View Full Version : random acts of j-rockness

Um, so I didn't want to muck up lupineloli's nice sticky anymore, so I'm starting this thread for unofficial auxiluary j-rock events (at AX or elsewhere), for totally non-con-sponsored activities by the crazed cosplayers ourselves. Basically to think up amusements to do while in cosplay while promoting knowledge of j-rock. I mean, I'm getting to the point where I just mill around lobbies in cosplay, ignoring most of the rest of the con, so it'd be nice if someone felt like doing something other than wait around for photos.
Anyway, I got two ideas that I have mentioned previously (tho jokingly) + one very random silly bizarre one that I had a dream of last night. But I guess I'll wait to see if anyone else has actual 'good' ideas before I share. ~_~

When I went with my friend to Little tokyo, she dressed up as mana and played para para. It was a lot of fun, so she does it all the time. People already knew who she was so it was kind've cool. But you said that you want people to learn about the j-rock, so usually when I cosplay jrock style at a con I got out with my other cosplaying jrock friends and we go out for something to eat or just walk around. Of course people are gonna look at you and wonder. This one guy took pictures of us and asked me where I got my shoes. I mean if your already dressed up you might as well flaunt it. right?

Yeah, it's just that I notice people who already are into something tend to wander around in clumps and don't interact with other cosplayers too much. I mean, like I said before, I don't want to push j-rock on anyone, but I just thought it'd be nice to share it so people might find that they like it. So besides just playing the music or videos, I was trying to think of other things to do. Eh, I was just hoping somebody else had ideas, because mine are kinda silly. x_x*

Yeah i understand what your saying. I don't want to push people into jrock either, but i'll think of some stuff. Usually the silly ideas turn out to be good ones. you know.

Well, this sorta has to do with photos, but my friend and I did BoB for Halloween and took a lot of silly shots involving fresh fish and little kids (to bad the camera was broken ^^;; ). Either that or if you're a little more daring do something like... Trigger Happy TV, go to a bustop and talk about things with whoever you're with. (with people around to overhear of course)

Ex.: Mana: Geez, these heels are killing me!
Klaha: Well that's what you get for dressing in woman's clothing.
Mana: Shadup! Gackt, Gackt, Gackt! :P
Klaha: *shudders*
Mana: Wuss :p

Yeah, it's silly, but it could be fun. And I'm not saying, say it loud enough for everyone to hear, but just for them to overhear. ^^;;;

Yui: ambitious has a point; spill! XD

Yeah, alright...no one else wants to be weird before me, huh?

Okay, well the first thing came up as I was trying to generate interest in the AX events sticky, which was getting overlooked on the actual AX board, so we were just posting anything and kinda not exactly on topic ^_^*...and kept going off in tangents...anyway, Lilli showed up and I said something about needing 463 cupcakes since Friday, j-rock day, happens to be also July 4th this year. I was thinking it'd be reasonable to get about 39 people to bring a dozen, number them and then pass them out to people in the hallway - but then I thought that maybe wouldn't be safe/sanitary. So that plan needs some work to be doable. Yeah, so that's one idea, but it's day-dependant. It has to be at AX this year to make sense.

The other one involves actually getting 10 PlC cosplayers together (or at least 5 PlC and 5 'others') with a soccer ball and seeing what happens ^_- I kept saying that totally as just a joke, but in the back of my mind I was making my Lida doubly-sturdy to actually withstand a match. I say if FF can have beach volleyball, we can do a soccer game. I guess that could technically happen anywhere, but PlC cosplay's still semi-rare.

And the last one involves potatoes and nightmares I've had about them. Heheh....

Count me in for the soccer ball game, at least at Ota. since I won't be attending AX. ^_^o If I come up with any interesting ideas I'll definitely post them.

04-22-2003, 06:59 PM
Okay, for anyone who is really interested in the silly idea for soccer, what do you think would be a better day for it? Saturday afternoon or Friday before the j-rock panel?

04-22-2003, 08:06 PM
Soccccccccccerrrr! I'm so smart that I missed this thread until now. Oh, I wanna play, but I don't know if I'm going to Ota for sure yet. Probably... but who knows. (will be at AX though) That's a good idea Yui!

04-22-2003, 09:58 PM
I had a good idea...whee...must be some kinda mistake. >^_^<
Um, okay, well Lida be coming with me to AX, too, where everone can come laugh at my Lilli-dubbed "sneezing-while-painting" kanji and try to guess what I actually wrote.
AX's is gonna be a lot more open for me, so if there'll be more PlC peeps about there, we can do it then, too - whenever you guys want (except 2pm-til after j-rock panel Friday) - pick your time. Maybe we can challenge some MM cosplayers or something if we can't get 10 Psychos ^_-

04-22-2003, 11:17 PM
actually psycho vs. another jrock band sounds like a ton of fun. raise the stakes a little. =D

04-23-2003, 12:07 AM
mrowr. o_o; I can't even move properly in NORMAL clothes.. the idea of playing soccer in a COSTUME is just like... O_O; nooo.

