I haven't seen the movie yet and I, like many people here, are probably, dieing to see it. Is anyone or has anyone been interesting in starting a group to make a show in Atlanta this year? Persian, Spartan or otherwise?

I haven't seen it yet either but the photos of Queen Gorgo's dresses have been gorgeous, so I'm considering it! We'll see if I actually like her character in the film, haha.

It's decided! I'm heading to the gym!! LMAO and some fat to :)

Seriously, I will search for this 'Queen Gorgo' so I can get a better look. See anything of value here? http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809262865/photo/stills

Wow, thought I was the only this into the movie already.

As far as Queen Gorgo goes check the graphic novel for some good sketches or pause the trailer during her "trance scene". Otherwise we'll just have to wait for the production shots and stills to come out (only two weeks to go). Hopefully some sort of filming/production book will come out soon too.

If there's anyone seriously into this I'm all for helping with props and costuming as well as training to look like a Spartan so PM me with questions.

Much like the rest, I'm planning to catch the movie too.
As for costuming, well... as long as there aren't 300 guys marching in the parade wearing an adult diaper and a red bath towel, it should look pretty cool. LoL :drunk:

Hell, I might even join up after I check out the characters.

So, saw the film and it was great but I gotta say no to any 300 cosplay for me. The Queen's dresses were all just.......eh. I loved her hair but man her dresses sucked. But I'll still be at d*con cheering on the Spartans!

As many characters as you have cosplayed you have earned the right to be picky. I myself will be one of the few CRAZIES that attempt to become a Spartan, hopefully, before Dragon Con 2K7. Your cheers will be welcomed.

I actually really liked her dress that she wore to address the council. It's 'almost' historically accurate (heh) but still; I really like it! I know a friend of mine plans to make it; I might make it in a different color for SCA events but not for DC.

Well thankfully I've moved on to join in the battle bikini ranks, and I'm MUCH happier about that than I would have been trying to make myself like Gorgo's costumes, or attempt any of the really skimpy Persian girls outfits either. LOL.

I'm much happier getting to run around with the guys and have fun!

You should check the other 300 thread in Other Costumes forum. There are quite a few girls, myself included, who are making "battle bikini" basically the same uniform as the guys only with tops, obviously. So we're gonna be warriors right there with all the blokes at Dragon Con this year.

Oooo, an Immortal! Coolness! Heck, ever since Civ III, I've been a fan of the Immortals. I was even thinking of cosplaying one from the movie since they're less . . . . muscle-oriented than the Spartans.
But to save time, I decided I'll just be making a "parody" Spartan cosplay. I hope you other Spartans have a sense of humor, otherwise it'll be AWKWARD!

Dude, I still love "LMSAO". You need to make that into an icon or image meme or something.

But man, you Spartans are going to kick my butt. As of now, I only know of maybe three Immortals going to DC. And about fifty thousand Spartans. It's like the reverse of the movie, and it's going to be hilarious.

Well, you definitely know I have a sense of humor. >:B Hurrhee.

And now I'm excited about cosplaying with you even if your costume is a parody. (if anything, I'm more excited to see what you've come up with.) Buuut you should seriously cosplay an Immortal someday, because you'd kick ass at it. Doitdoitdoit.

(PS, Civ III for the win, I loved that game. The Immortals in that were awesome, even if Xerxes was a total ass.)

Sorry couldn't resist. ;) Great to see the Immortals are getting together too, both here and in the other thread; it'll make photo-ops so much more fun and I think there will be a few more of you than you think. I think our friendly "competition" for Supremacy of DC will make the wait more bearable. A hilarious photo op would be the spartans guarding an alley or some such mundane locale with a mass of immortals all swarming. Good luck to all of you! See ya at the 'con

I still haven't decided for certain if I want to go as a Spartanette, or just wear a Spartan lady inspired dress.

My biggest issue with being a female Spartan is flying a spear and shield with me, along with all the other costumes and props I'm bringing. It may prove too difficult.

