Always glad to see people getting into J-rock :) Kyo is the vocalist for Dir en Grey, their sound is a bit harder than most popular J-rock. What particular kinds of music are you interested in? Might be easier to have an idea what you're looking for than just running off a list of names. Tho some of my favorites are Duel Jewel, Malice Mizer, Pierrot, Luna Sea, and Penicillin.

04-03-2003, 12:23 PM
I think maybe this thread needs to be moved to the music forum ^^

here's my response anyway :B -->

X Japan and hide are classics :D If you want a full list of all the bands I have listened to and liked (either a lot, or enough to listen to them again) go here (http://www.shakin-shakin.net/bandlist.txt) lol

there are majors, indies, jrock, jpop, a little Chinese too actually :B, some are great bands, some are bubbly fluff, some are not so good bands, some are fluffy with a little bit of substance, and some are in between all of that ^^;;

04-06-2003, 02:53 PM
Dir en Grey is the absolute best!!! and Duel Jewel is the best indies j-rock band ive ever heard, plus they are touring US conventions like A-cen, A-Kon, and Katsucon.

04-07-2003, 02:18 AM
well for the rock and metal catagory
.anthem-heavy metal
.animetal-metal versions of anime tunes
.aikawa nanase-pop/rock
.the brilliant green-melodic rock
.concerto moon-prog rock/metal
fatima hill-prog rock/metal
.manipulated slaves-melodic death metal
.onmyo-za-heavy metal/folk
.sex machineguns-speed metal
.seikima II-heavy metal
.shina ringo-rock
.hard gear-heavy metal

there's a starter for ya!

04-07-2003, 01:16 PM
I've you're in to straight up rock music, I suggest:

Aucifer (pronounced Lucifer)
La'Cryma Christi
Janne Da Arc

None of those bands tends to be extremely visual (at least in the Malice Mizer/Dir en Grey sense), but they're all good for rockin' out.

04-08-2003, 10:51 PM
haha they listed basically everything already---Hmm I like BAISER too....(Endorphine because they broke up, and i haven't have time to listen to Swallowtail yet.) Oh, and lareine is good too....hmmmm and---------->> silver ash even though they're chinese.

04-09-2003, 11:05 PM
I think you should listen to some of the indie and visual rock like Kagerou, vidoll, d'espaires rey, fatima and duel jewel. Check out this site. It's japanese but you dont have to know it to understand whats going on. They have sound bites for most of the bands and you can check out their site and what they look like.

Also Dir en Grey and Pierrot are reallllly goood too~!!~

:: hops in :: Lemme see, what I listen to are groups like The Seeker and Iceman (techno kinda rock) oh and Masami Okui is always one to listen to. She's awesome. I also like Meguimi Ogata

04-10-2003, 05:02 PM
I recommend Janne Da Arc. They are my favorite band.

Though I also like Dir en Grey, Pierrot and Buck Tick ^-^

(I am real surprised that Americans know all these bands, a lot of the ones you talk about are not famous even in Japan ^^;; )

04-10-2003, 05:43 PM
Yeah janne da arc is really good.

(sendai: Im really surprised too. It's crazy.I was talking to my friend from japan about pierrot, she said how do you know more than me? What are you?)

04-11-2003, 04:39 AM
Kyo is from Dir en grey..if you like really really rock music...listen to their songs.

X-JAPAn is like the MOTHER (or father) of all jrock bands..they are like the Metallica of japan. Their songs are actually good plus their costumes too (if you see their concerts)

Larc en ciel (my favorite!) is on the Pop-rock side..they can change from soothing sounds to a more rock side of music..and their members are KAWAII too! Hyde's voice is really really good..on live and on tape.

Fairy Fore is a new rock band..and its nice to listen to them (though they are more like pop-rock type of band). ^___^ And also, dont forget Psycho Le Cemu but they are more of visual kei..coz they sound sooo pop-rockish and not that hard rock.

Malize Mizer is good too (Gackt's previous band). For chilling out, listen to GLAY and Aucifer (the lead singer, Makoto, looks really really good). ;p

04-12-2003, 09:46 PM
Personally since I am (well new) a long term Jrock fan, and Malice Mizer being my first love :D variety is nice to have.

