I'm planning on doing a Aristocrat costume for AN07, so i have lots of time and i have a pretty good image in my head on what i want for it, but I'm having trouble finding any "Poofy" pants, a good example i can think of is Souseiseki from Rozen Maiden, Here is a reference:

I'm not too great at sewing (as in i've never done it before) so i think making it from scratch is a bit out of the picture, so yea, any help would be very much appreaciated

A simple pair of poofy shorts is a nice project to start on! Assuming, of course, you don't have to deal with a fly. ^^;; You could also try a website or something--maybe commission them.

If you don't want to sew it from scratch (which could be pretty easy with an appropriate pattern), you can try to modify existing pants. Here's how I'd do it :
- Take a pair of rather baggy pants, cut them around knee length.
- Take the fabric you cut, and cut two rectangles in it ; the width should be twice the width of the bottom part, plus seams ; the length the thigh circumference, plus a couple of inches, plus seams.
- If the fabric is too flowy, iron some interfacing on it.
- Fold each rectangle in half, long ends together, good side inside ; at each end, sew the two layers of fabric together, then turn around.
- Gather the bottom of the shortened pants.
- Sew your bands at the bottom ; make sure to leave about an inch of the band free at one end
- Sew a couple of press studs where the two ends overlay, so they close nicely.

I'm not sure for the gathering part ; you may have to diminish their width by sewing the bottom of the shortened pants directly, in order to make it look closer.

x.x Wowow
I guess i'll be picking up a pair of large dress pants next time in town ^^
I think i have an idea on how to do it, o.o hope a sewing machine isnt needed for this cause i don't have one

Just in case my ability to forge these pants fails completely, anyone have any sites that would commission or sell these?

Metamorphose is a brand name that has exactly those type of pants except in black

that looks like an AWESOME costume... giving me some inspiration, definitely.

agree, if not in to the cost of the example, I'd go with whateverone else said. get a pair of pants, probably gaberdine to give the "flowy feel" - dress pants, then cut them below the knee. cut cuffs out of the left over fabric - fit them to your legs and then sew the cuffs back on. i'd fit them to your legs -- you also might want to put side buttons so that you can pull them on and then button them tight at the cuffs on the side.

looks like it will be a great costume, you have so inspired me as well...

Cut off a pair of baggy pants, find some wide ribbon, and ask a sales clerk for Iron-on fusible webbing, that's to fasten the ribbon to the pants. Then you can use some self-stick velcro to fasten the ribbon around your legs.

Cutting off baggy pants seems to be the answer im looking for, wouldnt be surprised if i go through a couple pairs of pants, but in the long run it'd still be cheaper than the site listed x.x wow, 120$ for the cheapest pair, Now for the white leggings, would those be just white stockings or are there actual tight cloth pants i can use (I'm thinking Longjohns or pajamas a few sizes small for that, but then length would be a problem)

thigh highs in opague white, can be pulled up over the knee. i think they have them at like Target or something. - I dont know if they have them all the time or only during the winter....

do you have the shirt. that looks like it'd be a lot more difficult to make, probably have to buy something like that with the sleeves

I'm not actually cosplaying Souseiseki, just stealing her pants ^^ i already have a shirt/waistcoat and other stuff for my upper half, didnt think of socks though, could possibly find some Soccer Socks o.o i think they go up high enough

HMmm soccer socks tend to be thick and have a chunky knit look... i would recommend going to zellers/walmart to look for stockings/thigh highs like natsukoarts recommended...

I'm gonna warn you that if you alter existing pants, you can't simply stick ribbon or surplus fabric around the knees because the fabric will bunch. You have to take that into account. Actually for a first time job you may want to try elastic instead-- not "period" by any means, but you could also use a drawstring, which is, er, sort of period. Otherwise, as Ashurachan mentioned you'll have to carefully gather the fabric.

Poofy pants are QUITE easy to sew without a real pattern; I've made 3 or 4 pairs so far, in knee-length, calf-length, and ankle-length, and they were one of the first projects I ever sewed on a machine. The crotch is the only fiddly part, otherwise it's just straight lines.

question regarding fabric quality on Aristocrat, are there any rules on fabric types, like gaberdine vs other cloth...

and hats, are there any regulations on top hats, height etc... and cane lengths?

sorry total aristocrat newbie, sounds totally interesting

Hi :)
I'm new to the forum but I thought I'd try and reply to this thread... if I'm not mistaken, there's some kind of 'poofy pants' available at www.inthespotlight.com (in the pants section, obviously). It's an American site though, so if you're from a different country then it may be a hassle ordering it...

OT: This is thread razzing, so you might want to post a new thread in case a mod closes this.

In any case, are you refering to EGA or the Aristocrat style in general. EGA is a coined term by Mana and only really refers to his line of clothing called Moi Meme Moitie, which is sold at CD Japan. Aristocrat is a style of clothing which really isn't lolita, but related. Other than f+f I can't think of any other place to by Aristocrat clothing.

EGA = plain old Gothic aristocrat is just Mana trying to be cool and give an already existing fashion a new name (he does that alot)

so just look for gothic aristocrat/Victorian goth stuff which you can find at almost any good (or even just mediocre) goth store like dracinabox, shrine of hollywood or something and you’ll be good….its just a matter of having a fashion sense and knowing what looks good, and how to coordinate it in a good "EGA" way since there are alot of goths that mix gothic aritocrat with goth fashion for a more modern look.
and here are some other sites you might find usefull:

gentleman semporium (www.gentlemansemporium.com/)
atelier boz (http://www.boz.ne.jp/)
black peace now (http://www.peacenow.net)
miho metsuda (http://www.mihomatsuda.jp/)

and afcourse ebay. just get creative with key words and you'll find something.
