Petticoat Flattening?

Is it possible to flatten or lessen the bulk of a petticoat/tutu. I believe it is a tutu, borrowed from my friend because I cannot find the exactly size and shape petticoat that I want. It is a very nice lenght, but it poofs out a little too much right at my bum, which I really don't need ANY extra poof there. I tied it with a ribbon and am keeping it flat for the time being until the con. Is this the best action? or is there a better and faster way to lessen the bulk? Please help asap....con is on friday....

Netting/tule is quite hard to try to unpuff out, maybe get it wet, and use lots of ribbon/string to tie is very very tightly into a tube shape (if you know what I mean ) X_x and maybe it will fold down a bit

That's what I am doing right now, tying it tight and all. Plus, when I actually wear it I might just tie it where I don't want it to poof out. Hopefully it'll work fine.

Awww...If I had any advice on that I'd give it to ya. Which I have one that might help, I hope...Try getting one of those ironing arms (but don't iron the petticoat!) and put a rubber band around the bottom when it's on the ironing arm. The key might be to get the ironing "arm" to "wear" the petticoat then put the rubberband at the bottom. I hope this helps :bigtu:

Like the White Rabbit, I seem to be late. You can iron the thing, but you won't get results that you can control. Here is a hardcore yet easy technique for the permanent modification on the tutu stuff. It should be useful for others who have the opportunity to try it out:

♣ Lay the petticoat down on your table or put it on your mannequin with the back of the skirt is facing you. It's the side that your bum touches. If the waist measures 34" for example, you should be looking at only 17" of it.

♣ Identify the center line and place a pin into the top of it, on the waist line. That would be 8.5" in this example.

♣ Measure about two-thirds out from this point. That's 6" left and 6" right on this particular waistline. Place a pin at each location. Then tape or pin from each point down the length of the skirt. Here's a diagram:

♣ Now pin and sew (at least) three lines across the area of the skirt. If it is netting, go through one layer only. If it is a sturdier fabric, then go through at least two layers of it. The lines should be evenly spaced so that you bring down that poofiness evenly. Use a sturdy thread of any color for running stitch (easy), zig-zag (easy-medium), or even embroidery (medium-hard).

♣ If you want to flatten your piece more, then add more lines or increase the complexity of your embroidery.

Since the person requested to flatten the backside, I started off by defining the back area. The instructions above can be used to add a cute accent to any side of the petticoat.

Thank you for your help. Although late, it might help me in the future. Unfortunately I couldn't have done this because it was borrowed from my friend and I caouldn't do anything permanent with it.