My personal reccomendations:

Hyde / L'Arc en Ciel
Dir en Grey
Malice Mizer
Gackt (of course!)
X Japan
(Edit: AND HIDE! HIDE HIDE HIDE dont ever forget Hide! ::ravenous fan:: X)

and also, theyre hard to find but they rule if you like dark techno-metal: Blam Honey)

Aside from most of those being old or mainstream, theyre quite good for the ones I can immediately think of. Then again -personally- not all JRock sounds neccessarily -good- so. :)

I have http://www.malicemizer.net you can surf too for images of different bands + their names. (anyone feel free to take a look. its far from completion BUT... it has a huge gallery)

04-13-2003, 02:08 PM
Malice Mizer/Gackt.. though the Malice Mizer videos kinda frighten me... Illuminati was just... o.O;;

As for J-Pop, Hikkiiiiiiiii! (Utada Hikaru) I'm sorry, I'm lame like that ~.~

04-14-2003, 03:45 AM
malize mizer came here in the philippines... without Gackt (bummer..I was looking forward to seeing him in person). THEY ROCK!! And they are scary in their costumes too..hahahahah! Go go go go visual kei!!! ^__^

04-14-2003, 01:43 PM
you know that klaha went solo right? He really sounds like a pop singer now but with some Malice Mizer influences. Its a big change.

Cyber Wolf
04-21-2003, 03:31 AM
Yeah, you can still hear the Malice Mizer in his songs. And he may have dropped the heavy makeup but I still say he still looks rather fetching without it. *growls* XD~~

Amano Jyaku
04-23-2003, 02:27 AM
Buck Tick. Thats all you need to know.

Ruri Hoshino
04-25-2003, 05:39 PM
oh! You could try Mana's new band he formed on his birthday ^___^ Moi Dix Mois(My ten Months in french ^.~). But Malice Mizer and X-japan is pretty good. Or you could try the new band Blood, they only have one cd last time I heard, but I think they'll do fine.

04-26-2003, 04:22 PM
woah..i posted this awhile back..i didn't think it was still going...

thanks to EVERYONE for posting!! lots help...*huggles* (\^-^/)

04-28-2003, 04:37 PM
: I like his new single! Your totally right it so MM yet with the j-pop twist!

Moi dix mois is good but Id listen to mana's (the founder) former band first, Malice Mizer

Dir en Grey (aww isnt kyo Kawaii? *get head ripped off by the short vocalist) is great if you like really heavy metal

and X-japan and hide with spread beaver are the classics and are REALLY good and you can also check out some of gackts darker singles such as Lu.Na and Nine Spiral ^_^

04-29-2003, 06:27 AM
kyo kyo kyo kyo kyo kyo!!!!! ----> KAWAIIII!!!!!!!!!!!

i love him so much... *sigh*

04-29-2003, 09:46 AM

The Seeker
T.M. Revolution
Michihiro Kuroda
La'cryma Christi
X Japan
Duel Jewel

04-29-2003, 06:45 PM

04-29-2003, 06:50 PM

05-02-2003, 02:08 AM
DancingVampire: ---> Me wanna see THAT video!! My god!! *bows down to Kyo* hahaha!! If he'll kill me...i'll willingly give him a knife.. ^__^

ambitiousmiyavi: I have a friend who's die hard miyavi fan like you. I remember one time I went to her house and she played miyavi's "Pop is dead" video for the nth time! >__<

Cyber Wolf: Yeah...KYO IS GOD!!

05-02-2003, 05:53 AM
riasa_hideto, cyber wolf: If you have AIM I can shorten the clip to that part and if your AIM has dircet connection I'll IM the video to you if you want and yes Kyo is god! wanders over to locker which looks like a jrock shrine/store due to the fact you cant even see the metal of the locker on the outside or the inside, lol

Cyber Wolf
05-02-2003, 06:59 AM
Yay!!! :D Thank you ^^ Warning though, I'm on 56k XP

Eh, I haven't even had time to cover my locker I j-rock pics. But I think I'll make it a shrine to Totchi or somethin :3 With the random Kyo pic stuffed in thar lol

05-02-2003, 01:30 PM
Definatly Utada Hikaru

05-03-2003, 01:18 AM
riasa_hideto - I totally understand with your friend who is a die hard miyavi fan. I also watched Pop is dead many many times. That song could not get out of my head and the PV is the cutest!

