v519/ChibiRinoa/IMG_0349.jpg when finished. It's very easy to sew, and the circle skirt pattern is great, but there are patterns that are a little easier to modify out there.
These dresses:

would work well with an altered flare at the hips to be able to fit over a petticoat.
Any princess shell dress would work with added straps and enough volume in the skirt.
This is a great blouse pattern: http://www.simplicity.com/assets/6599/6599.jpg
There are lots of great loli-able patterns out there, depending on the style you're looking to create.