I shall sit on the sidelines and squeal like proud parent. and it fits, damnit! Seek is the band-mommy!

04-23-2003, 12:13 AM
It's soccer-mom soshi-seek! That's awesome...all you need is like...a bumper sticker to make it official. And you can make us eat oranges.
Or you could be like the ref or something and we'll get you a whistle. ^o^

04-23-2003, 01:13 AM
The soccer idea is definitely not silly, I'd do that for sure. But I'm only 10% sure I can be at AX this year. :( That's not much of a chance. But I'll be at Otakon without a doubt.

04-23-2003, 12:50 PM
There'll be a few Gekka people at AX, for this I know - I'll be Gekka Kozi, and I'll be happy to participate in any randomness around!

04-23-2003, 09:10 PM
it probably wouldn't be that hard to get a mostly PlC team (unless there's a whole one... even better) vs. some other band. All I've really got going for me is my Toshiya. *imagines playing soccer in that and it being hot* *imagines passing out* >_<

04-23-2003, 10:13 PM
Okay, well sounds like there's probably enough interest to do it at both then...if people don't seem to die of heat exhaustion or sprain something or whatever at AX, we can try it at Otakon too. If anybody would like to investigate possible places to hold this at for either, it'd be appreciated. (I haven't been to AX in Anaheim before, and I can't think offhand of a place in Baltimore around the con center...unless we can arrange to place inside the con center...? There's technically room, but we'd have to get clearance, I'm sure.)

BTW, the new single PlC costumes are really bori...er, I mean *simple* - so if anyone wanted to participate in the game, but wanted kinda normalish clothes to do it in, check em out.

04-24-2003, 07:20 PM
hmm soccer+mana's platform mary janes=some intresting game

Yay! Im going to Ota so I should be able to do it there if its held

04-25-2003, 07:21 PM
I made a thread on the otakon forum asking for help finding a location for the game where security won't kick us out. O_o I figure if we set this up ahead of time, and not just -show- up and start, we might have a chance of doing it inside the con center - cuz there -is- a lot of wasted space in the con center, both in the outer hallways and actual rooms.
Uh, anyway...

Oh yeah, and if people still had other ideas in general (that weren't so active maybe?) go ahead with those too. ^_-

04-27-2003, 11:29 PM
Wow... those PlC outifts are...simple. haha. I still don't have time to make one, but I am shocked! (and I don't listen to PlC nearly enough to not feel silly cosplaying one of them...)

04-28-2003, 08:00 PM
Yeah, from the current photos, it looks like they're having another soccer game themselves, so they needed the mobility. So long as they go insane next time...they shouldn't make a habit of being even semi-normal. Heheh, but it's nice to see how good-looking they all are really. & Yura-sama has cute glasses >^_^<

But anyway, any j-rock cosplayers are welcome to join. Whatever you guys feel comfortable in.

05-06-2003, 05:32 PM
^^ this all looks very...fun/weird/interesting. I would love to participate. Specially as I love soccer and j-rock. Heehee, okay then. I may or may not be going to Otakon, but I am *definitely* can't go to AX, at least not on 'j-rock day' no matter how much I might like to, because of this thing I do every year with my family on July 4th. Grr. But I had this thought, that maybe we could get a j-rock soccer game con-tradition-thing started at cons nationwide! Even worldwide! Bwhahahaha! *ahem* yeah.

05-13-2003, 08:44 PM
Oh wow - I like your attitude! So not only has Friday become officially j-rock day at all cons by now, we can add this whole soccer aspect to it as well. It could be like a tournament or something and we can play battle music and everything. And then we get televized, and...
...I am really amazed this has caused such interest. I guess just knowing that the Psycho boys are the instigation behind this weird idea makes me most happy. I just really wanna support them in some meaningful, interactive way.

Anyway, this would be very cool and maybe even reasonable to do, but we're going to need a few people willing to look for game spaces and ask the various conventions for permission/clearance. (If anyone can put in a good word at any con or scout for reactions to the concept, it'll really help.) After I come back from ACen this weekend, I really will get cracking on that cosplay soccer website thingie I promised and make this all more official-like.

05-13-2003, 09:24 PM
Mmm, hai hai. I have a website space I'm working on right now if you need someplace to host it... even if you already have a place, I'd be totally into having a sister-page type thing.