05-03-2003, 01:58 PM
Not my favorite "Pop Is Dead" but I enjoyed Miyavi looking cute ^^; I'm addicted to "Girls, Be Ambitious" though X_X;

05-04-2003, 06:27 PM
yes yes girls, be ambitious was the first PV is saw by Miyavi. The one section when he sings the da da da part. Omg...the best ^-^ I really love that song...thats where i got my handle name too^-^

05-04-2003, 08:47 PM
i really can't decide which i like better; j-rock or j-pop. i have favorites of both. ^^ i guess i'll just list the ones i like before i start babbling about how much i like each. XD

malice mizer (& gackt w/ malice mizer)
janne da arc
dir en grey

ayumi hamasaki (i adore ayu...)
morning musume (they're just so...genki! ^_^)
two-mix (they're more techno, but...meh. i still love them)
mayaa sakamoto

i have more, but those are my top recommendations. ^~

05-04-2003, 10:15 PM
my friend loves miyavi so much that she changes her hair color..just like miyavi's! She's afraid to do the green though. I admire miyavi coz he can carry his style so darn well..^__^

..though personally i like him more when he was still in due le quartz ^__^

I can not believe it...no one said SIAM SHADE!!!

Wait...did no one mention Luna Sea either!?! >_O

Some of my top fav bands/artists?

L'Arc~en~Ciel (as if that wasn't obvious enough...:P)
Siam Shade
Luna Sea
Malice Mizer
X Japan

It's so sad...the only one in that list that hasn't disbanded yet is Glay. T_T Yes, yes, L'Arc is getting back together, but I really think they're gonna disband very soon. They better pop out one more album before they do though. >_O

If I can't find anyone to tailor my furisode kimono, I think I'll do what I did last year again. I'll throw on all of my L'Arc attire and go as a L'Arc fan. XD Let's see...I have my Hyde shirt, my Hyde barbed wire necklaced, my Grand Cross bandana, my Limited Edition Light My Fire cross necklace, and my custom made Hyde plushie. ^^ I also have a Grand Cross raincoat, but that'd cover up everything else, and it would be too hot to wear. >_< I saw these cute Grand Cross sandals on Yahoo Japan Auctions, but I couldn't get them at the time. Haha. They'd complete my outfit too! But what I really want is that BBCats toaster!!!! *_* Mmmm...breakfast with L'Arc every morning! XD

Hehe. I even downloaded L'Arc skins for The Sims. >:P Guess who married Hyde? ^o^

Ugh...I sound like such a fangirl. I feel so dirty. ;_;

05-30-2003, 07:12 PM
a good J-Pop singer is Hikaru Utada (Utada Hikaru). Download some of her songs and pics and you will LOVE her! she also does the theme song Simple and Clean for Kingdom Hearts. good song to download first is Simple and CLean FULL Version, then Sakura Drops (although it's in japanese. www.animelyrics.com is a good place to find the lyrics to her songs and other things.

05-30-2003, 09:20 PM
I got some Utada.. She's a very good singer in both english and Japanese. ^.^

Right now.. I'm listening to Luna Sea like.. constantly. Every song i hear.. I like it..

06-09-2003, 11:05 PM
I heard of them, but haven't heard of their stuff. Aren't they really obscure?

ryuichi fangirl
06-09-2003, 11:19 PM
I believe they are quite obscure ...I only have 3 of their songs..one of which I really don't like too much...the vocalist kinda grates on my nerves a bit...but their song Dead Man's Child is good...

06-10-2003, 05:47 AM
The Mad Capsule Markets.... sorry if someone's already put that, I couldn't be bothered to read the whole thread.... anyway, their good if you like fast, bass heavy, industrial rock