If I wear a dress similar to one of Queen Gorgo's, maybe I can carry a bowl of apples to share with our Spartan warriors?

Someone ran this concept of an idea by me and I thought I would post it here. Spartan '300' as guards for the 'Dawn Contest'. Good looking buff guys guarding all the good looking half naked girls of the contest. For the record this idea was given to my by a female who participates in the 'Dawn Contest' just so you know.

I figured if we get all the armor we need and there are enough of us who fit the part I say we look into doing this. It would be an interesting twist on a Dragon Con staple. Your thoughts?

I know I wouldn't mind a guard or two, lol. :crylaugh: Mandy has already sworn to protect me from rabid fanboys, and I will have my own sword for defense purposes if anyone tries to get too close...but when your secret "naughty" Dragon Con costume consists of very little covering, extra defense never hurts!

I'm sure there will be other contestants looking for guards too, and we all know Spartans are the best!

Glad to hear more Spartans showing up to Dragon Con. This 'Guard Duty' for the Dawn Contest is just voluntary. Basically the Spartans that do this will march them from the Hyatt lobby to the main area of the contest. There might be some things to do once the contest gets started, but I don't see a need to keep you all around that long. We are coming to Dragon Con for some fun not to stand guard all day. However, this is just ideas being tossed out here so feel free to drop you opinion at will.

Due to other unforseen circumstances the presents of Spartans for 'Dawn Contest' Escorts will NOT be needed. Sorry to get everyones hopes up, but this event will not be happening this year. Instead we will have more time to find Immortals and eat protein.

Good Question. Where and when should we all be planning to suit up and who's going to be ready to suit up in "Class A" gear (shield, greaves , vambraces, helm, spear, sword/sheath, cloak and brooch)? Juist got my prototype shield done and I'm working hard on the rest.

Reamy had a count of who's going in the main thread but its probably a good time to start trying to set out times here if our group is to meet up/photoshoot /hang-out beyond the parade. Sooo.... DC veterans, when's the best time/location?

How are those sandals by the way? Are the comfortable?

I have the same ones (although Swords of Honor evidently raised the price since I got mine for only $35). They are very comfortable, the sole is soft rubber and has a nice gel insert in the midsole/arch area. One thing I've learned about cosplay is comfortable footwear is a must and these get high marks. They will need some modding (mostly adding lacing to the rear heel cup) but seem to be spot on from my artbook/movie still comparisons. I give 'em :bigtu: .

SWFreak and Kabane, 'Many Thanks' for your honest review. Once again more money to scrape together to get the things I so desire.

However, I do have progress to report. I took another Body Fat test yesterday and I am down to 15% BF. About 2 months ago it was at 18% so the diet and exercise is working. What is bad is my lean muscle have gone down about 2 lbs. I was talking with the Mrs. and she reminded me that I need to hit my weight program more and rely less on my Burnacise class which I am doing 2 times a week.

It's a full body and cardio workout class, but I feel we hit biceps alot which leaves my muscle burning. Sucks because the next day I can't really hit my bicep routine the next day because they need to rest. Long story short is that I just need to kick it with the leg routine I have and start killing that on Thursday before my Saturday Burnacise. I have been skipping this because we do a lot of squats in class.

The last thing any of us want to do is lose lean muscle mass. Right now it's at about 146# or so. Which is kind of funny since that is about how much I weighted back in High School. I want to be a 150+ lbs so I still have some tweeking of my program to do. 1) Hit low body weight routine more frequently 2) Change my ab workout.

Speaking of changing ones Ab routine. I was in B&H the other day and got to reading this book called 'The Ab Diet Book' (http://www.amazon.com/Abs-Diet-Six-Week-Flatten-Stomach/dp/B000E1KPV4/ref=pd_sim_b_img/102-7623181-8132144?ie=UTF8&qid=1186587721&sr=8-4). this is a VERY helpful is this book and I know it sounds trendy, but it is more than just another 'Ab' or 'diet' book. Basically it reinforced everything I have know and am praticing now, but it has some things I didn't know. If you at your local book store PLEASE stop and read it. The workouts and the explaination as to why they work is worth the time.

