Hello! ^^ I was just wondering if anyone on the boards could offer their expertise on how to get hips. O.o; I have a blue cheongsam that fits perfectly on all the parts of the body except for the hips, and I was wondering how I could go about padding them without them looking fake or whatnot X.x

Off-the-top-of-the head idea: (never tried it, I have the opposite problem - hiding hips! :p)

1) get a women's "support girdle" (but not very tight).

2) Pick up four 1" wedge cloth-covered shoulder pads at your local fabric store. Sew two each together at the 1" end so you have 2 sets.

3) Try them on as hip-padding inside the girdle-thing. You may even be able to sew them in so you have "instant hips" you can put on.

4) Perhaps a similar approach would work to add a bit more butt if you need it for the dress.

5) For a more professional view, rent and watch the movie "Tootsie" with Dustin Hoffman - he goes through a whole padding sequence in the movie.

I've read that some transsexuals get silicone injected into their thighs. It's one of the surgical procedures they go thru to transition. I guess this seems a little too extreme for crossplay:D

Have you thought about a male corset? I have no clue how much they can "suck in" so to speak, but Kozi from Malice Mizer wears one here: http://www.angelfire.com/goth/kupo_kosplay/kyomu_kozi.htm and you can see it gives him a slightly female, hippy shape. Padding tends to look like, well, padding, so perhaps if you could use what you already have.

I'm not sure if that would actually work, but it's the first thing I thought of when I read your post.

No one I know who is TS has done it, and neither do they bother to pad their hips. (They often DO get breast implants, though.)

Well... I WOULD go with the corset thing... but the thing with corsets is that they don't give you hips.. they rather pull in your waist to make your hips more pronounced. ^_^;; Basically my hips are a 34 and the hip size on the dress is 42... heh.

42"? On a cheongsam? What are the rest of the dress measurements?

I've got a cheongsam that was custom made for me to wear at my brother-in-law's wedding years ago because I was too tall (almost 5'9) for the regular formal floor-length ones. Otherwise, an off-the-rack one might have fit - my hips are 36", and that's what I have to hide when I crossplay.

Instead of padding all the way out to 42", perhaps you could pad some and then take in the dress seam a bit at the hip area? Unless it's custom made, a cheongsam often won't fit exactly...

For crossplay, what you'd want is a woman's corset, not a mans. A properly constructed woman's corset pulls in the central waist but IS built to fit out over nice womanly hips (and often lower-abdominal belly. >.< ) The "hourglass" look.

Well.. the dress measurements are 40-34-42.. ^^; A bit extreme I think.

Hehe, is it possible to eat something and have it go straight to the hips? o.o Lol.

There is a dissadvantage to that obviously, like any form of plastic surgery the finished result may look fine NOW but over time a person's body shape will change with age so it might not look so good 10 years down the road. The most extreme example of this my mother once told me she met a 60 year old woman who had implants that made her breasts look more perky then a teenager. :eek: *scary* That's why I prefure a la natural.

back on topic. I've actually tried to make hips by experimenting with molding, casting, and sculpting stuff but gave up because it was getting ridiculously expensive and I was getting no where.

This is one of the most interesting crossplay threads I've come across... You've gone from padding to Dustin Hoffman to corsets to silicone to Krispy Kremes to perky 60-year-old breasts... hehe

I'm sorry, I had nothing real to contribute...
-_-;;;

ha ha! When they started mentioning Krispy Kreme donuts I knew things were going downhill. *passes krispy kreme donuts fresh from the oven to everyone* the only problem with that is for guys those donuts end up in the gut and not the hips:D

But anyways, those slightly more slim fitting outfits are tricky for guys... So far I've tried faking hips with light padding and pleated skirts...and thinking about going on to dresses and petticoats... A thought about the padding though. To prevent it from moving around (unnaturally) and possibly to smooth things out, might it be better to somehow attach the padding to the legs? Liiike... with lots of tape or something...
XD

For a woman without implants who is "small" in the chest area (and wears bras regularly), there is nothing unusual about remaining naturally "perky" even when she is older. Gravity works harder on bigger chests.

I knew a woman in her 60's like that too, and it WAS natural.

MALE corsets are very very different from FEMALE corsets. So if a guy wanted to buy one for crossplay, he'd have to buy one intended for a girl because that's the desired shape. And even then, corsets are meant to be shown off.. so putting them under clothes would be pretty obvious for most applications. You'll need some sort of shaper meant for under the clothes. They've been advertising one on TV lately for flattening and shaping for under formal dresses, that one looks decent, but I have nothing to back me up.

But, for hips.. there are things called padded shorts which I made the mistake of shelling out 40+ dollars for. As I was telling Menchi the other day, it's way cheaper to just get the 4 pads for 5$ and buy a pair of bike shorts to put them in. Here are the links!

Pads (4 for 5$) http://www.mrms.com/figure.html

There is a lot of other stuff on that page.. so, it's not meant for kids ^^;; So.. you've been warned =3 But anyway, the "padded hip and butt panty" shorts are on that page right above the set of 4 pads I talked about. You can see sort of see what I mean about it being a glorified pair of spandex shorts. The pads don't make THAT much difference btw, I thought mine would.. and when I got them, the difference was slight at best, so I would advise buying at least two sets of pads if you're a skinny person like myself.

There's always what a crossdresser told me in the fabric store one day... weird story there... you can make your own out of foam by buying the special heated foam cutter and a block or two of foam.

I need to take in the waist on my cheongsams to make them fit my shape better.. ^^;

ooh... finding female corsets that fit guys is a pain, though... all the ones I've tried on in Fredericks are too tight around the chest, and don't do anything at all for my waist. Guys also usually have longer torsoes, so that doesn't work, either. I wanna order one, and some company was advertising custom ones when they were at a con. I'm thinking about it... but not cheap!

Just browsing through old threads... adding what I can. So, where are the pics, Menchi?
