I really wanna go in a few years, before I'm 18. is that a possibility?:crest:

No. You cannot register until you are 18, and without registration you can't access the events. YaoiCon is most definitely an adult oriented con, and has little available that's appropriate for minors. :(

Michi pretty much nailed it on the head. Even the Dealers' Room at Y-con is completely 18+ content (Shock wands, anybody?). Arguably, so is the hotel lobby, even, at times (d'oh).

Yeah. Admittedly, you could always go and hang out and chat in the lobby. But every real con-related function including the artist alley and manga library are basically in a "badge zone" area that you won't be able to get into. It won't be very fun to attend before you turn 18.

Oi. Not that this applies to me, because I'll be 20 when Yaoi-Con rolls around this year, but did they do away with the parental consent thing? A few years ago, you could get a badge if you were under 18 and a parent/legal guardian accompanied you.

I have no idea. I have heard it was done once for someone days away from being 18. This does not mean it's a continuing policy.

HOGAWD, MINORS AT YAOI CON D:
When I was 16 I was all "SOW HAT IF I'M A MINOR, I'MA MATURE."
But, now that I'm 18, I think yeah, I could have handled it, but I would squeal at the smallest things. Back then things like Viewfinder shocked the pants off of me XD
And I mean...if my sister went at that age, I would SPAZZ. Like, have a stroke. I didn;t even want her reading the OTRFK novel XP

My friend is 16 and she says that she's allowed to go but her mother sopose to be at her at all times.

I don't see anything about a "minors are okay with an adult" policy on the site. :/

Your friend is mistaken. Yaoi-Con is strictly 18+. ID checks at badge pickup or registration not to mention at pre-registration.

Editing post to add some more info. This is straight off the registration FAQ located at http://www.yaoicon.com/registration.html

Q: I won't be 18 in time for the convention this year, but I really want to attend! What if I get my parents' permission to come to Yaoi-Con?
A: Yaoi-Con cannot waive the age requirement, even if a minor has parental permission or parental supervision.

I'd also like to add something to that actually. For all yaoi fans under the age of 18. Because of Yaoi-Con's new location, please note I am "NOT" a staffer or a representative of Yaoi-Con so please don't go e-mailing Yaoi-Con saying but one of your staffers said this routine, there is a "Curfew" in San Mateo and hanging out in the hotel lobby this year is not recommended because the hotel staff is aware of the convention itself and has the authority to contact the local police department to have any minors escorted off the premesis without a parent or legal gurdian present. I'm sorry to sound like a kill joy but that is the law. I'm sure there won't be any "minors are okay with an adult" policy this year because of the curfew.

Curfew Law for reference. Chapter 10.12: Minors - Curfew (http://www.cityofsanmateo.org/dept/codes/ch10-12.html)

I hope this'll answer some questions for anyone who's curious about Y-con's registration policies and underage minors present. =)

I think I need to clarify something on the minor with parent policy.

I will be referring to sections in the document from this link: http://www.yaoicon.com/content/view/9/136/

Although the California Penal Code listed on this page has a specific provision to allow a parent to accompany a minor into an 18+ event, specifically 313.2 (a)(1) and (b)(1)

Yaoi-Con remains restricted to 18+. So even if a parent gives approval and accompanies the minor. The convention has the right to and more than likely will refuse entry