That's my $0.02 for today. Only 22 days to go until Dragon Con 2K7. w00t!

Thanks ArcaneKani! I think people want to start the con off with a BANG on Friday. I would suggest Friday and Sunday Night for all Spartans. Sunday Night is the big closing night because Monday people are leaving or in the process of getting out of town!

So for the mass group photo shoots go for Friday and Sunday night.

Question is how many people are going to be ready for the parade if we do it this year? Need to contact the Dragon Con staff about, ummm, NOW to let them know.

Great work Fightstar! I second Kani-san's sentiment that you're proof positive that this movie affected people in a truly life changing manner for the best. Its funny how something like this resonates and has a real power to help people improve. Great work again. Your wife is right too, weight training is really the key to getting and keeping the lean muscle mass so remember to hit that iron 3X a week and go for quality over quantity. The "Abs Diet" book is a good read too, got a copy myself at a local used bookstore for about $5 so I reccommend it as well, if nothing more than for meal planning and recipes.

Count me in for the parade in Class A regalia. I'll prolly be rocking my spartan Gear for all three days I'm there too, Fri, Sat and part of Sunday since that's my checkout day.

ATTENTION ALL DRAGONCON SPARTAN COSPLAYERS: Under the advice of my friends, I will be doing airbrush muscle enhancement at Dragoncon. The cost is 30.00 for a full body, and an additional 5.00 for Cuts & Bruises. I will be using the same alcohol based makeup we use at Universal for Halloween Horror Nights. If you would like to have this done please let me know ASAP so I can get an idea of how much makeup I am ordering. I will start airbrushing probably around 5-6 PM on Friday, and again Saturday Morning.

After much debate over whether or not I was cosplaying Queen Gorgo for D*C I sewed my cosplay for her last night and am in the process of styling my wig, so I will be cosplaying her.

SO do we have a time set for some gatherings? We should TOTALLY take out an army or two. The narutards seem like a decent target.

I don't know how you missed it. I've been watching it, not posting though for a little bit now. Any idea on how many (most likely matching) Gorgos we'll have.

To anyone that would like to be airbrushed for either the parade or spartan gathering I will be doing airbrush muscle enhancements, and battle effects. in the Hyatt at the following times:

Friday:
7:00 - ???

Saturday:
8:00 - 9:30
5:30 - ???

Since I do not know what room I will be in, feel free to call me when you arrive and I will gladly help you find your way to where I am applying the makeup. My number is (321) 274 7526

On a side note, I am also doing some zombies before the parade, so I am willing to "zombify" people too.

Make sure you come by and find us at Dragon Con and say 'Hi'. Always important for fans and geeks to get together and connect. :D

Now some info about the Parade! I know this is a lot of info, but I wanted to share this with everyone so you know what's what.

Parade Day At A Glance, Saturday, 9/1/2007

Timetable
(The parade goes on rain or shine!)

9:00 - 9:15 AM (or before): Parade vehicles arrive for
staging
9:00 - 9:30 AM: Participant line-up/parade
section staging
9:45 AM: Line-up/staging of both
marchers and vehicles is
final
10:00 AM: Step-off onto Peachtree
Street

Start: Woodruff Park (Peachtree St and Auburn Ave,
about 4.5 blocks south of the Hyatt Regency)

Unless otherwise directed, parade vehicles (cars,
trucks, floats) will be lined up on Auburn Avenue and
Park Place (fountain side of Woodruff Park). D*C
Parade Staff (we’ll be wearing shiny, gold parade
badges) will direct you into place.

Marchers will be staged on Park Place in front of the
Sun Trust Building and on the sidewalk running beside
the park, and in front of the fountain on Auburn
Avenue. Marchers and motorcycle/scooter riders,
should look for a sign with your parade section name
on it, or look for like costumes. That’s where you
should line-up.

Please follow the instructions and/or directions from
D*C Parade Staff, members of D*C Security, and the ATL
PD, only. This greatly down on confusion and
reshuffling.

Once we’re ready to go, your parade section will be
called “on deck” and then given the “move out command”
meaning you’ll be starting the march on Peachtree.
Marchers will be given signals by Leigh Bennett-Conner
(X Track Director) who welds a bull horn with flair.
Vehicles will be merged into the parade by the same
experienced Parade Staff that assisted you into
staging positions.

Our parade route, from Woodruff Park at Auburn Avenue,
follows Peachtree north back to the Hyatt Regency
(approximately 4.5 blocks), turns right onto Baker
Street (one block) and turns right again onto
Peachtree Center Avenue. The parade ends at the
Marriott front entrance on Peachtree Center Avenue.
(Map attached as PDF file)

Disband: The renovations at the Marriott necessitated
a few changes to our route, including where we end the
parade. Since the front entrance of the Marriott is a
normally busy area and the parade is larger than last
year, we ask that you move away from the area quickly,
following the instructions from Parade Staff, D*C
Security and/or the ATL PD stationed in that area.

If you are meeting friends immediately following the
parade, DO NOT plan to meet in the Marriott’s front
entrance/driveway.

The Little Coffee Shop of Horror is once again
providing a water station at disband. This year, we
should have energy drinks available as well from the
folks at “Freek.“ Please remember to thank them.
And, only take one beverage per person.

A Few IMPORTANT Reminders for Everyone

1. Use common sense and show courtesy for all involved
with the parade.
2. Show up on time and be patient during
staging/line-up.
3. Prepare yourself for the weather (bring along
water, don’t forget sunscreen).
4. No costume is no costume! Remember the parade is
held on city streets and decency laws will apply.
Watching the parade is open to the public, small
children and other impressionable beings will be along
the route. Additionally street/everyday clothing,
unless it's identifiable with a character, isn't
appropriate for the parade. Please choose your
costume wisely.
5. When tossing trinkets to the crowd, please use an
under hand toss or place them directly in the
recipient’s hands. No strike-out pitches and no
projectiles, please!
6. No flash pots, explosive devices, fireworks or
loaded devices of any kind. Absolutely not allowed,
period.
7. Non-working or prop weapons (part of your costume)
are OK. The Atlanta PD escorts the parade and may
make swift response to any action they deem
inappropriate or threatening. Think about how you
brandish you weapon. A reminder that any weapon
carried at D*C must be peace bonded and approved by
D*C Security, who will also be in hand at the parade.
8. If you have a question about whether or not
something will be allowed - ask beforehand!!
9. Have fun! Have fun! Have Fun!

Note: We reserve the right to remove any person(s) or
prop (including weapons) from the parade, at any time,
deemed offensive, potentially dangerous or otherwise
inappropriate for the event.

Looking forward to meeting you at our table AND seeing
you in the parade at Dragon*Con!

JP and the most excellent D*C Parade Staff

I will be in Atlanta, GA on Thursday in time to get us registered for the Parade. I will need to find you all and get your parade ribbons to you. I can do this Saturday morning or Friday afternoon. Friday night will be a 'MAD HOUSE', but I could find all who are dressed and going for the parade there so that might be a option.

More than likely since I will not be in Spartan Uniform I will be wearing some sort of Underarmor or Nike 'knock off' that Friday afternoon. Friday night I can plan on my Cobra Ninja Warrior coming out. Any other questions just let me know and I will do what I can.

Giant Alucard, it'll be great to see the god king of Persia all done up so keep on with your prop work, besides we have to have someone to tell us " Spartans are cruel, but I am Kind." That and there'll be many an hilarious photo op I'm sure. Now you need a few million barbarians, immortals and persians to command. :toothy:
